Iori never thought of herself to be prejudiced until now. She was completely disarmed and faced with her own preconceived judgment and she truly felt ashamed of herself. To make things worse, the person she who owed her apologies for that is no one other than Jun Kamikoi. And, to top it off, the person who will be smirking at her while saying "I told you so," Is the annoying and whimsical president who had currently entered her black list to remain there for the remainders of her days on this earth.
The truth is that Iori followed that annoying old man's nagging advice that came in the form of several emails, text messages, and enjoyed packages through her editor. She took a copy of one of Jun's books that the president had sent her and she read it. And to her utter surprise and annoyance, the book was a real page-turner...
His book was fun, engaging and his words flowed life the smoothest melody over paper transfixing her and diving with her into a magical word weaved skillfully and beautifully. In other words, his book was a work of beauty and a piece of art.
Iori had confidence in her writing skills. After all, she was making a living out of it. She was beyond the stage of comparing herself to other writers to prove her worth. but this is completely different. After reading Jun's book she had this exciting feeling that they might work out, that they could write this book together after all.
She and Jun essentially fought over nothing and everything, they were polar opposites and couldn't help but clash every tie they meet. It's like this was the only way they knew how to communicate or this was their dynamic of sorts.
But, now that she read his book, she saw him as a true writer for the first time. His books weren't silly nor were they a substitute for women's unattained feelings. They were beautiful stories that were weaved out of the imagination of a talented novelist who clearly loved his job and did it with passion.
As she sat at the Japanese tea house where her editor had instructed her to go, Iori started to wonder whether she had given her the wrong location. There was no need for the president to go so far for them to meet, usually, meetings like this could be held anywhere from a family restaurant to one of the com[any's conference rooms.
the president never did things halfway, and he was invested in this project more than usual, but, she still didn't feel comfortable with that for some reason.
A few minutes later, Jun came.
"You're finally here, I thought that I was mistaken about the meeting place," She said and Jun gave her a wry smile.
"Sorry to make you wait. I was surprised when my GPS led me here too. It seems like the president is really invested in this project," He responded coming up to sit in front of her.
"Well, when that person puts his mind onto something he always makes sure to see it through. And it's not always pleasant for those around him..."Jun chuckled as he sat in front of her, he turned toward the hostess who was waiting for them gave her a charming smile, and asked Iori.
" Did you order something?"
"No, I was waiting for you," She responded, and he nodded handing her the menu to choose.
Jun Ordered the most expensive snacks he could find on the menu, and Iori knew that he was doing it as payback to the president. Those two seemed to have a close relationship and both of them tended to become slightly childish whenever the other was involved. Not that she was better at handling the eccentric man, but Jun was probably worse than her.
"So why don't we talk about our collaboration?" Jun said snapping her out of her thoughts. Iori was determined to see this talk through, and Jun seems to be more willing to have a normal conversation for a change. Maybe there was a chance, and if there is one, she was going to seize it.
"Yes, before that, I have something to say," Iori said with a serious tone, "I... read your book for the first time yesterday," she confessed looking up at him with a wry smile.
Jun laughed at that then said what she hadn't expected him to say,
" Me too..." he said leaning forward, " And to be honest, I think that we can pull this off after all,"
"I think so too, I was completely doing the one thing no writer should do. I was judging your books by their cover," Iori said gestured toward Jun when she said the word cover,
"well, this cover doesn't really give anyone credit, I must admit." Jun said chuckling at her reference, " I was stereotyping your work too. so I think we were both in the wrong so let's leave it at that."
"True..."
After that, the two of them started talking about their upcoming work. The resident had determined the theme for their new book to be "Healing and Growth". Before they knew it, it was already dark outside, hours passed without them realizing and the room was a mess of papers filled with their Ideas.
"Perhaps it would do us some good to find a permanent workplace," Iori said as they started gathering their paperwork.
"Perhaps the president's suggestion about an apartment wasn't that wrong after all," Jun said teasingly.
"Ugh, I don't even want to think about what he was thinking!" Iori said
"Yeah, the man is definitely out of it if he thought that we would advertise the book for him like that,"
"Anyway, I just hope that he wouldn't do anything funny," Iori said with a deep sigh,
As they started walking out of the tea house he asked, "Did you drive here?"
"No, I took a taxi here," Iori responded
"Then let me give you a ride, I drove here..." He said
Iori wondered if she should refuse but she found no reason to do that so she accepted. He opened the car door for her and he froze when a flash of light beamed at them from afar.
"A car?" Iori said
"Seems so." Jun responded looking at the car pensively.
The think that neither of them said and that ended up being true later, was that the flashlight definitely didn't come from a car's headlight...
Iori sat down watching the rain drizzle outside through the coffee shop's front window. The place was quiet and the faint sound of music drifted over to her ears along with the occasional scent of roasted coffee beans creating an ambiance that put her mind at ease and stirred her desire to write. She slowly lifted her coffee mug to her lips and let the rich aroma coat her tongue and send a rush of energy over to her brain. This was really the perfect setup to write the scene she'd been thinking about since that morning... If only she brought her laptop with her. As she kept eying the street before her, she saw a person in a suit running through the drizzle, hopelessly trying to avoid getting drenched to no avail. She followed him with her eyes as he made his way to the cafe's door and swung it open making the bell at the top jingle announcing his entrance to the waiters and staff. The waiter hurried over to him with a towel and the young man gave him a smile
"*sigh*" "Twenty-three," Jun said not lifting his head from the papers he was reading. "Pardon?" Iori inquired "That was the twenty-third sigh you made since we started this meeting an hour ago. Do you hate working with me that much?" Jun said with a smile looking up at her and Iori fought the urge to say some witty comeback that would throw them into an eternal word spare that will never end unless one of their editors tried came along. Iori sighed again and then realizing what she did she looked up at him, "Twenty-four..." He said "Ugh, stop counting my sighs, will you? It's unnerving," "Well, it's better than suffering through them for another two hours without having any alternative to divert me from your clear disinterest in what we're doing..."Jun retorted "I am not disinterested," Iori said defensively "Oh? Could've fooled me..." "I really am not. I'm actually looking forward to starting thi
"Why did you say that you wanted me to be here for this meeting?"Iori's editor asked eying the menu that the waiter had left with them before leaving them alone in the rediculousely luxurious private room. The woman was looking at the menu as if it was going to grow legs and attack her. Which was no wonder, since one meal in this place would make irreparable damages to anyone's wallet. The only reason why Iori was here in the first place was that the president had been paying for all those luxuries."Don't worry, we're making Satoru-san pay for all of this because of the inconvenience he had been causing us," Iori said with a smirk and her editor gave her a weak smile putting her menu down."Honestly, only you two can get away with treating the president the way you do..." Kimiko Tachibana told her shaking her head hopelessly."Judging by the trouble he has been putting us through for the sake of his own whims I bet we deserve the special treatment from
Looking out the window into the view in front of him, Satoru Hiiragi smiled. He was in an extremely good mood today. His plan was going smoothly and everything was falling into place. Even though there was a slight detainment, it had been handled quite easily and now all he had to do was wait for the results. "Where is she? She should be here already," he told the young man sitting behind him "It seems like she hasn't been able to leave. There's still time so if she has to she can sneak out or we can use the emergency call trick..." Yusuke Kajima said eying his phone probably checking the text from his coworker. "She does need to hurry, otherwise this is going to be all for nothing..." Satoru said not really worried, he knew that Tachibana-san would find a way to slip out, he had made sure to I've her the right motivation to do so... "I will let her know, sir..." Kajima said typing away on his phone, then looking up just as Satoru was taking a s
"When did you two start dating?""Why were you keeping your relationship a secret?""Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers?"questions were tired as soon as the reporters were within earshot, Jun stood there wondering what would the best course faction be. They probably had to go back inside, but they were going to need help from the staff to storm them from entering the restaurant with them.there was a movement to his side and he looked at Iori to find her looking as pale as a white sheet of paper. she was slowly stepping back her eyes wide and fixed on the crows that were closing in on them. they were surrounding them now and Iori looked as if she was being chased by her wildest nightmare. She was terrified and somehow, Jun had the impression that the sight she was seeing through this crowd wasn't what he was seeing."Iori, hey, Iori..." He called out to her but she didn't answer.one of the reporters who reached th
they were there, they were all there surrounding her. she didn't have anywhere to run, there was nothing but the wall behind her and a mass of people surrounding her. No not people, a mass of monsters... Iori stood there transfixed as they spoke in front of her shoving some sticks at her. Something at the back of her mind she knew that she should know what those things are, she knew but she couldn't remember. Her fear was overtaking all her senses and even though all she could think about was running, her feet stood there rooted to the ground as a cold tremor overtook her body. She could hear a voice whispering close to her, was there someone who stood this close to her. Iori didn't know, she couldn't look. All she could see was the people running toward her, the monsters who were about to tear her apart again. A hand wrapped around her chest and she was gently pulled into a warm surface. The faint scent of sandalwood and the ocean waffled her nose and as the
"What if the world is taking them so long?!" Jun exclaimed slamming his hand down on the table. Iori sighed deeply finishing the game of solitaire on her phone. It had been three hours since they were trapped in the room and the restaurant had closed its doors for a good two hours since then. When they kept calling their editors they got excuse after another and when they tried to get one of the staff to give them a lift the manager had insisted that no one had a car. He even couldn't call a taxi for them because of the crowds that seem to be still waiting for them outside. It was eleven o'clock and the two of them were already tired. As they kept waiting they decided to get some work done, but none of them felt like writing with the obvious reality that even the book was one of the president's schemes. To be honest, Iori was very tempted to nullify the contract and say to hell with the consequences. Her phone rang and she peeked at the screen to find
"And we're back to where it all started..." Jun said as he stood there watching the door in front of him, "That would make a great first sentence in a book..." Iori commented standing beside him. They were both eying the office door as if they were waiting for it to magically open itself. None of them was ready to face what was inside. Or rather, WHO was inside. Neither of them had barely gotten any sleep. Jun had a hard time sleeping thanks to all the ups and downs he went through all day long. He was already a light sleeper and with the energy still pumping through him, it was harder than usual to shut down his mind long enough to fall asleep. As he kept twisting and turning in bed, he could hear Iori quietly moving around in her room next door. Although he knew that they were both probably weren't going to get any sleep, they could get some work done, but, something stopped him from knocking on her room's door. Iori had been standoffish and
