Chapter 6: Meeting His Grandmother

The Garden Estate is one of the most luxurious estates in Houston; it is very expensive, and not just anyone can live there, even if they have the money to afford a house in the estate.

The estate is one of the many estates built by Oliver’s company.

The estate is protected as a result of the different security checks one has to pass before getting to any mansion inside the estate.

As much as this estate was one of luxury and not just any human could live there, Grandma May hated it because of how difficult it was to get in.

It was not like it was her first time coming to her son’s estate, so she could not understand why she still has to go through a lot of security checks before she can get in.

Grandma May sighed in relief after they finally passed the last security check before heading to her son’s mansion.

"Why do I have to go through this all the time? My own grandson did not bother to inform his security that I’m his grandmother and do not need to go through such a process before I can get in.

"Calm down, grandma; you can speak to him about it later."

"Hmmmm" Grandma May looked at the beautiful view outside the window and said, "The only good thing about the estate is its beautiful scenery."

When the car drove into the mansion compound, the bodyguards rushed and opened the door when they saw it was their boss’s grandmother. They bowed their heads to show respect.

Rosa rushed out when she was informed that Grandma was here. "Welcome Grandma."

Grandma May looked around and did not see any young ladies; she then turned to the maid and asked, "Where is the woman my grandson married?"

"She is not yet back but had said she would be back by 5 p.m."

"Hmmm," she knows her grandson is not around, so she did not bother to ask about him. "I will wait for her; now lead the way." Since it was already 3 p.m., it is remaining just 2 hours before her return.

She could not just leave after coming all the way here to get to know the kind of woman his son had chosen to marry for a year and six months.

Two hours later, Nuella returned to the mansion with her belongings. She saw the car packed outside and wondered if Mr. Haywood was back.

She got inside and met Rosa in the hallway leading to the living room area.

"You are finally back, Miss Allen."

"Yes"

"I will help you take your things to your room; Mrs. Haywood is in the living room waiting for you."

"Huh? Mrs. Haywood," she was taking aback

"Yes, miss, Mr. Haywood’s grandmother is here to see you."

"Oh," she was confused about who the maid was talking about, but now that she mentioned it was his grandmother, she immediately understood, "Okay, I will see her right now."

When the maid left, she quietly walked into the living room and was met with a very beautiful old lady. One glance at her and one will know that she is a woman of nobility, from her outfit to her jewelry and her strong aura.

When Grandma May noticed the presence of someone in the living room, she turned her head and was met with a very beautiful young lady in ordinary clothing. The way she bowed in greeting with a genuine smile on her face and then slowly walked towards her with elegance, even when dressed in ordinary clothing, made Mrs. Haywood intrigued and she could not wait to get to know the young lady more.

"Hello Grandma, it’s nice to meet you."

Mrs. Haywood nodded. "Have your seat, dear." Grandma May watched as she sat down in the right manner, which impressed her.

"I suppose you are the one my son married."

"Yes, Grandma," she said with a smile on her face.

Grandma May smiled as well. "I haven’t yet told you to call me grandma, and you already did," she laughed cheerfully. "I think I already like you, and seeing you now, I must say that my grandson has a good eye."

Nuella only smiled and dared not stare Grandma in the eye unless she permitted her to do so.

Only a child who grew up in wealth and nobility acts and speaks in such good manners, but seeing such an ordinary girl from a poor background act in such a way makes mad grandma find her interesting.

"What’s your name, dear?" Even when she already knew the young lady’s name, she still wanted to hear it from her.

"Nuella Allen"

"Nuella Allen," Grandma repeated, "nice name."

"Thanks Grandma"

Grandma smiled and nodded. "So tell me about yourself, Nuella. What do you love to do? Grandma May was eager to know more about this child's manners.

Nuella was about to speak but was cut short by a deep voice that is very familiar.

"There is no need for that since the marriage will last for just a year and six months," Oliver told them in the living room.

Nuella's heart soured when she heard what he said but did not dare to show it on her face. She met eyes with him but quickly looked away.

Grandma May frowned when she heard what her son said: "Such a cold-hearted grandson." She hissed in annoyance, then looked at Nuella and smiled.

"Grandma, what will you like to eat? Let me quickly prepare it for you." Nuella stood up, ready to go to the kitchen.

Oliver frowned at her statement.

"Such a considerate child, but no need for that; I will leave now since I have prior engagements with some close friends." Grandma stood up and was ready to live.

"Okay, grandma, let me see you off." Nuella was about to escort grandma when she was blocked by him, making her heart skip. She stared at his dark eyes, and he stared at her blue eyes.

"Grandma, Rosa will see you off," he said while still staring at her.

While Grandma May left, she had a smile on her face. She did not regret coming over to see the young lady; instead, she was glad she did.

"Here," Oliver handed her the new contract, "sign both copies and give one copy to Rosa for her to return to me." He walked away after saying that and headed to his bedroom upstairs.

Nuella released the breath she didn’t know she had been holding; he had stared at her with complete hostility.

She went to her room and settled down to read the contract carefully. After reading it and seeing that all the things she stated were added to the contract, she immediately signed both copies and went back downstairs to hand the other copy to Rosa.

She stood at the entrance of the spacious and luxurious kitchen and saw Rosa assisting the chefs in preparing dinner.

"I wonder why Mr. Haywood came home early today; he always comes home late or doesn’t even come back. This is the first after many years," the chef said, but immediately kept his mouth shut when he noticed the person standing at the entrance.

The others turned and were shocked to see the new girl standing in the entrance and listening to them speak about their boss.

Seeing how afraid they were, she walked fully into the kitchen and smiled, saying, "Continue whatever you are doing, and trust that I won’t say a word." Nuella was assured, and they were at ease.

She had read one of the rule books of the Haywood family, and it included that staff will be dismissed when they are seen or heard gossiping about any member of the family, especially while on duty.

"Is there anything you want, Miss Allen?" Rosa asked.

Staring at her hand and seeing that she was slicing vegetables, Nuella shakes her head and says, "Since you are occupied, I will just hand this over to Mr. Haywood instead."

Rosa looked at what she was holding and nodded. "Thank you, miss."

"No problem." She was about to turn and leave when she remembered that she didn’t know where he would be in this big house. "Do you know where I can find Mr. Haywood in the house?"

"He would be in his study by this time."

Rosa described where his study is, and she left the kitchen to look for it. She got to the study, which she recognized since she had been inside during the selection. That day, she was so nervous about whether he was going to pick her up and was surprised when he did.

She knocked on the door, but there was no response. She knocked a second time, but there was still no response, and she was about to knock again when she heard his cold voice making her turn.

"What are you doing here?" He interrogated her as he walked toward her.
