Chapter 6: The Duchess of the Side Building, memories of a past

<Ugh… my head hurts like a bitch, which opened the window on me? Did I forget it open yesterday after work? Did I end up playing too late again?> 

I barely could open my eyes… I stood up from my to close the window and go back to sleep when I suddenly met face to face with a girl in maids clothes...

That moment, the lap I received from reality was harsher than a slap from a whale swinging its caudal fin… for your own knowledge… that’s capable of killing a human in one swing…

<You have waked up my lady, should I prepare for your breakfast first?>

Ah… right, I became the Harold of the abyss after dying… and got my memories back yesterday.

Satiana showed a sorrowful look on her face which made the aid shocked for a moment before she bowed and left the room and upon closing the door, you could hear from the outside of the room the young lady voice trembling as she cried.

But the truth is… it was all an act, a façade and a trick to fool the maid and the duke, after all Satiana’s face had a huge grin on it.

Heh! That was a piece of cake, easier than taking a candy from a baby in a cradle, well this act is something that would work only on the long term.

Anyway… today’s schedule is full! I have a lot of things to do but all are centered and turn around the main topic, this world.

Yep! This side building of the main manor was built for the late duchess, my late mother.

The late duchess liked reading a lot, she was a fan of Literature and research, and so to please her, Cassius built this annex with a library inside where he collected all kind of books from all over the world and offered it to his wife whom he cherished a lot as a pregnancy gift worried that she would go outside and get hurt.

Yep… we are talking about the same Cassius, that same old grumpy duke from yesterday. It’s sad that his love story ended with a tragedy…

Anyway…there is no time for that! Since that maid is gone, let’s have a tour inside this building and find that library!

I walked in the hallway, marched up some stairs, turned and walked, and then I finally reached it!

I opened a big wooden door, the creaking sound of the rusty joints accompanied by the smell of fungus and dust!

<Oh god… did they leave it like this for the past century or what? The books must have been poorly preserved… >

The library was at the side of the building, it has two doors, one on the first floor and the other on the second, that’s the one I got from.

The size of it is admirable, and the numbers of books on the shelves are even more astonishing…

There is even a corner to drink tea and eat while reading and a desk to work on!

Above the chimney in front of the sitting corner… a big painting covered by a dusty white sheet… this place…

The game had a flash back scene right here… a scene that Duke Evanson had, when he drunk liquor before setting up his mind to chase the crown… it was quite the melodramatic scene… half the scene was memories of the sweet past… the other half was the dispute over keeping the child or not…

Suddenly, my eyes caught sight of something flickering around the chimney… without realizing it my Evil Eyes were glimmering… and it seems like there potential is far greater than what was in the description.

Because when I touched that flickering mass of energy… my mana automatically rushed towards my eyes and a flash of memories submerged my consciousness…

The scene was that of the library… but it was more lively, the bright sunlight, the chirping sound of the birds… everything was so peaceful.

I turned my head and there I saw a fairylike woman… Sky blue hair the color of the clear summer sky, an ice blue dress suitable for a woman in her early pregnancy, sitting there on the chair a book in her hand, a gentle smile showed up the moment a man with silver hair approached… a child joined them and she hugged him…

The man touched her belly gently and the kid laid his head trying hearing the baby inside…

The scene was so peaceful and… it is sad that peace didn’t continue for long…

The change of scene was drastic… the woman was sitting on the couch leaving a deep sigh out…her complexion was bad… those eye bags and the sigh are something you can see and hear from a mile away!

Heavy footsteps approached and the door opened loudly, the silver haired man rushed to the woman and stood in front of her… then they had a loud discussion with the man screaming while the woman being calm and composed

<I heard what the physician said… and I also heard your reply>

<Are you against it?>

<Why didn’t you tell me all along?! Why did you make such a decision alone without my consent!>

<Because I knew you would be against it…>

<Then why! Why are you doing this! You know your health is deteriorating because of that thing!>

<That thing is my baby! And I will not anyone harm her! I am sorry… I love but I just can’t abandon her>

<You… you really are as stubborn as always… and you chose her over me… over us!>

<Yes… after all I am her mother; I should give her the best chance in life and so should you, right? Cassius>

The flash back stopped there and a sharp pain in my eyes and my head made me stumble and almost trip down on the floor…

It seems like I have over exerted myself with this new ability… I just caught fragments of a past that have actually happened here in this old room…

The memories of the mana in this room… that carried the feelings and the scene of the Duke family as well as the long forgotten sweet past and the painful memories…
