Brutal looking men were turning into even more vicious looking wolves everywhere you looked. Nora was already gone, swallowed up and protected by her new pack. Cassie was determined to get to her sisters. They came into this world during a war, and she refused to lose them during another one.

About 10 feet to her left, she saw a small amber colored wolf leaping around and ripping out the throats of everyone she could reach. Clearly Evie was ready for a fight. Taking her cue, Cassie transformed as well, joining the fray. She couldn’t see anyone that she recognized except for Evie. Not her dad or his beta. None of the comforting and familiar faces from Swiftcrest, just angry wolves, desperate for power and out for blood.

Cassie leapt over the mass of gnashing teeth and claws to join her sister, her paws landing on the hard earth, keeping an eye out for Nora, sniffing hopefully at the air around her for her sister’s scent. It wasn’t there, but there was something faint…apples. She didn’t really have time to place this odd scent lingering in the air - why apples? Maybe from one of the desserts that were now strewn all over the ground, but this was different. She shook her head to clear her befuddled mind, and re-focused. She had to help Evie and she had to find Nora. She leapt in the air, jumping off the backs of more fighting strangers, hoping for a better view, but her heart sank. There was blood everywhere, so many bodies already littered the ground, hadn’t they only been fighting for five minutes? How could there be so many wounded, so many dead already. The stench of blood and anger blocked out any thoughts of apples, when she heard a deathly growl behind her.

Terrified, she turned around to see her father’s massive wolf, fawn-colored with piercing blue eyes, as two wolves ripped him apart. At first there was just a thin line of blood along his neck, and she could pretend it was okay, but that was soon negated by the rush that followed. Alpha Brahm’s eyes went blank, and his head fell back. He was gone. Their father was gone.

Cassie’s wail pierced the air around her, and the fighting paused, if only for a moment, and she raced to her father’s side with Evelyn hot on her heels. She had to see it for herself, that they’re ultimate protector had fallen. All of the time that they should’ve still had was gone. Who would lead the pack? Maybe the beta would step up, neither she or Evelyn was prepared to take over, and with Nora being claimed by Roman, she would become the new Luna of Brokenmane. Would she fight for her birth home? Would Roman use this opportunity to seize even more power and take Sableridge for himself? Cassie shuddered at the thought of her people living under such a tyrant. The momentary stoppage in the fight didn’t last long, as she saw Evie get slammed to the side, and start thrashing out at her attackers. Cassie tried to go to her aid, but she was immediately pulled backwards by the scruff of her neck. She twisted around trying to lash out at whoever was trying to keep her from her sister, but she couldn’t see their wolf. All she knew was that they had grabbed her by the neck and that she was being dragged off, towards the edge of the tents, away from the remains of the ill-fated festival. She tried to fight them off, but kept getting slammed into the ground. Whoever this was, they clearly wanted her for something, but they weren’t afraid to knock her around for the time being.

No one paid her or the mystery wolf any attention, no one seemed to notice that another one of the fallen Alpha’s daughters was being dragged off to what end, no one knows. Where were the rest of her pack? Sure, she didn’t expect assholes like Randolph and Damian to come to her aid, but the rest of Sableridge was so close knit, a true family, where the fuck were they? Her internal rage was quickly snuffed out as she caught a glimpse of Evelyn, still in the thick of it, fighting as she continued to be yanked away. Cassie let out a yelp, trying to get to her sister, to fight, and avenge their father together, to get to Nora, to figure out what the hell was going on, when she saw Evelyn tossed across the desecrated tent like a ragdoll. Cassie’s wolf howled with despair, and then she was slammed into the earth once more, and everything went dark
