Chapter 3

Author: Skytree
My body felt like a disassembled doll—bones twisted and spread apart in a way that defied nature.

"A female Omega, approximately 23 years old. The attacker seemed to harbor deep hatred toward her. There were signs of brutal physical abuse before she was blown apart.

"Most importantly… the victim was two months pregnant."

At his words, the atmosphere in the room turned heavy and solemn.

"Abuse… blown up… two lives lost…" Each word cut deep into the hearts of those in the room.

I was stunned, staring in disbelief at my dissected abdomen. I… was pregnant?

The baby was still so small. I hadn't even felt its presence yet, and it had already been forced to leave this world. Tears blurred my vision, streaming down like a broken dam.

Aiden sighed after hearing the forensics report.

"That's truly tragic. Time is tight. Let's try to solve this case quickly. At least it'll bring some justice to the mother and child. I've wrapped up my other tasks, so I can focus on this one first."

I looked at Aiden and let out a bitter laugh. If he knew the ones who died were me and his own child, would he still be so calm?

After leaving the patrol station, Aiden's face looked off. He leaned by the doorway, chatting idly with Benson, who tried to advise him.

"Aiden, ups and downs are normal between mates. If Lina's angry, you could just coax her with a few kind words and make it up to her."

Aiden sneered. "Coax her? She doesn't know her place and keeps pushing the limits. First, she calls me during a patrol, then tries to manipulate me with lies. What's next? Faking her own death?"

He had no idea I was really dead. When he found out the truth, would he regret those words?

It didn't matter anymore. All I wanted now was to leave this place and be gone from his world.

Seeing that he couldn't convince him, Benson let out a sigh. The investigation started with missing persons. After a few days buried in casework, Aiden only managed to identify a few female Omegas who fit the profile.

That was when his phone rang. It was Kate.

"Aiden, when will you be done? I went to your room to look for you today, but you weren't there."

Aiden, exhausted from working late nights, still managed to force a smile. "I'm working on a case. I'll come to see you as soon as I finish, okay?"

Kate's voice was soft and sweet. It was obvious she was trying to act coquettish.

"I wanted to go to the forest for some fresh air, but I don't dare go without you. You always used to come with me…"

Instead of getting annoyed at her for disturbing him during work, Aiden spoke gently. "I promise, once I finish this mess, I'll ask Vincent for a few days off and take you out for some fun, okay?"

Kate asked playfully, "Alright. But I'm curious—what kind of case is keeping you away from me?"

"A female Omega was kidnapped by a rogue and killed using a homemade wolfsbane bomb. We're still identifying the victim. Early leads suggest she had a grudge with the rogue."

He chuckled and continued in a warm tone, "Now, now, you get scared easily, so you better not listen to the details, or you'll be too scared to sleep."

I sneered as I watched the scene unfold, stung by the irony. He had time to worry if Kate would be afraid, yet he never once wondered where I had gone.

The way Aiden treated Kate and me had always been polar opposites. After hanging up, he returned to reviewing the files, comparing them to cases of missing persons.

The moon hung high in the night sky by the time he finished. There were no matches at all. The investigation had hit a wall.

"Send out the victim's description. See if any other packs have someone missing who hasn't been reported yet," Aiden instructed as his eyes fixed intently on my corpse.

His subordinate nodded and quickly contacted the liaison officers between packs. In under ten minutes, the case details had spread throughout Elarin.

A while later, Aiden's phone suddenly rang. My soul was weakened and drifting beside Aiden, instantly became alert the moment I heard the voice on the line.

It was my father. As he spoke, his voice was filled with panic and weariness.

"Aiden… Lina's been missing for days now. The description in the report released by the patrol unit… It's an exact match.

"She would never just disappear like this. My daughter… something must've happened to her!"

At this moment, only death could truly sever the pain I felt. I drifted aimlessly for an unknown length of time until I finally saw Aiden arrive after receiving the news of the explosion. He came with a patrol group, directing them to take photos, record evidence, and secure the scene. One of the patrol officers said, "We found the remnants of some explosives and traces of wolfsbane at the scene. It looks like someone made a bomb with wolfsbane, but we haven't been able to identify the victim."Aiden's brows furrowed as his eyes flicked toward my twisted corpse. My heart gave a faint, aching tug. I hoped so badly that he'd recognize me. If Aiden realized that the pile of mangled flesh was me, would he feel even a shred of guilt?I sta
