Lance

The smell of freshly steeped jasmine tea invaded my nostrils as I stood firmly in front of the cash register, handing the tray to the old wrinkled lady who just ordered. I tried my best to smile as radiant as possible even though underneath the cloak of happiness, I was feeling the entire opposite. I woke up this day feeling rather sad and I don’t even know the reason why.

My day job as a barista required having to put on a constant bright smile to encourage customers and bring such happiness to their day. I guess that’s too much for me for today. I used to take pleasure on smiling at random strangers when I first worked here a few years ago but over time, it became tiring and almost monotonous. It’s obviously fake and even with my co-workers doing the same exact thing as me, I knew they also feel like shit sometimes.

Putting on a smile is one thing but having to put that curve on your face for hours while still feeling a different type of way is another thing.

"Here's your jasmine tea, ma'am. Freshly steeped, good for your health." Pushing myself to smile radiantly, I tried my best to speak in the most courteous way as I could towards the elderly who took the tray with a wide smile hanging on her wrinkled face.

"Aww thank you so much, my dear.” The old lady murmured and took a long hard look at me. “You are such a handsome young man! Tell me, do you have a girlfriend?" The lady asked carefully sticking her eyes out from the thick lenses of her glasses.

The thought of my tragic love life had swept over me and the feeling was just pitiful that it almost made me sick on the inside.

"Uhm… I’m still very much single, hehehe." I replied faking an awkward and uncomfortable chuckle.

"Oooh, that’s so unfortunate for such a handsome man.” The old lady continued and although it’s not in her pure intentions to sound pitiful, it really came off like that. “I'm pretty sure there's a whole bunch of girls out there who wants to have a piece of what's down under there." The old woman added as she pointed her finger on my lower trunk following it up with a laughter.

The woman looked like she's already on her late 60's or possibly early 70's and she seemed like she grew up in a Christian neighborhood, but to hear her say that kind of innuendo made me cringe in the most uncomfortable yet funny way. I just laughed awkwardly in response as the lady continued to talk. "If I wasn't this old and crinkly, I would be down for that."

"Uhm. What?!" I spat and quickly looked around to see my co-workers hiding their own laughter. I couldn't even think of something respectful in response to this horny old lady.

"I'm just kidding, my dear. I see you are turning red but that’s fine. I hope you find someone as soon as possible." The elderly woman spat and didn’t even bother to wait for a response before scampering away.

"That was weird." I muttered under my breath as I watched the elderly carry the tray going to the table where another old lady was waiting for her.

I’ve been working here at Fidelitea for five years now and I’ve encountered many different types of customers. Most are just regular customers, regular tea lovers and just some random people who happen to be craving for some tea. Some customers are harshly rude, some are just plainly condescending, some are lonely, some of them doesn’t even know how to order and some are just a combination of all. There are also the Karens who thinks they own us. However, I will say this was the first time that I’ve encountered that old lady and her horny humor. If I wasn’t feeling down on myself today, I would’ve probably cracked and had a good banter with her but this was an off day for me.

The ambience inside Fidelitea café felt leisurely and relaxing just like a café should be. The pastel shades of green and purple were a good combination to make room feel even bigger.

Moments later, an extravagantly good-looking drag queen showed up in the doorway. She sophisticatedly edged her way towards the counter, her black casual maxi dress hugged her unbelievably curvaceous body. Well, it’s not actually unbelievable because I know those are just paddings keeping her shape at such a curvaceous silhouette. She looked remarkably tall even with her high stilettos clicking and clacking as she ushered herself towards me.

“You’re quite early today, huh?” I asked the familiar face of a regular customer and a friend of fine.

"Good afternoon, Lance. How are doing my love?" Like a beauty queen descending from a dais, she gently put her right hand up to a waving gesture and waved at me.

"Daniel!" I waved back purposely calling her out with her real name.

Daniel’s smile immediately became a frown which meant she doesn’t like what she heard from me. Daniel's make-up was always woman-like and strikingly on point perfectly matching his bronze skin, his chiseled cheekbones, and his eyes that are naturally pitch black. Her make-up is a masterpiece produced by his very own indecipherable talent. Even within this early hour of daylight still lurking, Daniel still looked breathtakingly amazing.

"Uhmmm, excuse my gorgeous face? I told you my name’s Dianna. D-I-A-N-N-A. Dianna Luxxxe and that’s with a triple x just like your favorite X-rated site.” Daniel or should I say Dianna, went on with her loud mouth. Somehow she was attracting the attention of the people having their coffee and tea. “How many times do I have to tell you to quit calling me Daniel when I'm this fabulous, alright?" Dianna followed up expressing his desire to be called Dianna when he’s in full drag regalia. He’s wearing the face of an angel but his voice was startlingly masculine even when he tries to tone it down. However, it was a breath of relief that the smile on his face was consciously modest, as though he sought to attract other hot men, and forcefully preempt their heart.

"Okay, fine. DIANNA, what can I do for you, miss thing?" I asked, accentuating her name Dianna just as articulate as she had mentioned it earlier. I spoke almost exhausted but I was certain that I was talking within my comfort zone. I’ve been friends with this guy even before she became a drag queen.

"I want to order the same shit. You already know that. I don’t have the time to be testing other stuff. No sugar and with extra pearls, please!" Dianna said playing with his long-ass fake nails. He began digging to his animal print hand bag while feeling the positive vibe that I was serving him.

"Coming right up. Still drinking pink milktea eh?" I quickly tapped the code on the keyboard and Dianna's order appeared on the computer screen hanging on the wall behind me.

"Of course, girl. I love drinking that bomb-ass pink milktea because it keeps on making me gayer and gayer, you know.” Dianna replied proudly flicking her expensive wig that’s made out of human hair.

“Oh, that is what making you gay?” I jested back.

“Exactly. You should try it sometimes.” Dianna replied.

“You know what?” I took a huge sigh, almost acting, before eventually giving my reply. “Maybe I should try it too.”

“Didn’t you say you were bisexual?” Raising her eyebrows, Dianna asked but she made her voice almost inaudible just to make sure I’m the only person who heard her query.

“Yeah,” I nodded.

“Oh biiiiitch! You should definitely try the pink milktea then and you’ll be sucking more cocks than me outside the parking lot in the next two weeks. Okuurrrrtt!!” Dianna exclaimed, popped her tongue and made this sound that she always does. It always reminded me of some rapper who loved to say whatever that was but I just couldn’t remember who. “Anyway. All jokes aside, who’s that new barista?” Dianna subsequently asked pointing at the buff barista behind me.

“That guy?” I pointed at the same guy as if Dianna hadn’t pointed him out already.

“Ahuh. That buff guy over there!”

“That’s Mike, our new barista.” I replied and Dianna’s eyes seemed to twinkle under those thick eyelashes.

“Oooooooh, Mike. Hmmmm. He be looking like a snack!” She was low-key squirming but then I had to cut her off.

“He’s straight.” I whispered and I thought Dianna would be madly disappointed but she gave me a smirk instead.

“That’s what everybody says.” She replied mimicking the way I whispered.

Dianna’s statement somehow made perfect sense. I instantly recalled Valentine Grande, a person I knew from high school and he used to say he’s straight. For the most part he was straight but that’s until he met Dominic Warren and everything just went into a curveball. I don’t know what those two are doing now but I know things didn’t end up well between them. Dominic just smashed Valentine’s heart into smithereens at our high school prom.

Mike rang the bell which meant Dianna’s order was ready.

"Pink Milktea, no sugar with lots of pearl!!" The buff barista voiced out and when I turned my back to grab the milktea, he winked pontifically at Dianna. I quickly turned my attention to Dianna and she just winked back at him.

“I told ya,” Dianna sucked a laugh as he handed his payment to me. “Keep the change, my love.”

“Wtf just happened?” I asked somehow confused.

"Okay, Good bye Mr. Terrible at relationship. See you later at the club." Dianna babbled out and then pranced her way out of the café.

I’m not claustrophobic at all so it’s not a problem being packed in a steel box along with everybody who works at the mall. However, the smell of a long tiring day was very much evident the moment you enter the elevator and I had to endure this kind of shit every time I time out of my day job.As the elevator slides down towards the ground, I felt the titillating buzz of my phone from the pocket of my tight jeans. With so much difficulty, I tried extricating it with my elbow pressing unpleasantly unto some unspecified flabby portion of a suited old paunchy man right beside me. Having been successful at pulling my phone out, I swiped the unlock button to read a message. The m

LanceDianna’s performance was just as sickening as what we’ve all been expecting from her. We don’t get to see a lot of his performance but every time we do, he’s giving it his all. He performed a total of five songs and probably earned a lot of cash than the next drag queen’s following the line-up. We saw a lot of people really cheering and screaming to her lip-sync performance and they kept on throwing cash at him.I met Daniel, Timothy and Bradey during my freshmen year in college and honestly they were the first group of friends that I’ve met. We just instantly clicked and that was the point where I regret not making a lot of friends back in high school. I was so focused on being the golden boy and being the perfect student that I greatly missed the real thrill that high school life has to offer.I remember those early college days when Daniel was still very much hidden in the

My mom’s always asking and checking on us every chance she gets.“Good. Everything’s doing great.” I replied which was certainly the case. Everything’s doing great at school and there’s absolutely nothing to hide. Well, except for the stuff that I’ve been doing, the partying and all of that shit.“Are you sure about that?” My mom uttered expressing her uncertainty.“Maaaa, you know I have been doing good at school. You’ve seen proof time and time again.” I replied slightly annoyed that she was unsure of me when she clearly knows that I haven’t sucked at school. She had see

JaylerFor the rest of the period, I couldn't focus on anything that Mrs. Wanson was saying. Everything that’s coming out of her mouth sounded gibberish like she just came somewhere from planet Mars and decided to do teaching. My mind was helplessly conquered by the thought of being expelled. I know the letter doesn’t literally say that this was my last day at school but the thought of me being potentially expelled out of this school was killing me from the inside out.I have seen this scenario playing out in my head and honestly, I was pretty much certain that it won’t happen at all. But I didn’t realize it was actually going to happen even having the smallest chances of actually happening. I don’t really have to know the reason for the letter of expulsion coming in because I’m a hundred percent that it was all because of the photos that were posted online. That’s got to be it. I can’t think of anything else other than that.I’m very much aware that a lot of people saw the photos and

JaylerI stared blankly at the vintage looking crucifix hanging idly at the door of Sister Salvador’s office. The crucifix appeared as if it’s been hanging there for over a century or even more than that. It’s definitely looking not that dusty, perhaps it’s been receiving far better care than most of the other crucifix hanging at every classroom.I wondered how many head nuns have been here before the time of Sister Salvador. Was she the first and only cold-hearted nun to ever become the head of this Catholic school? My heart began to race the moment I raised my hand to knock on the door. It became apparent to me that I’m not ready to face this moment quite yet. Still, I don’t have any other choice but to face this rather than delay it.I paused for a moment and closed my eyes. I tried to search for a bit of courage and I may have found an iota of it. For once, I was hoping that the head of this school will cut me some slack and hopefully doesn’t end up pushing the expulsion. I took a

JaylerThe day ended horribly, and I’m pretty sure my face was a moving visual of pure devastation, with the sad and frustrated aura overpowering me. I was trying my best to shake the anxiety but no matter how I distract myself, there are other thoughts that are quick to take over and I always end up circling back to square one. When I went to meet up with Jasper and Kenneth at the usual spot where we always wait for each other and hang out before going home, I noticed the pitiful look in their faces.“You guys, you need to stop looking at me like that.” I expressed my utter disapproval of them looking as if I just experienced that worst shit that could ever happen to me. To be perfectly honest, this was the worst experience, however, I might have to end that sentence with the word ‘yet’ because I’m pretty sure this isn’t the worst that could happen to me.“We just feel bad for you, man.” Jasper replied.“I know, but it is what it is.” I mumbled as I took a seat on the slab of cement

LanceI went home last night feeling a bit relieved about this lingering thought and feeling that somehow something heavy has been lifted from my heart. I may have shed some tears, I don’t quite recall what happened but the bottom line of things was I felt a rush of relief. I know it’s just a temporary thing but I wouldn’t be that one greedy person to ask for more. Having that conversation with Daniel was just the break and kind of a pep talk that I needed just to get through this week.I was highly expecting to have a really horrible hangover after having a blast with my friends and I was exactly right. I woke up on the left side of the bed, almost at the very edge and on the verge of falling over. My head was banging and the dehydration was unbearable that I had to crawl my way to the kitchen to get something to drink.By the time I got to the fridge, I grabbed the whole pitcher of ice cold water that I just stored when I got home drunk. I was really wasted but I still thought of pu

It’s still my day off at the café and I still have plenty of time to just slack off and be the lazy person that I want to be. I feel like I have no energy and that I just want to lay in bed all afternoon before going to my singing gigs. I just stared blankly at the strips of light that’s been trying to bring its brightness into this darker room that I am currently in.At first I was just lying motionless; my eyes were fully transfixed at the cheap chandelier that hung lazily on the ceiling and then back to the blinds. There’s really nothing going on inside my head for a while until a memory suddenly popped up out of nowhere. The tangy memories of my old life back when I still in high school just flashed before my eyes and it was like glass shards stabbing me in the chest. I didn’t wa

Clearly, even a nine year old kid could tell, they seem to resonate sheen light of minority within them though, in the most teenager sense of thinking, they dressed themselves plausibly in accordance and tried to be as oblivious as possible. They were successful about it, no one noticed and even if someone actually noticed they wouldn't give a damn anyway. They were just having fun and having fun means breaking rules, or at least that's how teenagers believe it to be."Oh lord I’ve got to admit I missed this damn place” Kenneth whistled.“Are you fucking kidding me Kenneth?” Jasper blurted in response while giving him a disbelieving glare.“Well, yeah I was here yesterday and the day before t

The long and tiring day finally reeled to an end, Richard arrived at his unit at exactly eleven pm with the thought of Jayler actually staying in, and as usual like yesterday and the day before that, there was no sign of Jayler to be found. He was not fine with it, he doesn't understand why or how did something like this be happening to him but he felt like just being with him soothes allthe sores of a tiring day, but he has to be fine with it, and of course realizing the mere fact that his shift ends at 10 pm, Jayler probably had gone home, he has some parents and a sister toworry for his safety.
