I gaze at the beautiful snowflakes falling from the night sky while hugging myself tightly with the blanket for some warmth. I was standing on the balcony to get some fresh air. The whole house has quieted down and I presume all went to sleep by now since it’s around midnight. Sleep is long forgotten for me and Logan since there are a lot of things to talk about between us now. Logan is currently taking a shower and that's when I stepped out of the room. I’m expecting a serious talk to take place once he’s done with his shower and this is a way I found to calm myself down and prepare for everything.

I heard the opening sound of the sliding doors and knew that Logan had come in. I remained in the same position and soon felt the familiar warmth of him behind me. His two strong arms wrapped around my blanket-covered body and rested his chin on top of my head.

“How long have you been standing here?” He asked, rubbing my sides even though I was well covered.

“Since you went for the shower,

Is there any legal punishment given by the Jury for poking someone’s eye out with a sharp-pointed nail or for cutting off someone’s private parts? If it’s there then it will probably be under misdemeanor, right? Huffing loudly with a scowl on my face, I tiredly scan the set of my clothes hanging inside Logan’s closet. The sound of a door closing alerted my ears and my eyes brightened up a little when I realized Logan entered the washroom to take a shower. Quickly dropping the towel I had in my hand onto the floor, I rushed out of the closet and quickly plunged under the blanket and welcomed the sleep once again with a happy smile on my face. The room is still dark, the sun not up yet. It’s normal for Logan to wake up at this unholy hour of the day, at 5 am, and even before that. I usually don’t mind missing his warmth beside me but I do mind when I’m forced to wake up too. Logan did say he will be training me for self-defense and to fight, but I should’ve expected this training to

“What kind of ending is that?” Grecia whined disappointedly, sitting next to me. I chuckled at her cute pout.“I know right. Why couldn’t they end it without him dying?” Daniella complained a scowl etched on her lips as well. I shrugged my shoulders because I didn’t know the answer to that either. “Or they could have just shown from the beginning itself that he was just her imagination,” Grecia spoke out her suggestion.“Her hallucinations of him are what made her survive and go forward amidst the difficulties. Like that gave her the need to escape.” I explained.“But still, it’s so sad. I regret watching this now. My whole mood is deflated.” Grecia said and Daniella agreed with nodding. I slowly opened my eyes and turned to see the time. The digital alarm's brilliant dial read 3:33 a.m. As soon as my senses began to revive, I let out a groan. I don't want to be confronted with reality. It's heinous and perilous. Please, please, please! This is a realm of torment and suffering. I just want to travel to another world of fantasy, which I know I can only do when sleeping. SMACK! The sound of a huge crash from downstairs startled me and made me jump. Steps could be heard echoing up the stairs to my chamber. With my heart racing, I searched the area for a safe place to hide. Closet! Even though there wasn't much room in the closet, it was preferable to being out in the open. As I was almost entirely inside the closet, someone pounded up the stairs. I was yanked out of the closet by a hand wrapped around my ankle. A masked visage confronted me when I was forced to turn around. His cat-green eyes made me shudder despite the fact that I couldn't see his distinct features. I

(2 months later) The 'Western ExecuTrain University' is a three-story horseshoe-shaped structure that encloses a large courtyard. In front, there are two medium-sized trees on either side of a sidewalk that leads up to the building's entrance. This university is one of the most prestigious in New York, and admission was not easy. But, thanks to Mathew, Scarlet's father, I was able to enroll here. A few students were milling about outside the building, with laughter and chatter filling the air. “Are you ready?” Scarlet inquired, bouncing on her heels beside me in delight. With a smile on my lips, I looked at my best friend. “Are you ready, sweetheart?” Daddy inquired. I was hiding behind daddy's leg, overwhelmed by a large number of students my age. Some were crying, unable to leave their parents' side, while others appeared unconcerned. Scarlet's father was attempting to cheer up the crying Scarlet. To say I was nervo

As I stand in the middle of the Cielo club, the red and green lights blind my eyes. The knee-length dress that is hugging my body and that I put on after much deliberation appears to be nothing compared to the revealing dresses that the other girls are wearing tonight here. This is a relief to me because I was hoping that my attire (chosen against my wishes by my so-called best friend) wouldn't draw the attention of the male audience because, to be honest, I'm not looking forward to kicking someone's balls because they couldn't keep their hands to themselves. I'm not a fan of fancy clubs and partying. I've never attended one. I wasn't aware of many clubs in Worcester, and to be honest, I wasn't interested in that type of social activity. Furthermore, I've heard and seen enough news about all the girls who are drugged and used in these types of activities to keep me completely away from it. Scarlet reassured me that it only happens to 20% of the girls and that in

The wind whipped against my face as I ran into the cold. I shivered, but not once did I slow down. I don’t know where I was running with my belongings, but it was somewhere that is new to me. After walking for an hour, my legs started to ache so I sat on a bench on a sidewalk, bringing my knees up into my chest. Scarlet's face paled as soon as she saw me leaving and begged me to stay. But I didn't listen and walked out of the apartment with a stone face. Pride is something I inherited from my father. And my pride wouldn't let me stay any longer, knowing that my only friend had trust issues with me. As soon as I stepped out of her apartment, I was overcome with feelings of helplessness and fear, but as I previously stated, my pride drove me to walk in the streets with my belongings at this hour of the night. Scarlet is so enamored with her boyfriend that she believes everyone else is wrong. She's a very vulnerable girl, and everyone uses this to the

  • A Perfect Distraction   5. Do I have an option?

Today's surroundings appear to be quite peaceful and warm, so instead of taking the bus or traveling with Scarlet to university, I decided to walk. I appreciated having this time to prepare for my presentation. Within minutes, the weather changed, and the blue cloud turned dark grey, and raindrops began to fall. "Great," I grumbled to myself as I gazed up at the grey cloudy sky. When I didn't have to walk around in it, I enjoyed the rain. I drew my hoodie over my head and began running. "If only I had brought an umbrella, I would have enjoyed this," I grumbled as I rounded the corner. I looked up at the shops that lined the streets and the people who were either seeking shelter or simply enjoying the rain. My clothes were adhering to my body like a second skin, which irritated me. I dashed to a small bus stop just a few feet away. I stood beneath the awning and placed the bag beside me before squeezing the water from my hair. I

"Hello," Scarlet said, nervously fidgeting in front of my table. I was eating my vegetable sandwich at a round wooden table under a large maple tree. "Hey," I said quietly. I didn't want to show any emotion in response to her presence, so I kept my face expressionless. “May I sit here?” she inquired cautiously. Before returning to my sandwich, I nodded. She took the bench across from mine. “How are you doing?” “Had seen better days,” I said casually, and she nodded, guilty-looking. “Are you still upset with me?” she asked softly, and I sighed deeply. “I'm not angry, Scar; I'm just disappointed.” I leaned forward and clicked my tongue. "Do you honestly believe I'll do that to you? That I'll cheat on you, and with that jerk?” “I know you won't,” she said, shaking her head. "I'm not sure what hit me that day. Maybe it was the alcohol,” she exhaled deeply, shaking her head, “I know that's not a good reason, but please accept my apo

I woke up with a grunt when I heard my phone blaring the alarm sound. I poke my head out of my blanket and reach towards my phone with my right hand without opening my eyes. Even though the sunlight wasn’t directly hitting my eyes, I could feel the whole room lit with it. As soon as I got my phone I opened my eyes and stopped the alarm at once. The time read 10:00 in the morning and I didn’t have to look at the other side of the bed to know that Logan had already left. Of course, he will have some important meetings at the unholy hours of 6 or 7 in the morning. I released a heavy sigh before getting up from my bed and deciding to go get ready for my day.I look myself in the mirror and find the frown that has been sitting on my face for the past couple of days. I wash my face, hoping the frown will disappear in the process and then continue with my morning routine. I got out of my twenty minutes long shower and then moisturized my whole body before I changed into some warm and comfort

Logan's POV: Being the CEO of a powerful company and once being a part of illegal businesses, I have heard different stories of how people take revenge on others. Some even go to an extent by harming innocent lives to satisfy their hunger for revenge. Lia's case is similar to this. Her whole family was a victim and she suffered the most and is still suffering. I need to bring an end to this whole drama. An end to my girl's misery. They even had the audacity to play against my family. Play against me.My hands stuffed in my pockets, I tapped my feet impatiently waiting for this damn elevator to reach the basement of my office which is a parking lot as well. Finally, the elevator door pinged open and I nodded my head at the security guard before walking ahead. After several turns, I stopped in front of the grey metal door. Two of my guards were standing next to the door as well. One of them opened the door for me and I nod my head in gratitude before walking down the dark hall, my foot

"Tell you?" He chuckled darkly, sending a shiver down my spine."You tell me what's going on, Karolia Kingston,?" My heartbeat slowly started to accelerate when I heard him call me by my full name. This is not good. "What do you mean?" He laughed humorlessly"Oh Lia," he chuckled darkly, running his hand through his hair "Stop with this innocent act."I stood up from the bed and crossed my arms over my chest. "No, you stop beating around the bush," I said, getting angry as well."Is there something you want to tell me?" He asked, stepping closer to me."Uhm...N-No," I gulped slowly as I answered."You stuttered" I racked my brain trying to think of some excuse."That's because your proximity is affecting me." I lied, happy with my excuse. I pushed him away, trying to put some space between us."Why is it so hot here?" I said fanning myself with my hand and looking around anywhere but him. I was getting uncomfortable under his hard gaze."Don't change the topic, Karolia. I want to kno

Third POV: “What would you like to drink?” Olivier asked Karolia, trying to put her at ease. They were seated in a restaurant opposite Radio City Music Hall and the place is packed with people. To anyone else, she looked fine as if she’s comfortable in Olivier’s presence. But he knew well. Behind her tough mask, there is fear. Fear of what this man is capable of doing. He’s still seeing daylight even after killing who knows how many lives, innocent or not. “I didn't come here to have a drink and chat with you Oliver, and you know that,” she said with her voice low. Olivier smirked. He likes the fact that he’s able to instill fear in people’s minds. That he can become people’s nightmare. But only one person isn’t afraid of him. Logan Watson. It’s the other way around. With one swift punch, Logan can knock out even a hefty man. Oliver has to admit, Karolia is one lucky girl that she met Logan out of thousands of people living in New York. "Then, what brings you here, Kingston?” Oli

I watched the New York traffic through the window wall as I waited for Scarlet in the newly opened café. Soft soothing music was playing in the background giving an extra ambiance to this beautiful café with a glass roof and greenery surrounding the place. Lost in the beauty, I didn’t notice Scarlet entering the café until she plopped down on the opposite seat of my table. “Hey wassup!” She greeted, looking cheery as ever. “Hey” I greeted her. We leaned forward and hugged each other which was a bit hard due to the table separating us. "You look ravishing girl" I complimented. Her long hair was curled and left open and a slight natural blush was coating her cheeks. She was glowing. Scarlet gave a cute smile before taking my hands in hers. "I've something to tell you…more like give you," she said. I nod my head encouraging her to continue. “But I don’t know if this is the right time as Grecia is in the hospital.” she bit her lip. It’s been three days since we came back to New Yor

I stare at the cigarette as it becomes smaller and smaller and I haven't even taken a puff from it.Mom hates when I smoke, which I rarely do and creates a big scene about it. Today I couldn't bring myself to smoke and I have no idea why I lit this cigarette up. I snap out of my train of thoughts as I heard footsteps coming closer. I stub the cigarette in the removable ashtray that was kept on top of the steel garbage can. Olivier walks up to me and gives me a consoling pat on the back.
