I've been with Shawn Turner for a decade. He doesn't give me the wedding he promised me. I'm about to propose to him after preparing for a year when I overhear him talking about me. "Rowena's like an out-of-season garment—there's nothing exciting about her. It'd be a waste to throw her out, but I also feel washed out with her." His friends tease him and warn him to be careful. He merely laughs carelessly and confidently. "Nothing will happen. Rowena can't live without me—she's liked me since we were kids, after all." He smugly pulls the young woman I sponsored close. They act intimately with each other. I look down at the diamond ring I've prepared for my proposal. Then, I go on a blind date and get into a flash marriage with someone else. Shawn's eyes are bloodshot when we next run into each other—he sees my pregnant belly. "Who gave you the nerve to cheat on me, Rowena?"

Chapter 1

I stood at the entrance of the dimly lit VIP room, my phone in hand. My eyes locked on Shawn Turner as he gently traced the girl's jawline with his fingertip, like someone playing with a kitten. The girl responded with a flirtatious giggle, acting completely docile. They were quite the pair—one was my childhood sweetheart who had been discussing marriage with me, and the other was a struggling student I had financially supported through school. Inside the room, several of Shawn's close friends were lounging around. Noticing Shawn's relaxed demeanor, they teased him, "Man, Shawn, you really know how to live it up. You've got that gorgeous Rowena waiting at home, and here you are with another beauty." "Shawn, won't Rowena flip out if she finds out about this?" one of them asked.Shawn remained completely unfazed, merely clicking his tongue. "Rowena? Yeah, she might be a bit of a hassle, but she'll just throw a little tantrum. That's all." His best friend, Zachary Moore...

Chapter 2
Blair's expression instantly froze. Meanwhile, Shawn frowned and snapped, "Rowena!" His tone carried a warning—a reprimand—as he added, "Can't you speak nicely?"I nodded. "I can." Shawn let out a scoff, exchanging a glance with the others. They all had the same smug, knowing look. They were used to seeing me lower my standards for Shawn, always bending over backward for him. In their eyes, I was nothing more than a pathetic, dependent shadow following him everywhere. Shawn's expression softened slightly as he asked, "Why are you here?""To give you a gift," I replied. Shawn's face showed hints of impatience as he said, "Leave it and go." His confidence stemmed from the fact that for the past ten years, I had been giving him little presents every few days, and no matter how coldly he treated me, I never got angry—I just kept coming back with more gifts, supposedly due to my "deep love" for him.Without hesitation, I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face. Chapter 3
When I told my best friend, Tara Sweeney, about what happened, she could not hide her smirk. She exclaimed, "I've been waiting for this! You could've been a queen, but instead, you chose to be Shawn's doormat—for what?"I grimaced at her words, but she was not wrong. I had given up a comfortable life to be his faithful puppy, and besides our childhood connection, the main reason I had stuck around was that both our parents approved of the match.Tara patted my shoulder sympathetically and said, "Move on, girl! Let's leave the trash in the past. We can be fabulous single ladies together." While she was great at comforting others, when it came to herself, she would rather dive into chaos headfirst than pep-talk her way out. I did not plan on joining her single-life escapade, though. I replied, "I'll pass. I've already set up a blind date for tomorrow.""Wait. When did this happen?" Tara asked, shocked.I waved my new phone at her and replied, "Just now." The first thing I did a

I sat in the car, holding our freshly printed marriage certificates. I could not believe that yesterday, I was still nursing a broken heart, and today, I was married. The driver glanced in the rearview mirror and asked, "Mr. Powell, home or somewhere else?"I felt dizzy and wanted to go home to process everything. However, Nathaniel spoke up beside me in his calm voice, "Let's go to Eden Residence.""What for?" I turned to look at Nathaniel."To buy our home," he replied simply."Oh," I said. Then, reality hit me—I was married. The scenery flying past the window reminded me of my confused 25 years rushing by as I headed toward a new life. Suddenly, Nathaniel broke the silence and asked, "Are you done taking pictures?"I was confused and blurted out, "Of what?" He reminded me, "The marriage certificates. Aren't you going to post about it on social media? Send the photos to me once you're done.""Oh, okay," I replied.I took a photo of the certificates together and posted it

Chapter 5
The night of our wedding seemed like a race to make a baby. By the time I finally surrendered in exhaustion, dawn was breaking. In my drowsy state, I wondered if Nathaniel was as eager for a child as I was, given his enthusiasm. When I finally woke up, my phone was flooded with hundreds of unread messages. Some were from Tara, while others were from my friends. Unsurprisingly, most were from my parents."What's wrong?" Nathaniel walked out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped low around his hips.Water dripped from his hair onto his shoulders and trailed down his defined abs, disappearing somewhere under the towel as if heading to a secret destination. Just like that, images from the night before flashed through my mind—bits and pieces of blurry memories—and my face instantly turned bright red. "What are you thinking about? You're blushing," he remarked, walking over to feel my forehead. I quickly shook my head and replied, "Nothing. Just wondering how to explain this to my par

Chapter 6
Shawn gave Blair a mocking smile and said, "I'm not running a charity here."Blair's face flushed with embarrassment as tears welled up in her eyes. "That's not what I meant. I'll work hard to pay you back. I just..."Zachary leaned in, overhearing their conversation. "Is Rowena still angry?" He was surprised since my anger usually lasted only a few days at most. He clearly thought I was being unreasonable.Zachary turned to Shawn and added, "Why punish Blair just because she's mad at you? That's like pushing her into a corner?"Seeing Zachary defend her, Blair lowered her head as tears rolled down her cheeks. "It's all my fault. I should've explained things to Rowena.""It's not your fault," Zachary replied, unable to resist comforting a pretty girl, especially one as delicate and pitiable as Blair. He continued, "It's just Rowena being petty. Honestly, her constant tantrums are exhausting. Even I get annoyed."He said to Shawn, "Seriously, man, you shouldn't let Rowena off

Chapter 7
When Tara forwarded me Shawn's social media post, I felt nothing. I used to see some redeeming qualities in Shawn, which was why I had stayed with him for so many years. However, those qualities seemed to have vanished completely after our separation. I could not even remember why I had wanted to spend the rest of my life with such an irresponsible man. While lost in these thoughts, a hand reached out and took my phone.I looked up to see Nathaniel studying the post on my screen. After a moment, he met my gaze with a grin and asked, "Missing your ex?"I quickly shook my head. Over the past month, I learned that the more casual his smile appeared, the more dangerous the gleam in his dark eyes became. Before I could escape, Nathaniel grabbed me, threw me over his shoulder like I weighed nothing, and headed for the bedroom. Later, as he stroked my hair, he asked, "Got any plans coming up?" "Plans?" I repeated, thinking for a moment. "I promised Tara I'd go on a trip with her."N

Chapter 8
The news of my pregnancy hit me like a bolt of lightning. As I placed my hand on my stomach, I found it hard to believe that such a flat belly was already nurturing a tiny life. Nonetheless, it made perfect sense since we had been trying for a baby since our marriage a month ago.Tara was so excited that she had already come up with 20 different names for my unborn child in the past two hours alone. That night, Nathaniel knocked on my door, bringing with him the winter chill. As soon as I opened it, he pulled me into a tight embrace. He held me so firmly as if he wanted to meld me into his very being. After the embrace, Nathaniel looked at me with a grim expression. "Didn't you promise not to go skiing? Don't you know how dangerous outdoor skiing can be? Look what happened now—this could have ended badly."I peeked up at him from his embrace, meeting his angry gaze. Feeling guilty, I assured him, "The baby is fine." "I care about you, not just the baby. Don't you feel any gu

Chapter 9
Nathaniel said, "That day, you stood in front of me and bravely defended me. That's when I fell for you."I was dumbfounded. I did defend him that day, as the Iversons were from a prestigious family. Besides, I was not afraid of those rich kids and their arrogant attitudes, so I stood up to them.Back then, I was simply defending "family" as Shawn's girlfriend. Then again, no one would have expected Nathaniel to have feelings for me since that moment. I snuck a glance at him. After all these years, I had never noticed. Every time we crossed paths, he was always cold and distant, buried in company files. "How did you know I was using a dating app?" I asked.Nathaniel replied matter-of-factly, "I'm connected with you on all your social platforms, including your dating apps."I was speechless, thinking that was kind of scary. Nonetheless, after learning about his feelings for me, my perspective shifted slightly.…After the fall, the doctor said my pregnancy was unstable. Hence

Chapter 10
After sending that message, I blocked Blair. I did not hate her, and while her character might have been questionable, Shawn bore much of the responsibility.Ironically, their relationship had led me to Nathaniel. Now, all I wanted was to have our baby and build our love story after marriage. When Nathaniel came home that evening, I caught him eating the leftover cake I had saved. I asked, "Is it good?""Not bad," Nathaniel replied.I nodded in agreement. "I thought so, too." Nathaniel made a mental note and casually asked, "Where did you buy it?""Dr. Aicker made it," I explained. Dr. Aicker was the handsome and witty doctor Nathaniel had hired at a premium to monitor my pregnancy. He happened to enjoy baking, and Tara had been trying to catch his attention lately."It's terrible," Nathaniel suddenly declared, tossing the cake aside with a complete change in attitude. I could only stare at him in disbelief....The next day, Nathaniel and I visited my parents. They alre
