Lady Loretta was dismissing the maids to clear the used plates and empty bottles and to tidy up the living room after all the guests had left her mansion. She noticed a lady wincing in pain and slowly descending the stairs.
"Melody," Lady Loretta said, looking shocked upon seeing how disheveled she appeared, as if she had been beaten.
"What happened to you?" Lady Loretta inquired in disbelief, while all the maids in the living room paused to look at Melody, gasping at the horror of the once-arrogant lady's current appearance.
"Milady, it was one of the maids—the one you assigned to show me to the top floor. She did this to me," Melody managed to say, her cheeks visibly swollen.
"You mean Miranda did this to you? I don't believe it. Miranda is innocent and cannot hurt a fly. Ever since she has been working here, she hasn't gotten into a fight with any of the maids that I am aware of. Are you sure you're referring to Miranda and not another maid?"
While the older woman questioned Melody after all the guests had left the mansion, Derrick walked back into the living room and looked stunned to see that a guest was still present.
"She did this, ma'am. I cannot lie to you. Miranda lied about me to Master Derrick, and after he left us, she pounced on me and did this. She is evil, ma'am," Melody said, beginning to sob upon seeing Derrick look at her.
"What's happening here, Mom?" Derrick asked as he strolled up to meet his mother.
"Mom, you know it's already late. You should get some rest," Derrick said, not glancing at Melody, who had expected him to summon the maid.
After losing her job, Melody expected that Miranda would also lose her position as a maid in the exquisite villa. Melody knew she didn't stand a chance of getting closer to Derrick again. He was mostly busy in the office and attending business-class meetings. Similarly, she didn't have an excuse to see him, as Alexa was there as his secretary, and many other top female staff members longed to be with Derrick.
"Mom," Derrick said, looking at his aged mother, whose hair was filled with gray. He frowned as she replied, "Derrick, I will return to my room. But where is Miranda if Melody accuses her of beating her?"
"Do not worry yourself, Mother. I will have the guards investigate what happened. Melody, you may leave now," Derrick dismissed, not caring to summon Miranda.
He walked with his mother up the stairs, assisting her in returning to her room on the top floor. It took the older lady hours to climb the flight of stairs, and Derrick considered relocating her room to one on the ground floor.
Arriving at Lady Loretta's room door, Derrick paused and gently opened it. The maids knew it was best to avoid him, especially when he was with his mother.
"Mom, you should get enough rest. I don't want anything to go wrong with you," Derrick said to her in a hushed tone after helping her to bed.
Lady Loretta and Derrick were both dark-complexioned. She smiled at her son's care and replied, "I am fine, but you know what will make me happy and allow me to rest well is if you settle down. Your father worked so hard to acquire all this wealth for you. I am already over seventy years old, and you don't expect me to remain youthful. You should consider marrying. It’s not until you turn thirty that you should do so, my son."
Holding his mother's warm left hand as she lay on the bed, he heard her say, "My wish for you is that you find a good woman who will love you very much, pamper you like her baby, take good care of you while I am away, and watch over you both from heaven."
"Mom," Derrick interrupted her words with a frown, "You aren't leaving me anytime soon." Tears gathered in the corners of his eyes as his mother often spoke about leaving, and he wished he could exchange all their wealth for a longer life so she wouldn't leave him.
"It's life, Derrick. We have to go for the world to remain balanced and allow our generations to continue from where we stopped. But I am not leaving you anytime soon. I still want to see you settle down and witness the next heir of the Luis firm."
"That's fine, Mom. I guess I should leave you to rest now. Have a sound sleep." Derrick leaned over and kissed his mother's forehead goodbye. She smiled and watched him exit her room.
Meanwhile, in the master's bedroom of the exquisite mansion, Miranda soaked herself in a warm bath inside one of the luxurious bathrooms.
"Oh my goodness! This feels so good," she said, not caring about the consequences of her actions.
She had hurried into this room, which was completely different from the ones she was assigned to clean downstairs.
"Mm," Miranda mumbled, enjoying herself in the warm bath. After dealing with the audacious lady who dared to slap her, Miranda thought about showing her what it felt like to be dejected. She was not one to accept disrespect from others, but having come from a lower-class family and becoming an orphan at a young age, Miranda knew the world had no respect for the poor. She aspired to become rich, even if it meant climbing over others to achieve that. She admired the good life, wanted a respectable job, and dreamed of owning a big supermarket or shopping mall in her name.
Lost in her thoughts about her struggles, Miranda didn't care how much time she spent soaking in the exquisite, large, pristine bathtub. The bubbling water filled with scented soap soothed her body, and, with the chilly weather of the night, she felt reluctant to leave the bath. She wanted to sleep there and forget all her worries. She had even let her blonde hair fall behind her back. She was extremely beautiful, but the slap Melody had given her lingered in her mind. Miranda felt like strangling the lady's neck, but she knew that would lead to jail, and no one would come to her rescue.
"Mmmmm." Miranda continued to enjoy herself in the bathtub until she heard the sound of the room door closing.
"Who's there?" Miranda asked, thinking she was in her maid's room on the lower floor of the mansion; however, it dawned on her that she was in one of the master's rooms.
"I hope this isn't Master Derrick's room," Miranda muttered softly until she heard the bathroom door slide open.
After Derrick left his mother's room, he decided to retreat to his own room to rest. The night was chilly and seemed as if it were going to rain soon.Derrick reflected on what his elder sister had said concerning his dating Alexa. He liked Alexa, but he wanted to focus on his father's firm first and expand it to other states, as well as open mini branches all over the world.Returning to his room, Derrick noticed the unfamiliar scent lingering in the air of his bedroom. Switching on the wall switch, his deep blue eyes darkened at the sight of the lady's gown and pants on the tiled marble floor. Not only that, he heard a feminine voice humming inside his bathroom. His room was vast; he had a study room, a relaxation room, and a library where he had studied some of his books before graduating two years ago. Derrick also had a private gym for when he did not want to go to the main gym downstairs, which he shared with his sisters. They were all married and had left his mother's home. Nico
Derrick hadn't thought he would be able to resist Miranda. She was so attractive; her hips had awakened something deep within him, and after returning to his bathroom, he wanted to take a bath to relax from all his arousal. But then he remembered that Miranda had used his bath.Never had he shared his bathroom with anyone before. Now, a maid of lowly status dared to use not only his bathroom but also his sponge and soap. Derrick felt irritated and wanted to discipline the maid, but how could he report such news to his mother? His mother was already over 70 years old. What if she had a heart attack and fainted as a result of the shock?"No, I cannot let my mother find out about this," Derrick said. He was enraged, as his arousal still throbbed, needing that round ass to cool him off."Damn it! What kind of temptation is that? I guess I should have that maid fired tomorrow morning. Isn't she the same maid who dared to beat up Melody to that extent? I see that she's on a mission here, and
"Oh!" Miranda rubbed her sleepy eyes, wishing she could continue her wonderful dreams. But when her big brown eyes landed on the wall clock in her room, she gasped, "Oh my goodness! 10 a.m."Although it was Saturday, Miranda knew Lady Loretta often insisted she prepare her tea and attend to her other needs.Leaping out of bed without another care in the world, Miranda quickly dashed out of her maid's room, rushing past Juliet, who shook her head in disgust.Juliet was two years older than Miranda and a single mother, though she kept this secret from the Luis family.Juliet had landed a job with the Luis family after being kicked out of her parents' home. Her parents were wealthy, but Juliet couldn't identify the man who had gotten her pregnant. Having a child out of wedlock was against her parents' standards. She had spent one night with a mysterious man and believed she would recognize him if she saw him again, but five years had passed without a sighting. He was young then, probably
"Derrick, come here. I would like to have a word with you," Lady Loretta said as she called her only son back. She knew that Derrick was not pleased with her decision to pardon Miranda; however, she liked Miranda a lot. Since Miranda had not wronged her personally nor done anything wrong to the other maids, she could not just terminate Miranda's employment in her home.More likely, Lady Loretta had other hidden objectives. She could not disclose her plans yet, as she had personally taken Miranda away from the orphanage and enrolled the young woman in school. There was a time when Lady Loretta had gone to the orphanage for one of her leisurely kind-hearted works. There, she saw the beautiful young girl who was unhappy and mostly staring at the door.Lady Loretta knew the young girl's wish was to leave the orphanage and explore the world beyond to establish herself. She never disclosed to Miranda that she was the woman behind Miranda's freedom. She made an offer to the orphanage to adopt
"Mother, I would like to take a stroll outside to clear my mind on some things, as I said before," Derrick said as he immediately looked away from Miranda. He saw the pain in her eyes and how she had stared at him accusingly.'What did I do wrong to her?' Derrick wondered as he quickly averted his gaze to his mother.Miranda quickly informed Lady Loretta, "Ma, I have prepared your tea. Your breakfast is served.""Good. Derrick, come join me for breakfast first before leaving. Miranda woke up late today, and upon her rudeness last night, she decided to have me starve this morning, forgetting that she had to prepare my tea," Lady Loretta commented as she rose from the couch and strolled ahead to the dining table to have her seat.Derrick accompanied his mother, gently pulling out a chair for her to sit. He said, "And that's why I told you to fire her. Anything that causes you pain shouldn't be kept close to you.""Derrick, I would not like to think that is how you fired all your father's
Even Miranda was taken aback by the new man's words. She had just walked into the living room, slowly closing the door behind her. Miranda didn't want to believe that Alex was as troublesome as Derrick."Oh! That was a rude thing to say, Alex. You should have simply said that you dated Juliet before. I know Juliet Colton is not from a poor home like the rest. She is a classy, bossy girl who exudes an air of superiority. I did my research on her and heard she had a child out of wedlock, which is why her billionaire parents sent her away from their mansion.""She was pregnant?" Alex looked stunned, and Juliet was more than embarrassed that her life’s secret had become public knowledge. She immediately ran away from the living room to hide her shame."Juliet, where are you running off to?" Lady Loretta asked in a low voice as she called Juliet back, but the latter didn't respond and ran to her room to cry it all out.The tension in the living room intensified, and Miranda was equally stun
Looking confused, Miranda did not understand where Lady Loretta was going with her comments."I don't understand, Ma," Miranda said. Lady Loretta offered her a warm smile."I know you're upset about what Derrick said regarding lower-class families. You shouldn't be annoyed with him. It's one reason you shouldn't eavesdrop on other people's conversations," Lady Loretta emphasized."I'm sorry, Ma," Miranda apologized, her head bowed low."It's okay. Come sit here. I've wanted to talk to you about this for a long time, but I haven't had the chance," Lady Loretta added. Miranda finally raised her head and looked at the older woman."Should I sit beside you, Ma?" Miranda repeated, unsure she had heard correctly. What if Master Derrick came in and saw her sitting with his mother? Wouldn't he fire her for disrespect? Miranda wondered, her hesitation clear on her face.Observing Miranda's hesitation, Lady Loretta added, "You don't have to worry about Derrick. He wouldn't barge in here without
Miranda returned to the maids' quarters on the left wing of the mansion. The maids were engaged in gossip about Juliet and Alex, Lady Loretta's grandson.Miranda summoned two maids to accompany her, and they went up to the top floor to Lady Loretta's room to gather her clothes and take them downstairs. As Miranda did not know which room belonged to the older lady, the other two maids showed her the way, and soon they began gathering most of Lady Loretta's belongings.Miranda thought about what Lady Loretta had mentioned earlier about adopting her because she wanted her to become her daughter-in-law.A sad smile played on Miranda's lips, as she truly admired Derrick, but she knew the housemaster loathed her the most. The girls focused on gathering the clothes first and taking them to the lower floor of the mansion.Meanwhile, Derrick left the mansion for a walk to clear his mind. He had a business meeting the following day, and he wondered how he would ask Alexa out."I have never done
