“Charles—” Bianca tried to argue but Charles made the move to leave, forcing her to leave.

“I will leave the gift in the living room, Charles,” Bianca said with a downbeat tone then she gave me one last glance one with an encrypted meaning that I could decode: it wasn’t over yet.

She left the house shortly after and Charles couldn’t help but remain moody afterward. All attempts to lighten his spirit failed until eventually, everyone had to leave.

When they were gone, Charles retired to his room forgetting the cake he was yet to cut. I was obligated to ensure he did that, so I took the palm-sized cake and went to his door.

“I don’t want to be disturbed,” he grumbled from inside the room in response to my knocking.

“I promise I won’t be disturbing you, “ I said trying to cajole him.

As if Charles was waiting for me, he quickly opened the door. “Megan…” His eyes trailed down to the lit cake in my hold and they instantly became warmer. “You didn’t have to.”

“But I did,” I said
