I nodded, my heart pounding. “I went to the doctor today, and the tests confirmed it.”

Charles leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair. “This complicates things, Megan. I wasn’t prepared for this.”

“I understand it’s unexpected,” I replied, trying to gauge his feelings.

He sighed, his eyes meeting mine. “I need some time to think about this.”
