“You think she believed it?” My wolf asked and I merely shook my head.

“She should. She felt pretty convinced to me,” I replied, falling into my chair with a sigh. What was I thinking, imagining Killian would ever be mine? Even without realizing he's her mate, he still cares for her. Despite my looks, degrees and accomplishments, it felt like I was never anyone's perfect half.

“Can't wait to go home and gulp down that bottle of wine,” I grumbled, packing my things from the table now. What I said to Lucienne was the truth as I can't treat a patient if I was broken myself.

With a heavy heart, I began clearing out my office, packing away the files and notes that had accumulated over the week. It was bittersweet to leave behind the familiar surroundings and closeness to the man of my dreams, but I knew it was time to move on.
