Episode 1: The Alpha
If I can turn back time, I wish I didn’t leave.
This pain and torment they’ve caused still lingers,
And revenge is my morphine.
“To be a great leader, acknowledge your boundaries. Study your tactic and focus on defenses.”
I smiled as father taught me of these things. A war on a battlefield is an unending history, both an honor and a sacrifice. Being the General’s daughter, everything was complicated. A ceaseless deliberation, a risky life-and-death situation, that I must take over. It was fourth moon when I returned home from the academy, witnessing an unexpected scenery.
“Your kind can never be superior to us.”
A tear escaped from my eyes as rivers of death flows ahead of me. Fist clenching as I kept my mouth shut, didn’t dare to talk or reflect my presence. Lifeless bodies sprawled on the bloody floor and there were victorious smiles on their faces. I saw nothing but ferocious beast on their every corner, a brutal massacre.
“You can never defeat us. Such a lame strategy of a useless general!”
In a blink of an eye, they’re gone, leaving only ashes of the once prosperous kingdom, nothing was left like the entire Sinandaya territory was purposely erased. Grudge… and resentment became my greatest hook. Building an empire hidden from the world’s naked eye, I became a leader of my own battalion.
Sinandaya territory rose from dust, a kingdom that became every survivor’s hope. Having enough ability and strength, the plans and tactics laid down for many years can finally be executed. I, Adira Vallejo will bring back the honor and justice we long deserve.
“Gaia,” I whispered to myself facing the crystal clear running waters ahead of me. A name I used to hide my identity. In this world full of deceptions, you cannot trust anyone but yourself. And if you do give away easily, you lose and may never get up.
Turning and walking away from the river, I took a sip of the last drop of blood I can consume before entering the wolves’ territory. Wearing an identical armor of their commander, assassination is not an exception for me to succeed her. Everything is settled down just before we head to the Abberant pack where my target is located.
“Gaia, warriors are now at the bottom of the cliff. Be ready,” Felipe reminded me, setting all the archers on the goal to cause commotion for me to enter their group and replace the commander. I just nodded as an answer and secured the bronze mask covering half of my face. Just how fast time flies, Felipe has now become a skilled leader-far from the old cry baby that was orphaned by that brutality. He became a brother to me. He’s the mastermind of this planned task, by the way.
“Aim… Fire.” With His signal, I swiftly flew below. Kicking the masked female commander off her stallion in a blink of an eye. Using the sorcerer’s enchantment, my vampiric scent was temporarily hidden away from these wolves. According to Mayari, this troop was bound to return to Abberant from a recent reinforcement from the war in the Aramoor part of Claveria which was a great opportunity for me to enter their territory.
“Head north! No one shall stop until we reach the borders!” I shouted and everyone shifted to their wolf form just as expected. I let them surpass me in order not to be seen through. With miles and hours spend, we finally reached the borders. At this time, everyone shifted back to their human form. And they’re naked in front of me!
“Soyosoy di dagem, bulan ay manpaila, (Blow of the wind, the moon appears,)” I calmly responded when a masculine man appeared at the huge bronze gate. A passcode Mayari had discovered and given to me-every wolf with high rank in this pack only knew about it.
The gate opened, letting the twilight strike its majestic rays. Behind these enormous walls were a scenery I never imagined. Majestic mountains and a broad river surrounds the valley, the pack territory was really wide and abundant. A gorgeous paradise. I smiled bitterly, knowing that behind this splendid place was a bloody stain on every warrior’s hand around. Killing and stealing what we once have makes them obtain this kind of life.
“Commander Gaia, the Alpha invites the entire troop inside the pack house.” A man in fine clothing approached us which I only nodded as a reply and followed him towards the place he mentioned.
Even the grounds were exquisitely crafted out of tanzanite colored sirha stones, one of the rare findings of Claveria Haltera. The greenery where the path lies shouts splendor and vainglory. Pups running around and other groups of warriors training on the other side. Everyone enjoying this kind of life yet they don’t care how and what other creatures feel whom they treated like ants they just stomp and kill mercilessly.
“Warriors, please head to the banquet hall. As for the commander, a report to the alpha is necessary,” a man with blond hair enunciated as we entered the manor. I managed to keep poised and tag along with this man which I assumed as the beta judging from the way he freely wander around this place and take the Alpha’s orders directly. He silently opened a door on the second floor, revealing a grandiose place inside.
“How was the task?” a voice sprung up from the opened veranda. With the twilight beaming behind this man, I managed to see him clearly the moment he stepped closer to where I stand. Those blue eyes met mine and a bizarre feeling erupted.
“All done, Alpha. Any more requests?” I held my guard up, not losing control nor letting my affections take over. My hands rested and ignored the way he darts his stares at me.
“Nothing, I wonder where your falcon emblem is.”
I froze, falcon emblem is a commander’s badge affirming its status and ranking which I didn’t expect for this Alpha to notice it is missing.
“Vampires ambushed us on the way, such unexpected attack costs all my attention that I may carelessly have lost it. Spare me for my recklessness, Alpha.” I kneeled down and felt his steps closer and closer until his distance was no longer a meter away.
“Tell me your name.” In an authoritative manner, he raised my head with a dagger pointed on my neck. And again, his oceanic eyes collided straight into mine causing turmoil and an unexpected blaze inside of me craving for his blood.
“Gaia,” I answered with all my defenses up. Holding on to my senses that I may not lose them to this sudden temptation every time our eyes crash. “Commander Gaia of the fifth infantry division,” I added.
And I witnessed a sly sneer on his face as he keeps the dagger’s blade slanted on my nape as if it was only a harmless toy intended to be placed around my neck. “What would you want to be your reward, Gaia?”
His voice…
Why does it sound so euphonious? The wrath that had surrounded me has dissipated, but this sudden thirst of blood entices me to draw closer to him.
“It’s Balaraw. Hand me a dagger that is winged with a symbol of nobility and a warrior. I want it to be finely-worked with precious metals and ivory.” I raised my head and reached for his hand, averting the blade from further piercing my skin.
The whole room silenced upon my answer and only a chuckle from this Alpha ahead of me echoed, kneeling and leveling with my head elevated. “From all the officials entering this den, you’re the only one who asked very demanding for a reward. How audacious!”
“I don’t dare to, Alpha. This mere commander is answering a question coming out of a superior’s tongue.”
“Don’t you think you are actually thinking highly of yourself being rewarded with such precious things?”
“I don’t, the Alpha has asked for what this commander would want for a reward. And I think I am worthy for such things because I, myself faced the frontier and risked my life under the honor of the Abberant pack.”
He quieted, not exiting the staring contest. And for a couple of minutes, he again chuckled and faced his beta on the right corner of the spacious room. “Cedric, grant this creature with the dagger she asked for.”
“Right away, Alpha. Any more orders?”
The Alpha just shook his head and returned his gaze on me when the door closed, “You may take your leave.” My head nodded before I stood up and head my way off the room when a sudden action dragged me back to him. Slammed on those cerulean eyes again with his lips murmured a word that caused chaos to my head, “Do you know you are my mate, Adira?”
“Nonsense.” Holding a chalice full of red wine, I gritted my teeth to such thought. An Alfarro will always be an Alfarro, they’re deceptive and ferocious. I should have not underestimated this Abberant Alpha, seems like I will be needing more time to take his complete favor. “Commander Gaia,” another voice called, making me turn back to the banquet hall. This home coming feast was part of their customs after every army have successfully won a battle. A tribute perhaps. I raised my cup, giving them a toast. I can’t risk staying inside with the faint smell I can’t t
“Commander Gaia of the fifth infantry division, the Alpha has given out a mandate for you.” A loud voice and a destructive banging of the door woke me up. I aggravatedly closed my eyes and tossed this thick green blanket as I get up from bed. “It’s an urgent mandate, the Alpha said.” It’s a new face, I wonder who this is. “Commander,” he repeated as he handed me a letter with its ash seal still intact. My forehead creased as I opened it, a mandate? What would he want me to do? “Fifth Infantry Division’s Commander, Several reports of a massive vampire town settling on the border of the Abberant and the Madfur Okami Territory has been
Sun sets, and the entire army was bound to return to Abberant. Mounted on a horse, I calmly lead the voyage. Down a valley, where clouds heads down to touch the earth and the greeneries kissing the last drop of sunshine. A simple gesture on my hand released thousands of silver arrows from the sky. “Assassins!” “Watch out!” “Protect the Commander!” Dozens surrounded me in an instance, sheltering me from the flaming arrows. With no hesitation, I draw out the sword from my left and mercilessly slashed their throats
Episode 5: An Alfarro“Forget it,” He murmured, grabbing my hand as he walks away.“What’s with my hand? Why are you dragging me?” I complained but he did not answer. He walks faster and faster like he’s chasing someone which I do not understand why he needs to take my hand. My forehead creased as I let my legs follow him until we reached a cliff. The edge of the cliff that boasts the best place to see such scenery, a smile suddenly was painted on my lips unrestrained. I stepped closer at the cliff’s furthermost part and stretched out my arms. The full moon seems to draw really close that I can touch even the glow it possesses, sceneries like these makes my heart finds its ca
Episode 6: Sign“Did he leave?” I questioned which I later then answered on my own, “Of course he did, you wouldn’t come here if he is still around.”“I do not know if you really get it or you’re just acting unaware,” Diego enunciated as he wipes off the remaining drips of blood on his neck. “He is my father, do you think I would just stand there and watch you two kill each other?”“It could’ve been a wonderful live performance for you to watch.” He chortled as he turned away and walked towards the opened veranda door. “If I am you, yes I might’ve done that. But I am not someone wh
Episode 7: Strange disease As soon as we reached Cabuyao forest, I extracted a single drop of my blood to an ayusip gem then tossed it in between the gaps of two gigantic pine trees. Ayusip gems were pygmy rare stones that turn from blue to red when it absorbs a tiny amount of blood, and only Sinandaya territory has this kind of gem which we constantly use to enter the portal. Sinandaya has long been hidden from the rest of Claveria by the help of sorcery and one can only enter when a vampire’s blood drips down the ayusip gem. “Stop!” thundered a voice. It was from Tyler, the current brigadier in charge of the regiment. “A deadly strange disease was spreading throughout the capital and the other districts. Commander Felipe
Episode 8: Rigel Kentaurus Three days and a couple of nights, the envoy has finally returned from Pinansey-angan territory. Dustin and Lireign led that envoy which I rest assured they’ve handled the task well. Apart from the trusted ones inside the kingdom, they are the ones who have the gentle way of talking and calm appearance that makes them the perfect messengers. “What do they ask in return?” Felipe queried. We are on a covered area that they’ve created as a conference hall with the barrier separating us from the inside. The leaders of the districts were also present as to this meeting. Sinandaya kingdom was divided into four states, mainly the Abatan of the southern Sinandaya, the Halsema in the east, Ampusungan in the west, and the capital part is Naguey.
“Sinandaya kingdom has been hidden for a decade. And to this time, only this territory knew our existence. So as part of our condition, I request for this matter to stay confidential.” “Tell me a reason why we should keep it confidential,” Vander mouthed as he keeps his hand on his chin and the other on a glass chalice filled with blood. Two of his male confidants were standing on the side while the three of us, Lireign and Dustin, were sitting surrounding the round table. It was already dusk but none of us weren’t ready to leave because this Prince is making the deal much more difficult. He always morphs and diverts the discussion for I don’t even know the reason why.
Death… is never evitable. Life has started the sprout. And then when it blossoms and reaches the end, they’re sent to death. That’s why they called them best of friends. “What would you want to be your reward, Gaia?” His voice reverberates inside my head. It still sounds euphonious even if it’s only a memory. “Balaraw. Hand me a dagger that is winged with a symbol of nobility and a warrior. I want it to be finely-worked with precious metals and ivory.” A tear fell down and blotted the cream color of the ivory handle. My fingers simply glided it away as I pulled the blade off from its sheath. &nbs
Adira’s POV“How many had Sinandaya sent?” I asked Tyler, Sinandaya’s second-in-command, while I stand on the military camp reserves’ portion.“Five platoons under His Highness’ order,” he answered with his hands crossed behind him. Right, from the moment Sinandaya has been brought back on Claveria’s map and its existence to the other territories’ eyes, Felipe Homura finally was crowned as the prince regent and should’ve been formally Sinandaya’s Emperor if it weren’t because of me who pulled another war. If it weren’t because of Tyler, I couldn’t have known the reason why Felipe left abruptly.“Does it in
Third person’s POV The blasting of the cannons, the yells and screams of bleeding hearts full of strong desire to grasp justice and stability, are all gone. The field that had once grown vast seas of dandelions now was covered in crimson blood. Cruelty, deceit, and wondrous bloodshed. Killing and rivalry had never left the world. His eyes were like raging seas, his every step closer and nearer to where the subject is was like thunder meeting the ground. The fire had been ignited and there was no turning back.“We met again,” he spoke. Amidst the dark skies with only the shine of the
“I’m not gonna shut unless you tell me what happened at the field,” I irritatedly replied when she again yelled at me to shut up. But still, she didn’t answer what I ask for and darted me a glare before taking it back to the tiny creature he was holding. “I’m not a good storyteller. Just do ask your good friend when he comes back later.” My eyes automatically rolled and lay my back on a standing pillow as I sip from a glass of blood. Then she suddenly talked, starting a decent conversation perhaps.“Do you have a name for him?” I shook my head and flung a plain stare at the sleeping baby in
Third person’s POV*Sinandaya; A week before Diego had left Abberant pack for the convocation in Shadowstone“It seems like you want to find something.” Snow is falling so hard. The windows are all shut tight except for the door that slammed open from the outside. In came a woman zipping her leather jacket. Her hair was untied and messed up flowing with the wind.“I know you,” blurted the man sitting on a single-seater couch facing the lighted fireplace. Her hair with a streak of crimson red settled on her shoulder when she tied it slowly as her feet approaches the man with a tied dark brunette hair.“So, you get cold too? Didn&rsqu
“What? They’re declaring what?” I almost tip over when one of Mayari’s team suddenly flashed down from the front carrying a sealed letter. And Pinansey-angan’s attack was stopped unanticipatedly.“Ceasefire, General. They want to pause temporarily.” My brows furrowed even more that I snatched the letter from her. But instead of a decent group of words, what’s written was a bunch of meaningless ones. ‘The Senate’s judgment.’“Why should I care about the Senate’s judgment?” I muttered irately with my fist clenching the piece of paper.
“The princess regent of Daghum committed the most ridiculous thing during a war. Hmm, never have expected that,” Marco casually commented as his eyes travel meters towards the enemies’ side. It’s almost set. Only a few more hours and the sun will be buried in the east, the signal for them to attack.“For now, we should leave her case for tomorrow. We have a problem that much needed our attention than hers. Do you two have something in mind?” I questioned them. Mayari talked and pointed Daghum’s army on the far corner of the frontier’s first line of defense. “What happens to them? I don’t think they will be under our control, now that their commander had left.”
Being told about my pathetic chronicle, Mayari shut silent about the Abberant’s side and didn’t ask any more questions. Except these two; the current beta of Sanguine and the princess regent of Daghum, trying to crack the shell.“I am warning you, Lady. If you dare step in my way, I’m gonna kill you.”“Oh, really? As if you can approach me, not even an inch, lowl!”“What? Do you think you’re that difficult to slit?” Since these two entered the tent for the convocation, they’re like cat and dog trying to kill each other in quarreling. One’s defending Abberant and the other against his side.
“Gaia!” Mayari blurted, eyeing the black stallion I’m in. Edith’s right, they’re all in here. Abberant’s main frontier, specifically in the fallen first and second lines of defense, was now retained by three divisions; Daghum, Sanguine, and Mayari’s platoon.“I need the plan,” I opened. Leaping down the horse and walking towards Mayari. A sword was on her side and attached to her leather-like chest plate were clusters of tiny daggers and blades, and if I would guess, it was not only secret weapons that were resting inside every clutch but of other useful things like pieces of cloth and perhaps tablets. “The&mda
