Avery’s POV

The intensity and emotion in James’s words hit me with a force that I didn’t expect. Tears streamed down my face, blurring the ink on the paper.

He was really sorry for the past, and I knew that he was truly being sincere. But wasn’t it a little too late for us now?

As much as his apology moved me, I realized I couldn’t see a future with James anymore.

His future belonged with my sister and their children and I didn’t want to get in the way of that any longer.

It was now also clear to me that James wouldn’t let me go without my permission. He was still holding on to the broken promises we shared. He was hoping for a reconciliation that I could no longer give him.

I had to let him go and make him know that it is fine to let go of the past.
