Chapter 0005

Selena

He gritted his teeth angrily and his fist was clenched so tightly by his side that it was obvious he was trying to hold himself back from hitting me.

Regardless of how Lucian treated me, he knew better than to lay a finger on me. My pack was a like a backbone to his pack and if my father got upset and pulled back his support, things could change for the worse. No matter how hard he tried to pretend like that wasn’t a fact, he knew it deep down and acted accordingly.

He stared at me in silence for a few seconds before he reached out to grab my neck but I was quick to step away from his reach.

“How dare you!” He growled in anger as his brows furrowed, he was so angry that his eyes shifted from their original form to his wolf’s blue ones, “so just because I have been away for a while you’ve grown wings.”

“This isn’t about growing wings Lucian, this is about respecting my boundaries as much as I respect yours.”

I shot back with confidence.

I had no idea where my confidence was coming from, maybe it was because I knew Logan was behind me and he would never let Lucian hurt me or maybe it was because I have had enough of his affection towards Cindy.

It drove me insane and broke me in ways I never thought was possible.

“She is just a damn maid Selena and she had dared to disrespect my mate and the Luna of this pack, I would put her in her place and punish her whenever I damn well please because I am the Alpha of this pack.” He yelled at me as he turned and made his way towards the maid who was still cowering close to the bed.

I stepped in front of him and shoved him back with the strength of my wolf and being a Luna, my wolf’s strength was enough to stop an Alpha like him.

“And who is she? If she is just a maid then who is she?” I yelled back at him as I pointed at Cindy, “she is just a mistress to you Lucian and my maid is not entitled to give her the respect that you’re demanding for.”

“Selena,” he snapped, “do not forget that I am still the Alpha of this pack.”

“Then do not forget that I am also still the Luna of this pack regardless of your mistress’s presence.” I clapped back and he stared at me with his mouth hung open slightly, in shock.

He had not expected me to react like this, he had probably expected me to crawl into a corner and cry myself to death but that wasn’t me anymore. I was so done being the one always hung up on him and getting hurt when he didn’t show me affection.

Logan was right, if he couldn’t see what we had then that was his loss not mine.

He stared me down with such ferocity that should have forced me to whimper and step aside but I didn’t, I glared back at him in anger and soon enough, he backed down.

“Help me pack up.” I said to the maid as I moved around the room, gathering my things into my bags and as soon as we were done, Logan, who had been watching everything in silence, helped the maid and I move the bags out of the room.

The room was my room just as much as it was Lucian’s, we shared the same matrimonial space but when he stopped coming home, the room became mine but if his mistress was going to make a fuss about it, then she could have the room to herself.

I wasn’t willing to fight over a room, I just wanted to ensure the people close to me like the maid I had grown to see as a sister, didn’t get caught up and hurt in the whole thing that was going on at that moment.

It didn’t matter to me if she took the room or not.

Deep down, I knew that was lie. The fact that Lucian had tried to give our matrimonial position to that woman drove the knife that was already wedged in my heart deeper and it left whatever was left of my heart in pieces.

How could he do that to me? Has me hated me that much all these while? All these years with him and he had no affection for me whatsoever that he was willing to rub it in that he was mated to her, as if it wasn’t bad enough that she was carrying his baby.

I moved to the empty room down the hall that hasn’t been used by anyone ever since I got married to Lucian so as soon as the maid was done helping us arrange the new place, she excused herself and returned to her other chores.

“What you did back there for the maid was commendable Selena.” Logan suddenly spoke up when we were alone.

“I didn’t do it so I could be commended.”

“I know that, that’s why it’s commendable.”

“It doesn’t matter if it’s commendable or not.” I shot back and he smiled.

We finished up whatever was required to make the room suitable for me and to my surprise, he didn’t leave, instead, he bent down on one knee in front of me since I was seated on the couch and held my hand in his, gently.

I was taken aback by this simple yet touching gesture of his.

“He doesn’t deserve you Selena. Someone that would hurt you this much simply because of a woman he thinks he feels a mate bond with doesn’t deserve you.” He said and I cocked my head sideways to look at him.

“And why do you think that?”

“You’ve spent years of your life trying to achieve whatever you thought was best for this pack, I watched you Selena and I have never seen a woman as selfless as you are.” He paused and took a deep breath.

“I respect you and your position enough to never want to see you get kicked out like some garbage or like someone that they no longer find useful, that was why I defended you with everything I could in that meeting with the council but one thing I must admit is that, I never want to see you unhappy, no matter the circumstances.”

Unsure of what to say, I just listened to him without saying a single word. He took my silence as a sign of agreement and continued,

“In as much as I never want you to leave Selena, if at any point at all, you stay here turns into torment and all you feel is pain, suffering and sadness then I would never stop you from leaving, in fact, I would support that decision. Any decision you make at the end of the day, I would always support it because I just want you to be happy.”

For a few seconds, I let his words hang in the air between us while I reflect over everything he has said. I knew Logan cared about me, it was safe to say he cared more about me than Lucian did, he never forgot my birthday unlike Lucian and every single time, he always gave me a present while Lucian on the other hand, was never home.

But he was wrong to think I wanted to leave, I would admit to being in pain but that wasn’t enough to make me leave because I wasn’t staying back for Lucian, I was staying back for something that mattered so much more to me than he ever would.

For the one thing I had dedicated a lot of myself to.

“I am staying for the pack, not for Lucian, I can’t bear to see my efforts getting ruined by a childish Alpha like him.” I responded and his eyes lit up with some sort of glow that I couldn’t comprehend.

“And am I a part of the reason for your decision?” He asked and it took a couple of seconds for the real meaning behind his questions to sink in but as soon as it did, I looked up at him sharply.

“Please tell me I am a part of it Selena, I have waited long enough to hear you say that.” He added and my eyes widened in surprise.

I always knew Logan cared a little more than the others but I never thought he would be bold enough to hint at his feelings, especially not when Lucian was back home.

Lucian was the Alpha and he was the beta, how could a beta love his Alpha’s Luna?

It only meant one thing, death.
