Shannon’s POV

“You could’ve talked to me about it, Melissa.” I sniffed. “I would’ve understood and found a way to work things out for everyone of us involved in this.”

“It’s easy for you to say now that you’ve realized that you’re going to lose everything you were going to covet, Shannon.” Melissa laughed. “A few weeks ago, you wouldn’t have entertained this idea.”

“You have to believe me, Melissa.” I sighed as tears pooled in my eyes. “There is no reason for me to lie to you. I want out of this more than you can possibly imagine and that is the truth and nothing but the truth.”

“Let me let you in on a little secret for old times sake, Shannon.” Melissa began. “I never wanted for this to happen, this wasn’t my intention in the first place.”

“What?” This whole situation was messing with my head and I was finding it difficult to piece everything together.

“I lied to you earlier but now, I’ve realized that there’s no point in hiding the truth from you because you deserve to know.”
