SCARLET
Branches scratched my skin as I darted deeper into the woods, lungs burning, heart pounding. I knew nothing about the land I was racing through—only that it was a place no one sane dared to venture. The wolves had stopped at the border, pacing but unwilling to cross. That should’ve been a relief, but it wasn’t. Still, I kept running. I ran until my legs screamed in protest and air almost dried up in my lungs. I stumbled to a halt, leaning against a tree, my heart hammering in my chest. Had I lost them? Hopefully I have. I looked around, my body trembling from exhaustion and fear. The forest was quiet, scaringly too quiet. Something moved in the distance, it sounded like the soft ripple of water stirring in the silence. I darted behind a tree, pressing my back against the rough bark. My heart thudded violently in my chest as I peeked out, scanning the river ahead. And then he appeared. A man stepped out of the water, slow and deliberate, like a predator confident in its territory. I swallowed hard, my gaze glued to him. He didn’t look human—he looked otherworldly, like a god. His appearance screamed authority and mercilessness. His damp hair clung to his sharp cheekbones, droplets tracing paths down the chiseled lines of his face. His jaw was sharp enough to cut, and the full curve of his lips looked both cruel and enticing. The water shimmered along every ridge of his perfectly sculpted chest and abdomen, trickling down to where his shorts—if they could even be called that—sat low on his hips, clinging to his skin. He moved with a relaxed grace. His muscles are perfectly sculpted, each shift of his body mesmerizing, like art in motion. For a moment, I forgot where I was—forgot all my life’s problems. I forgot that I was standing in the lion’s den. He stopped suddenly, his gaze lifting to where I hid. I held my breath. His eyes—dark as night but gleaming with something deadly—pinned me in place. He hadn’t seen me. He had sensed me. “Come out,” he called, his voice smooth and commanding, filled with an unsettling calm that sent shivers racing down my spine. I didn’t come out, I was too scared to. I clutched the bark of the tree tighter, as if it could somehow save me. He tilted his head slightly, the corner of his mouth lifting in the ghost of a smile. But it wasn’t kind. “Run if you like,” he whispered, voice like velvet. “It won’t matter. You’re mine now.” His words wrapped around me like a snare, but I stayed silent, pressing my lips tightly together, barely able to breathe. I watched him with wide eyes as he moved with precise calmness, almost too calm. He reached for his trousers and slipped them on with ease. Each step he took was measured, dangerously slow, like he had been searching for a prey and he finally found one. I clenched my fists, as if making myself smaller could somehow make me disappear. The only hope I had was that he would pass by without noticing me, that somehow, by sheer luck, I’d be invisible to him. But then, suddenly, the silence shattered. Leaves rustled, a sound that grew into a thunderous crashing through the trees. A low, familiar growl rippled through the forest, followed by the pounding of paws hitting the ground. Wolves, racing toward us. In an instant, his eyes shifted, gleaming a fierce, unnatural golden yellow. His head snapped angrily in their direction, and my heart leaped. I knew those wolves—they were pack warriors, sent by Alpha Jade to track me down. Without hesitation, he tore through the wolves ruthlessly. His movement was swift and merciless, like he had had a lifetime of training. One wolf lunged; he sidestepped, stretched out his hands and ripped out its heart, crushing it in a single blow. Another tried to flank him, but he seized it mid-leap, slamming it into the ground. Suddenly, more men emerged from the woods, their eyes gleaming the same bright yellow as his but of less intensity. A chill swept through me, keeping my feet rooted to the ground. I felt my stomach twist painfully, my heart pounding in my chest. I had only heard rumors of his brutality and now I was witnessing it first hand. This is definitely my end. The forest was frighteningly silent, with dead bodies scattered across the blood-soaked ground. Every last wolf that had invaded Willow Brooke lay dead. The air was thick with the scent of blood and sweat. The warriors, breathing heavily from the intense fight, stepped back and lowered their heads in respect as he strode forward, exuding an oppressive authority. His gaze swept across the fallen wolves before flickering to the tree where I crouched, hidden in the shadows. His eyes narrowed, and he raised a hand, pointing directly at my hiding spot. “There’s one more,” he announced, his voice echoing through the clearing, low and dangerous. He turned back to his warriors, his expression hardening. “Bring me her heart!” They turned towards me immediately, their footsteps thundering closer. My heart hammered against my ribs, a wild, frantic rhythm of terror. I crouched lower in my hiding place, praying that the shadows would swallow me whole. But the moment their piercing eyes locked on mine, I knew it was over for me. A rough hand seized the neckline of my top, yanking me out of my hiding place. He looked even more scary up close , his hands clasped behind his back. His lips curled into a predatory smile, one that promised pain and fed on fear. One of his warriors unsheathed his sword. The metallic hiss cut through the silence, and I felt the blood drain from my face. The blade gleamed as it was raised high above me, its edge set to deliver the inevitable. My body shook violently, tears stinging my eyes as I clutched the dirt beneath me in a futile attempt to anchor myself to life. “Please! I’ll do anything you want!” The words tore from my throat, raw and desperate. I was supposed to say my last prayer, even though I knew the words wouldn’t help, I still wanted to take my chances. My eyes clamped shut, my lips trembling as I braced for the blow that would end it all. One second. Two seconds. Three seconds. Time seemed to stretch, but the pain never came. Instead, there was silence. My eyes fluttered open, hesitant and tear-blurred. The sword was no longer descending toward me. Instead, it replaced by a dark green orb staring deep into my eyes like he could see my soul. “You have no idea how dangerous your words were.” His voice was calm, almost conversational, but each word carried an unspoken threat that sent shivers down my spine. I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice. “I-I meant it. Anything...just don’t—don’t kill me.” My voice cracked, my desperation spilling out of me like blood from a fresh wound. He crouched in front of me, the faintest smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Anything?” His tone was mocking, his dark eyes gleaming with amusement. “Be careful, little one. Promises like that can chain you to things far worse than death.” Without giving me any more audience, he straightened, turning his back to me with a dismissive wave of his hand. “Bring her,” he commanded, his tone cold and detached, as if I were no more than a stray animal being rounded up. ***** I stood frozen in front of the full-length mirror, staring at my reflection as if it belonged to someone else. The girl in the glass wore a stunning gown that hugged her body too tightly for comfort, its embroidery shimmering under the dressing room lights. Her face was painted with unfamiliar colors, eyes darkened with smoky shadows and lips a shade too bold for her usual plainness. It felt like staring at a stranger. Hours earlier, they had dragged me from the cramped, windowless room where I had been locked away like some animal. Now, I was here, dressed up like a Barbie doll, the perfect picture of grace. But for what? My fingers twitched as I fidgeted with the flowing fabric of the gown. I took a deep breath, trying to loosen the corset's grip on my ribs. My hair, which I had always kept in a tight, neat bun, now cascaded down my back in loose waves. A strand escaped and caught on my lips. Frustrated, I spat it out, wishing for the simplicity of my usual look. This wasn’t me—this couldn’t be me. I glanced down at the silver heels they’d forced onto my feet. They sparkled like they belonged to royalty, but all they did was make me feel unstable. How could I run, fight, or survive in these, if I had to? My legs felt like jelly just standing still. The sudden creak of the door made my heart skip a bit. “It’s time,” A guard said, bowing slightly before motioning for me to follow. He led me out into the dimly lit hallway, his boots echoing against the wooden floorboards as I stumbled behind him. The further we walked, the louder my heartbeat grew. We took the grand staircase, leading down to the massive entrance doors of the pack house. Another guard pushed the doors open with a dramatic flourish, My heart skipped a beat at the sight in front of me. A crowd of people gathered across the courtyard, their faces illuminated by the golden glow of lanterns and the pale light of the moon. Cheers erupted. My anxiety surged, sending my vision spinning. My knees buckled, but I stood rooted to the ground, staring in disbelief. I felt a rigid presence beside me, I looked up to see my captor —their Alpha. His piercing cold gaze bore into mine, a cruel smirk playing on his lips. “All hail the Luna of Willow Brooke!” someone shouted from the crowd, their voice ringing with reverence. “We’ve been expecting you. Welcome!” My breath hitched, my mind scrambling to process what I had just heard. Luna? What the actual heck!SCARLET "Callum, just this morning you told us not to bother you about finding a mate," one of the pack elders said, his voice obviously echoing with disbelief. I realized then, that I didn’t even know his name, I just referred to him as their Alpha, My captor. We were seated side by side on grand, throne-like chairs. Callum’s posture was relaxed, like he was so used to this, like this was nothing to him. But I on the other hand could barely breathe, with the number of gazes on me, I felt suffocated. “How did it happen?” another elder asked. “It just did,” Callum replied curtly, his tone was dismissive. The elders exchanged glances, nodded as though they understood, and left us alone. “L-Luna? W-what’s going on?” I whispered, my voice barely audible as I turned to him, I hadn’t gotten the chance to ask and I might never, so the moment I got a chance, I asked. He didn’t even spare me as much as a glance.“Would you rather die?” he asked coldly, his gaze still on the dance perfo
CALLUMNext Day, Monday Morning."I got an email from the Crimson Howl pack," Nolan, my Beta, said as he stood across from me. His tone was sharp, but my mind was far away from him. I fiddled absentmindedly with the pen in my hand, leaning back into my chair my hands placed carelessly on the arm’s rest. "They said they’ve been with us for six years and want to explore other options," he continued. His voice slowly faded into a distance as my thoughts drifted to Scarlett. The conversation we had yesterday played on repeat in my mind. How can She not have a wolf. The realization of the implication hit me harder with every passing moment that I thought about it, than I expected. Scarlett, my supposed mate that I just paraded in front of the whole pack, without a wolf?. How had I missed it? Why hadn’t I sensed it sooner? Even if I’d only intended for her to serve as a figurehead Luna, I needed her to have a wolf. It wasn’t just tradition; it was survival. What would the pack think? W
SCARLETT. Few hours later. I glanced up at the wall clock in my room, 2:30pm, it wasn’t until four o’clock before my training starts. I had nothing to do but sit in silence and stare at nothing, I didn’t even have energy to think about anything, the more I tried to even consider where exactly my life was going, the more the thought slipped from my grasp. A small knock came on my door, I got up from my bed and rushed up to the door . I pulled the door open and peeped out, a sigh of relief escaped my mouth as soon as I saw that it wasn’t Callum. Rather, it was one of the park maid, I flashed her a small smile and opened the door wider, I looked down at the suitcase and duffel bag in her hands, it was mine. “Good Afternoon ma’am, Sir Nolan asked me to bring you this,” she said, I had no idea who sir Nolan was, but I’m grateful they helped me retrieve my things, I grabbed the extended handle on the suitcase and pulled it in. “Thank you so much,” I muttered, she bowed one last time b
SCARLETT 7:30 PM “Ow! Ow!” “Ouch!” “Ahh—ow!” Callum’s hands paused mid-motion, his sharp gaze sliding sideways to me. His brows arched, daring me to utter another sound. My protests died in my throat as I swallowed hard, lowering my gaze to the floor. “This is worse than I thought,” he muttered to himself, under his breath. I could feel his anger just beneath his words, though he kept his movements meticulous and steady. I winced again as he dabbed at the open wounds on my arms and shoulders. My body felt like one massive bruise, every muscle screaming in pain. Today's training session had pushed me beyond my limits—no, broken them. Tobias hadn’t held back, and Callum had let it happen, watching silently until the last moment, when I was certain I wouldn’t survive. And now, I had no idea why he didn’t let the maids clean my wounds and insisted on doing it himself. He already told me before, that my words could chain me to something far worse than death, maybe this was
SCARLETTNext day 12:00pm.I stole a glance at Callum, seated beside me. He had insisted on accompanying me to the clinic for this medical checkup and decided to stay through the process. I wondered why he decided to, but I guess he just wanted to be as thorough with me as possible, plus he was hiding the whole thing from almost everybody. The office was pindrop silent, the only sound in the room being the faint hum of the air conditioning. Dr. Salem had just finished examining me and had left us here in his office while he reviewed the results. All the pains from yesterday’s training had stopped, My body was recovering, but my mind wasn’t as fortunate. The conversation I’d had with Callum yesterday kept running through my mind, each lap leaving me more confused than before. I was dying to know what it is between him and my mother. The soft click of the door broke the silence, drawing my attention. Dr. Salem walked in, holding a folder. “Sorry for the delay. I had to double-chec
CALLUM 5:00pm.As soon as we stepped through the door, I barely had enough time to gather my thoughts before Nolan strode toward us. After hearing what happened, I decided to end the training immediately and give her time to come to terms with the news. I always knew Cora was greedy, but I didn’t see this type of greedy coming."Oh Thank goodness you’re here!" he muttered. I stiffened, locking eyes with him and my gaze narrowing on him. "What’s wrong? This couldn’t wait?" I muttered. I honestly didn’t want Scarlett bothering with our plans or getting involved. She lowered her head beside me and slowly stepped away. “I’ll get going now,” she muttered and began to walk away."Actually," "what I wanted to say concerns her more." Nolan said. She stopped in her tracks and slowly turned back to us. I took my eyes off her and they landed on Nolan. My jaw tightened and I slipped my hands into my pockets, “What are you talking about? Let’s go to my study," I said. But Nolan didn’t res
SCARLETTNext day.Monday Morning.A soft knock came at my door, pulling me from my thoughts. I frowned slightly, glancing at the clock on the wall. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the maids, because they wouldn’t let themselves in unless I did. I slipped on my flip-flops and walked over to the door. When I opened it, a young maid stood there, her smile radiant despite the early hour. “Good morning, ma’am!” she chirped, holding a neatly wrapped box in her hands, I could see her hands twitch slightly, probably due to its heaviness.“Good morning,” I replied, my voice soft as I returned her smile. My eyes dropped to the package she held. “Alpha Callum asked me to deliver this to you.” Her words made me pause. My brows knitted together in confusion as I carefully took the box from her hands. “Thank you,” I murmured, stepping back to close the door. Once inside, I placed the box on the bed and sat down beside it. My fingers brushed over the crisp wrapping paper before I spotted a
SCARLETT.Minutes later.I shifted uncomfortably under Callum’s firm grip around my waist, he noticed and then, his hold tightened. He pulled me closer, his jaw set ,intentionally avoiding my gaze. I sighed in frustration. Wasn’t he against me coming? What had he even come here for? Why the drama, this could have being easily avoided.“We should head back home now, right babe?” he finally said as he turned to me. I forced an awkward laugh and nodded. My gaze going back and forth between him and the headmistress, I hadn’t realized that being his Luna on contract, would involve certain moments like this and it was extremely awkward for me.“Of course, of course,” I muttered, trying to ease the discomfort in my voice. I turned to the headmistress one last time, offering a polite goodbye. But just as we were about to leave, a small, sweet voice called out behind me. “Luna Scarlett?”I stopped and turned, my gaze falling on a little girl with wide eyes and a daisy flower clutched tightly
SCARLETT “Scarlett!” I heard Callum’s voice as soon as I walked into the Packhouse and my heart unintentionally skipped a beat. I paused in my tracks as he made his way towards me, grabbed me by my shoulders lightly and began to look me over. My eyes followed his hands in confusion as he looked through my body as if checking for injuries. “Are you okay?”“Did anybody try to hurt you? Did anybody approach you today or anything?!” He asked all in one breath, I grabbed his hands almost immediately to make him stop. “Honey! I’m okay, what’s going on?!” I asked. He exhaled deeply and shook his head slowly. “Nothing, I just thought something bad had probably happened to you,” he mumbled, I slowly took my lower lips into my mouth and shook my head slowly. “I’m okay,” I said to him and he nodded slowly. “Where did you go?!” He finally asked. His question caught me off guard almost immediately like I didn’t see it coming. I raised my brows and pressed my lips against each other.“Hmm?”
CALLUM FEW MINUTES LATER “Seth, lead a portion of the warriors and go this way. Make sure you cover the entire surroundings,”“Nolan and I will lead the rest inside the building,” I ordered as soon as we arrived at the six-story abandoned building. “Yes, sir!” Seth howled, nodding firmly with a small bow. Without wasting any more time, Seth and his group moved away to cover the entire surrounding, while my group proceeded into the building. “Let’s split up so we can cover this place quickly. We mustn’t give anyone a chance to escape!” “If you find anything, even the littlest unusual thing, communicate with the rest of us! Everyone should put down the walls of their mind link! I don’t want any excuses!” I briefed them hurriedly, and the moment I was done, we all turned in different directions in the building. I moved stealthily through the dark hallways, lit up by a small torch in my hand. My senses on high alert as I advanced in my search. The scent of dust, mold, and stal
SCARLETT 10: 30pm “Woah! This is crazy!” I whisper yelled with my eyes wide open as I scrolled through my laptop. My phone was beside me on the table connected to my earbuds as I checked the file Annabeth sent to me on my laptop. “Scarlett, Crazy is an understatement!” “The whole time, the account we’ve been tracking is a fake account? It was created in Kael’s name but it wasn’t his,” she said, I exhaled deeply and shook my head slowly. “Do you think Kian did this?!” I asked reducing my voice lower than a whisper, she exhaled at the other end of the phone, I slowly turned to my phone and picked it up. “At this point Scarlett, I’m very suspicious of him,” she said. I dipped my hands into my hair and moved it backwards as I slowly leaned into the chair I was sitting on by the pool.“Is there a way we can confirm all this once and for all? And find out if he’s behind this or not and find who is actually behind this,” I said to her. “There’s only one thing we can do. We need ac
LATER THAT DAY CALLUM “I found a digital contract with your parent and Cora, it was clearly a rip off but your parents still signed it. It’s either she had something on them or they were just plainly oblivious of the whole arrangement, which I clearly doubt the former,” Nolan said to me as he walked into my office, took his seat across from me on the table and stretched out his tablet to me. “Where did you find this?!” I asked him as I gently took his tablet from him and looked through it. “Yeah, I was going to tell you, I found this safe in your father’s previous office and it contained a flashdrive, unfortunately this was the only document in the drive,” he said. I sighed and slowly reclined in my chair, “Scarlett keeps saying I should leave everything concerning Cora to her and focus on apprehending Kayden, but the truth is I think she’s starting to take on more than she can bear,” I said to him. “Well I think if we hand over all we’re able to find against Cora to her, it’ll
SCARLETT Next Day. 10:00am.A small knock came on my door, I slowly looked up at it and got up to my feet, Callum left for the office few hours ago. I adjusted my knee lenght floral dress and asked whoever was at the door to come in. The door slowly went open, Kaitlyn poked her head in a little bit before walking in fully.“Luna, I’m so sorry. I did everything to wash it but the stain just isn’t coming off,” She said. I sighed and rolled my eyes to the back of my head.“Kaitlyn, I already told you this before, forget about it, just dispose it, it’s not that big of a deal,” I said to her, she bit on her lower lips and bowed slightly. “I’m sorry, really,” she whispered.“Stop being dramatic Kaitlyn,” I said to her as I slowly picked up my bag on the bed and looked up at her.“It’s fine, I was just about to step out. Also, when I get back, I’ll like to have just meat, and make sure it’s well done,” I said to her, she nodded immediately in response. I grabbed the door knob and walked
SCARLETT Later that night …“Since I don’t have anything important doing, I’ll be visiting the orphanage often, Annabeth would join me whenever she’s chanced,” I said to Callum as I looked up to look at him through the mirror. I was seated in front of the dressing mirror applying face moisturizer.“Are you sure that’s convenient for you?!” He asked, I moved my head backwards almost immediately and I finally turned around to face him.“Convenient for me?! That’s my job! I should be doing it,”“Besides you guys are so busy looking for Kayden, I should be able to put things in order at the orphanage so this doesn’t happen again,” I said to him and he nodded slowly, turning his gaze back to the tablet he was working on. “Any progress though?!” I asked and he shook his head slowly.“No at all, just that Kayden apparently had the same pair of shoes as Kian,” he said, I slowly took my lips into my mouth and nodded slowly.“Any efforts on getting the lost footage files?!” I asked and he s
MEANWHILE TWILIGHT ZONE ALEX “Are you really going to behave like you didn’t stand there and let Scarlett beat me up?!” Alyssa said to me as soon as we walked in and she slammed the door shut heavily behind herself. I slowly turned to her, she had an irritated scowl on her face with her hand gripping her waist firmly. I rolled my eyes to the back of my head with a small sigh as I turned and walked further into the living room. “Did you just ignore me?!” She snorted angrily as she stomped towards me.“She asked you to stay back and you did?! Since when did you start listening to people much less Scarlett?!” She snorted,“Have you fallen in love with her?!” She asked, stepping even closer to me. I scoffed and shook my head at her.“I think the question should be, have you fallen in love with me?!” I queried raising my brows at her. “Our relationship is purely contractual and open, you and your mother needs me in your lives just as much as I need you both in mine, so don’t go aro
SCARLETT “Kian?!” I slowly unlocked the driver seat, pushed the door open and slowly stepped out. His eyes followed my movement and slowly landed on my face as soon as I stepped out fully and slammed the door shut. I saw the corner of his eyes twitch and his lips slowly stretched into a smirk that wiped off immediately, almost as if I was hallucinating and he didn’t smirk. “Scarlett?!” He whispered as he slowly dropped his hands, removing the gun from my face. I slowly stepped away from the car and walked towards him. “W-what a-are you doing?” I asked in a stutter, my voice barely above a whisper. His eyes slowly left my face and landed on my car.“I-I - must have made a mistake,” he muttered as he slowly returned the gun to his back pocket, he dipped his hands into his side pocket and took out a definely cut peice of paper.“Apparently, Kayden’s number plate and yours are similar, just the last two digits are different, I was so desperate to find him, I didn’t realize it wasn’t
SCARLETT Next Morning, 8:20am “Scarlett!” Myla exclaimed lowly as soon as she stepped out of the kitchen in her apartment and saw me walking inside. “You didn’t have to come here, I don’t want your mother to be suspicious at all,” she said wiping her hands with the back of her dress. “It’s fine, I’m leaving already,” “I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to listen to the meeting with Arthur yesterday, what did they talk about?” I asked. She exhaled deeply and slowly folded her hands across her chest. “Alyssa and Alex will get married still. Something about Veto power, the Alpha gets what the Alpha wants,” she said her face downcast with a small sigh. “I thought this would be the way to finally show everyone who they really are,”“But guess who turned the whole thing around, all under the disguise of being in love, what nonsense love!” She snorted as she slowly folded her hands under her burst. I reached forward and gently placed my hands in her shoulders.“It’s fine, they’d fall into your
