She searched the place for a moment and made a beeline towards the bar where she saw Elle already enjoying her drink.

She quickly took the seat beside her friend. “Four shots de téquila, s'il vous plait,” sabi niya agad sa nakaabang na bartender. Ngumiti ito at agad na inayos ang order niya.

“Four? Are you that thirsty?” nanlalaki ang mga matang tanong ni Elle sa kanya.

“No, I’m stressed and pissed,” aniya bago sinunod sunod tunggain ang apat na shots ng tequila na mabilis na isinilbi ng bartender sa harap niya.

The drink burned in her throat, warming her insides but not enough to put off the emotions overtaking her.

“Hey, what’s going on, Tala?” Elle asked, her voice filled with worry.

She looked at her only trusted friend ever since she moved to Paris. She didn’t want to do it but she’s desperate.

“Twenty thousand Euros,” she declared in a stern voice.

Elle’s brows furrowed in an instant. “Okay? What’s that—“

“That’s how much you owed me this month after you spent all of your money to your friggin’ Antoine,” aniya, may kaunting gigil ang boses.

Antoine is Elle’s on an off boyfriend. The materialistic college guy clearly was just using her friend and would always spend Elle’s monthly allowance coming from her attache’ father currently stationed in Canada.

“Why are you mentioning all of those suddenly, Tala. I told you, I will pay next month and—“

“I will tell your uncle that you’re still with Antoine even if you’ve assured him last month that you’ve already broken up with him.” Lalong nalukot ang mukha ni Elle. “I will tell him that and more of your secrets,” she continued.

“What?!” gigil nitong singhal, humawak pa nang mahigpit sa braso niya. Elle leaned closer to her and asked with widened eyes, “Have you gone mad, Tala Eloise?”

She laughed. She knew she pushed the right button. “No. My mind has never been this clear, Elle.” Tumuwid siya ng upo, mischief in her eyes. “But don’t worry, I won’t throw you under the bus just yet if… you will help me.”

“Help you with what?”

“You need to say yes first then I will tell you.”

Elle scoffed. “I won’t do that!”

"Fine,” she said before looking for her phone inside her bag.

“What are you doing?”

“I just remembered that I have your uncle-mayor’s number. I’m sure he’d be pissed to know that his niece is still crazy in love with the man he told her not to fall for,” kaswala niyang sabi, panay pa rin ang halungkat ng cellphone sa bag niya.

“Allez! (Oh cmon!) Fine! Yes. Whatever it is you want me to do, yes!” gigil na sabi ni Elle, humawak pa sa braso.

Nag-angat siya ng tingin at ngumisi. Elle rolled her eyes and began mumbling something in French.

Pagbaba niya ng ikaapat na shot glass sa counter, she swore, her vision doubled before it went back to normal again.

Good, she thought.

Kandahilo siyang tumayo bago sumigaw ng, “I am looking for a man to be my husband for a month for fifty thousand euros. The first to kiss me, wins,” she declared.

Agad na nagkagulo ang paligid. She heard rushed footsteps, tumbling chairs and Elle yelling—more like preventing anyone from getting close to her.

“No! Stay away! Trou du cul!” Elle yelled at a young man who tried to approached her.

She giggled as her friend frantically called for the bouncers for help.

Mali ang Daddy niya. With the right amount of money, pwede pa rin siyang makapamili ng lalaking pakakasalan siya.

When the bouncers successfully dispersed the crowd of men surrounding her, nakapamaywang siyang hinarap ni Elle. “Have you gone mad, Tala? Why are you suddenly looking for a husband here?”

“Because it’s the only way,” she replied half laughing, shaking her head a little bit.

“What? Vous êtes fou? (Are you crazy?) Your Dad will hear of this again!”

She laughed at her friend’s face of confusion. “Just do what you promised, Elle. You will help me get hitched tonight or you can say goodbye to your Antoine too.”

Elle stomped her feet in frustration. Elle gave the man a tongue-lashing.

She giggled as she watched Elle push the man back to the crowd where the bouncers were. And that’s when her vision began to blur again. She started to feel light headed too.

“Are you okay?” the man asked in a deep voice, his hands were on her waist, steadying her.

His voice was pleasant to the ears, soothing like a caress. Even in the poor lighting condition of the place, she knew his eyes were a beautiful shade of brown. He smelled nice too—lemon and sandalwood. She doesn’t know but warmth enveloped her in an instant and she snuggled closer to him.

“I… I need… you,” she whispered absent-mindedly.

Dammit! She sounded like a horny hussy from an indecent film! But what can she do, she liked his smell and warmth.

He chuckled and she felt the rumbling of his hard chest against her fingers.

Oh this man, this man is something, she thought.

She bit her lower lip and looked up at him. Without warning, she tiptoed and gave his unsuspecting mouth a kiss. What's just supposed to be a peck became a full blown kiss when he responded with so much intensity and urgency.

His mouth was hot and inviting.

Delectable.

She knew she really won't mind kissing him until tomorrow but...

When he ended the kiss, she was reeling. From the tequila or the kiss, she doesn’t know. She only knew one thing… it’s him.

She chuckled inwardly, trying to hold on to her logic or what was left of it. Doubts were swirling inside her head. But she quickly shook them away. She had gone there tonight with a purpose-- to find a contract husband for a month. And she won't leave that place without having one.

It's the only way, she convinced herself. Her father left her no choice anyway.

The man helped her get settled to her seat once again with his eyes still locked on hers. She felt the air was sizzling, scorching her with a need she had just read from books.

“What’s your name?” she asked, still reeling.

“Knoxx, mademoiselle,” he replied with confidence.

Knoxx.

She liked his name. Rugged. Mysterious. Delicious.

Perfect.

She smiled and slowly shook her head to get her bearings. “I’m Tala. Well, you kissed me, Knoxx. Do you agree to be my husband for a month?” she asked in a breathy voice.

He paused for a while and studied her. Not a while longer, he grinned and pulled her flushed to him. “Oui, mon cheri,” he declared before claiming her mouth into another fiery kiss.

“Un scotch avec des glaçons, s'il vous plait (One scotch on the rocks, please),” Knoxx said to the bartender as he settled himself on one of the stools surrounding the bar area of the club he was in.The bartender gave him a little nod and proceeded to get his drink. Two giggling girls passed by him, catching his attention, making his head turn towards their direction. One was clearly checking him out, and the other had her eyes elsewhere. The side of his mouth curved up as he studied the girl who still had her eyes on him. The girl has a nice face and curves in the right places. But she oddly moves a little but too childish for him, teen-ish.He doesn’t date girls anymore. Girls tend to be clingier and demanding—a thing he will never sign up for.He likes experienced women. He ain’t the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am kind of guy though. He just likes to go to bed with women who understand what it meant to have fun— no other strings attached. But he hasn’t had any fun for a long time now.

A persistent buzzing sound from somewhere woke Tala up the next day. With her eyes still closed, she reached for her phone on the bedside table, wanting to make a stop on the annoying sound. Darkness greeted her. But the small amount of light seeping through the sides of the heavy curtain was telling her that it was already morning. The buzzing sound continued. Iritable niyang hinanap sa bedside table ang cellphone at in-off iyon. Finally, blessed silence. Agad siyang napamulat. She was sleeping on her side, like she usually does. Her back was facing the usually empty side of her bed.Empty? She heard a quiet groan. She froze. Now she’s more than sure that the other side of her bed wasn’t empty at all!Agad n

She had been waiting in there for a few minutes now, hoping that a seat would open up for her. And the she must admit, the waiting is killing her. She doesn’t want to make a scene right now. And she’s more than sure, should what she feared of happens, she’d make the biggest scene she could ever come up to in her lifetime. She huffed, gently massaging her temples. She would’ve ignored the woman who has been taking some mocking glances at her for some time now, kaya lang, bumulong ang babae sa kasama nito. She had been calling her friend for hours now mula nang dumating siya sa Germany. And truth be told, she's annoyed and at the same time worried. Imposible namang tulog pa ito. Pasado alas dos na ng hapon! Elle can’t be in bed still! She closed her eyes and patiently waited for the ringing on the other end to stop until the automated voice prompt enters. Subalit biglang umangat ang kabilang linya, agad siyang napamulagat. “E-Elle?” “O-oui? Q-qui c'est ?” anang paos na tinig ng kaibigan sa kabilang linya. Agad na nalukot ang mukha niya. Was Elle just waking up? “C'est moi, Tala. (It’s me, Tala)” “T-Tala? Shoot!” She heard ruffling sounds. Then she heard a familiar male voice on the background. “Are you

I've said it before and I'll say it again, makikipag-date ka kat Quinton sa ayaw o sa gusto mo!" Tala rolled her eyes secrety as she averted her gaze from her father. Magkaharap sila ngayon sa library at nag-uusap. Ilang minuto pa lang mula nang dumating ito sa Germany kasama ang ibang mga kaanak niya in time for the wedding of Gael and Charlie tomorrow. And her father did not waste any time to confront her with her recent stunt. He didn't even say hi nor checked on how she was.Gusto niyang magtampo kaya lang, wala namang bago doon. Ganoon na rin katagal na nagkukulong siya sa kanyang hotel room because of some unexplained dizziness. She’s been living off to egg drop soup and clam chowder from the hotel’s restaurant for two days now. And though she would want to order for some other food from her favorite restaurants within Milan, hindi niya magawa dahil naka-freeze pa rin ang mga bank accounts at credit cards niya. But today, she’s hopeful na baka inayos na ‘yon ng Daddy niya dahil nagawa na naman niya ang pinapagawa nito, ang katagpuin si Quint. However, when the ‘declined’ message popped up on her phone’s screen again, she almost threw her phone off the window! “Elle, thank god you answered!” bulalas ni Tala nang sagutin ng kaibigan ang tawag niya. She barely slept last night monitoring the news. And she can’t help but be anxious for her friend. Wala itong ibang pamilyang kasama sa Paris. And based on the news last night, pinag-iinitan ang lahat ng may koneksyon sa uncle nito, politikal man or personal.“T-Tala,” Elle replied in a frail voice. Her friend sounded exhausted.“A-are you well? Please tell me you are. What happened to your uncle is all over the news. I’m worried about you,” dire-diretsong sabi niya.Elle realesed a slow breath. “I am fine, Tala. I just arrived here in Canada. My Daddy arranged a special flight for me to come here. Tala slowly gave her reflection on the mirror a once over. On her was a black silk dress; an exquisite diamond necklace Knoxx had given her on their anniversary; and of course her favorite pumps produced by her very own brand, Stella. She tried, but she cannot help herself but smile. Why wouldn’t she, life has been so good to her for the past two years. After that heartfelt reunion she and Knoxx had at her parent’s house in Manila, she officially became Mrs. Stavropolous, again, that very same day. After her parents and the rest of her family came back from their quick tour at Asteri Island, that is. Hindi niya alam na sa buong panahon na asar na asar siya kay Knoxx dahil hindi ito nagpapakita sa kanya, pasimple na pala nitong hinahanda ang kasal nila with the help of her Auntie Sam and her parents. Yes, her parents did a great part on the display of ‘sea-of-roses’ inside their house. Her father proudly admitted that himself right after the wedding. Knoxx then had decided to move h

Tala's heart instantly hitched, turning around as quick as she could. And there she saw him, under the bright morning sun, just a few steps away from her, the prince who’ve swept her off her feet since their crazy wedding night, Prince Knoxx Iossif Stefanos Stavropolous. She quickly gave him a once over and he never disappoints! Her prince is as handsome as ever. He grinned, making her eyes roll in fake annoyance. Agad siyang namaywang. “Why are you here? And where are the people of this house? What did you to my parents, Knoxx? And Atlas, where is my son?!” sunod-sunod niyang tanong sa mataas na tinig. Knoxx gave her a heart-stopping smile, making her want to rush to him for a hug. But she stilled herself. She must not let logic falter now. They must talk. They must. “You don’t have to worry, mi bella. Everyone’s safe. And regarding your question, I came here to explain—“ “I already know everything. Everything,” she said, cutting his words. He paused and stared at her for a whil

“Arise, shine, Star Princess!” anang pamilyar na tinig ng Mommy ni Tala na siyang nagpagising sa kanya. She gently opened her eyes and the warmth of the morning sun coming through the big windows of her bedroom greeted her. She saw her mother arranging another bouquet of pink Ecuadorian roses on the vase on top of the bureau inside her room. “Another one?” she asked, gently pushing herself to sit on her bed. Her mother smiled. “Yes, princess. Your husband doesn’t miss a day,” anang kanyang ina bago muling ipinagpatuloy ang pag-aayos sa mga bulaklak. Husband. She still can't believe that the arrogant prince made her go through all the tears and heartaches for nothing. Knoxx is still her husband or so her father had told her. These days, her parents are openly discussing about Knoxx, especially her Dad. And she is more than relieved to know that despite his absence, Knoxx is slowly making his way through her parents' hearts.

Knoxx heaved a sigh as he stared at his phone, recalling the brief conversation he just had with Tala. Well, with his wife’s temper he knew that the whole ‘getting-back-together’ plan he had in mind would surely be a feat. But that doesn’t mean he is giving up. He’s just… being considerate given Tala’s condition.Olivia had given her last night an earful of dos and don’t’s when it comes to dealing with pregnant women. At totoong nakinig siya. He clearly remembered how his bratty princess of a cousin reminded him over and over again that pregnant women must always have things their way. And that’s what he just did. Hopefully, that by giving in with Tala’s wishes for now, lumamig na rin ang ulo nito sa kanya at tuluyan na siyang kausapin pagbalik niya sa Pilipinas.Pagbalik niya sa Pilipinas. He sighed and put his phone back to his pocket. His Majesty gave it

“Yes, Genevieve seduced me and I gave in. I allowed her to fool me and get the better of me. I-I’m sorry,” said King George, still lying down on his hospital bed. Makahulugang nagkatinginan sina Ares at Knoxx, sharing the same gleam of anger in their eyes towards their enemies who had made them suffer for years. At first Knoxx was conflicted to leave Manila. If it wasn’t for his mother’s persuasion to go home, baka nagpa-iwan na siya. But he’s glad he did go home. Because if he didn’t, he would’ve missed the clan’s meeting and his Uncle George’s confession. Yesterday, they were informed that his Uncle George had already opened his eyes. But the doctors didn’t allow any member of their family to talk to him just yet. They had to make sure that the King’s condition is stable and that he is ready to receive visitors. It took a

“Ano pang tinatanga mo d’yan? I told you to leave, haven’t I?” gigil na singhal ni Tala kay Knoxx. She really cannot believe he’s inside her room right now, and lying on the bed with her, her very own bed! Imposible. Her Dad hated Knoxx’s guts noon pa. And she’s sure her father, hated Knoxx all the more after everything that has happened between her and her ex-husband. So how in the world was he there inside her room—comfortably sitting on her bed looking more handsome than she remembered? She tried to get her wits straight as she questioned herself. But all she could ever think were all the awful—morbid even- thoughts on how Knoxx ended up inside her room. She groaned inwardly as panic and anger instantly rose in her chest.

The dinner was filled with formal talks about business, leading a country and current events. The topics were of his interest but when Atlas finished his food, Knoxx excused himself to spend more time with his son. They were by the receiving room, playing a race game on his son’s IPAD when Joshua approached him again, asking him to step inside the library. He glanced at Ares who was walking towards the lanai with the rest of the Sandejas family and President Tuazon. His brother grinned at him and gave him a thumbs up. For what, he does not have any idea. “There are three things you must know before we move forward from here. First, I hate you. That won't change even after a million years. Second, I still think you don’t deserve my daughter nor my grandson. Understand?” “I understand, Sir. And the third?” Sandali siyang tinitigan ni Joshua.

  • A Husband For The Wild Heiress   Chapter 91: Promise 2

Knoxx had been in many difficult meetings and negotiations his entire life. He had been exposed to such since he was younger for he’s been born a leader, one who's supposed to see beyond the mist—composed, level-headed, sure with just about everything. But right there, in front of Tala’s parents, Knoxx felt like he has just been thrown in the water when he doesn’t know how to swim. If he’d be honest, his knees were shaking like a fckin leaf. Well, he should be. And the events that had led them into that situation clearly proved, he had not been taking care of his family like he promised. He doesn’t even want to lie either or appear to be all righteous in the midst of the chaos. Because at that point, he knew, alam na ng mga magulang ni Tala ang mga nangyari rito sa pananatili nito sa Maritria. He cannot deny any of it. So he wan

“I dont’t know what got into your head and created trouble inside the hospital. Sa pagkakaalam ko, malinaw ang pagkakasabi ko kay Quint na galit sa inyo ang mga Sandejas,” sermon sa kanila ni Kylie habang ginagamot nito ang sugat ni Ares. Naroon sila sa isa sa mga treatment room sa emergency ward. A different doctor, a resident he presumed, was attending to Knoxx and dressing his wounds. “Bakit ako ang pinapagalitan mo? It was all Knoxx’s fault! I had warned him dozens of times—Ouch! Dammit! That’s hurts, Dr. dela Vega!” reklamo ng kapatid niya, panay ang ngiwi habang patuloy si Kylie sa pagdampi ng antiseptic sa sugatang mukha nito. “And it will hurt more if you’d continue complaining, Prince Ares!” gigil na sagot ni Kylie, patuloy sa pagdiin ng bulak sa mukha ng kapatid niya. Ares complained again, louder this time. Knoxx huffed. Why can’t his brother keep quiet?
