Chapter 343

The first thing Eunice did upon returning to her apartment was take a shower. Then, she put some ice on her cheek before applying the ointment the doctor had prescribed. After that, she retired to her room.

She was exhausted but couldn't fall asleep. Of course, she knew that the exhaustion wasn't physical—it was mental. She was so tired that she felt smothered and oppressed.

The vague smell of nicotine that Ian always had on him permeated the bed. It wasn't pungent. In fact, it was rather nice. Now, however, it seemed to stab her heart like an invisible blade.

Though what had happened today had been nothing but a misunderstanding, Eunice had still felt sad, fearful, and angry.

She'd also wanted a shoulder to lean on, but there'd been nothing of the sort. It was bad enough not to have anyone to lean on, but she even had to put up a strong front.
