Lucas just felt that lately, there’s been a greater distance between him and his secretary. Savannah had gotten close to him the last few months, and in just a short amount of time, the distance grew again in between them.

Much to Lucas’ dismay, lately he also noticed Andrew getting quite close to Savannah for his liking. His assistant had been hanging around her a lot.

Just like right now, they were discussing the new project that possibly would be a tremendous benefit to the company. Savannah was standing beside Andrew around the table near where Charlie currently sat.

Lucas stood in front of Charlie, subconsciously glaring at the two. It’s as if he wished Andrew to vanish into thin air to some place. He wouldn’t care if the man was freezing in Antarctica, or suddenly got on a date with the gorilla in the zoo. Whatever, as long as it put some distance between him and Savannah.

The thought of Andrew having a

He was wearing a black suit, looking at the window in deep thoughts. Yet, in the silent atmosphere, he still couldn’t think straight. Something was bothering him. After some moments, Lucas sighed deeply. His body falling into the chair behind him. A few minutes passed as a frown decorated his handsome face.Lucas took off his suit, changing it into more comfortable clothes, a black T-shirt that was neither too tight nor too loose. At the same time, he gathered his thoughts. A resolute look appeared on his face as he finally decided on something important.Snatching the keys on top of the table, Lucas exited the apartment as he walked towards the garage where he got in his car and drove somewhere. That afternoon, Savannah had just woken up. • A Girl From the Past   Chapter 31

Lucas felt a massive headache in his head and the pain gnawing at his heart. The guilt of what happened a few years ago surfaced again in his emotion.Fate has its unique way of toying with people’s feelings.Maybe, in the past, he was too impulsive to rebel against his father’s decision in that manner. Now, he was regretting it all.He was too arrogant in the past, and it unknowingly has become his weakness. It made him judge people without a clear head and looking at things from another person’s perspective.Lucas threw his body in the bed, clearly frustrated. His head hit the wooden table near the bed, yet he ignored the pain. Both his hands were covering his face. He felt numb, and in his heart, he realized that he had been such a fool. The marriage at that time indeed wasn’t held in a grand manner. Only the close work colleagues and distant relatives came to the wedding. Still, it must still be hu

  • A Girl From the Past   Chapter 32

Lucas had been absent from the work for nearly three days until now, yet Andrew didn’t urge him to return to the office as soon as possible. From the tone of his friend, he knew that he was probably mulling about something. At a time like this, Lucas liked to be alone.Savannah also somehow seemed to act a bit strange the day Lucas called for some days off. It was as if her mind was somewhere else. She lost a bit of focus on her work, though it didn’t affect her overall performance. Savannah would be in a daze when she got called by someone. Then, after a while, she would finally snap out of it. It happened a few times.Andrew noticed the probability of the two people’s actions somehow related to each other. But he didn’t want to probe on both of their privacies. That was until today, Savannah came knocking on his door, asking for full a week off. Her face was emotionless, though sometimes anxiety could be perceived

  • A Girl From the Past   Chapter 33

Lucas stared at the address and some information written on the screen of his phone. His usually indifferent face seemed to be filled with anticipation and a mixed feeling. Sometimes, anxiety and nervousness also meddled within. He had contacted some people to search for certain information a few months ago. Now, he finally received the result. Sighing, Lucas checked at his clock. Two hours until work ended. The address he received wasn’t considered nearby nor far from he was right now. Maybe an hour's drive and he would arrive at the place. From the information. He more or less knew that the name of the couple who raised Sofia was the same. He wasn’t sure if it was a coincidence or not, but he hoped that it wasn’t.A change of heart. Will it happen or not?Time ticked by slowly. As the two hours finally ended, Lucas spared no time to loiter around. He swiftly walked out of his room, almost making employees

  • A Girl From the Past   Chapter 34

Lucas looked around his office absent mindedly. It still filled his mind with yesterday’s event. He couldn’t help but think about a few possibilities that made the woman he knew as ‘Auntie Ellia’ act like that. Yet, if he didn’t seek the answer, he will only be able to guess and never to find the truth.Lucas glanced at his phone and contacted some people who were familiar with investigating something. Surely, he wanted to find some leads about it.The investigation probably going to take quite some time, so he decided that maybe he could secretly visit that house again to observe the case.“You seem so busy lately.” Andrew yawned tiredly as he slammed the documents in his hands into Lucas’ table. It was packed full of the task he had just finished.Lucas just glanced at him and didn’t provide any reply. Andrew wasn’t bothered either, and he just leisurely took a seat on the opposite of Lucas. Lucas’s heart almost jumped out of his chest. His expression only changed for a moment before quickly returned to normal. His usual emotionless mask that almost everyone was familiar with. He had done this; masking his emotion a lot of times, so after a few moments of secretly neutralizing his breathing, his heart calmed down.“I am just a passerby, Sir.” Lucas quickly said to the middle-aged man in front of him. “I am searching for one of my relatives here who is being hospitalized right now and accidentally got lost in the way.”The middle-aged man narrowed his eyes at Lucas, who kept on a calm expression. Though, a storm was raging in his heart right now. If he didn’t quickly leave the place right now, there was a possibility that the woman inside would come out to check the situation. If that happens, then he would be found out.Despite his worry, Lucas kept the calm expression displayed on his face,

For the next few days, Lucas didn’t go to check up on the Dawson family by himself. He simply asked someone to pay attention to them.It had been a few days, and he finally decided to take a look at them by himself. If possible, he also wanted to talk to them, to sort out the problem between them. He wanted to know what happened to them, that Auntie Ellia refused to acknowledge him. This time, Lucas was standing in front of the same room again. He didn’t rashly knock on the door and got in. Instead, he was observing the situation first.Inside the room, there were three people. The little boy called Juwen, Stephen Dawson, and Ellia Dawson. The little boy seemed had his eyes shut tightly, seemingly unconscious. The familiar middle-aged was stroking his hair worriedly, glancing at her husband once a while. The middle-aged man seemed to remember something as he scanned Lucas' face. "You are the child that surnamed Hernandez, right?"Lucas raised his eyebrow, feeling a bit surprised. The middle-aged man in front of him certainly knew who he was, unlike Auntie Ellia who refused to acknowledge him.He briefly glanced at the middle-aged woman who still had her eyes downcast, unwilling to meet his gaze. This caused Lucas to be more puzzled."Yes, that's me, Sir." Lucas gave him a small smile.Stephen gave a light chuckle, as if happy that he met with an old acquaintance. He gave the young man in front of him a deep look."You've grown up to be a successful man."Lucas didn't respond

The bustling activities outside didn't manage to disturb a man and a woman as they stayed inside the car. While the woman's eyes occasionally roamed around; as though she was searching for someone, the man behind the steering wheel would look at her before he followed her gaze. He clasped his hands together to cushion his head as he leaned back in a relaxed manner.Lucas enjoyed the atmosphere that he couldn't help but close his eyes for a short while. When he opened them again, he turned his head, finding his vague reflection in the car window staring back at him.His hair had turned slightly white on certain parts while his skin had gotten some wrinkles. He had aged a lot, considering it had been more than ten years since he made that promise."What makes them take so long?" The middle-aged woman's eyes still kept on looking out, staring at the high school young boys and girls outside.L

She had woken up from that dream again, sat up, and froze on the place as her mind raced.A moment later, a perturbed look appeared on her face. She couldn't help from biting her nail.Various emotions attacked her at once; bewilderment, disbelief, sadness, and finally a little guilt. She sorted her thoughts, and gradually calmed down. That's right. She would meet with Lucas tomorrow. If she didn't solve this knot, which somehow had haunted her in the past too; she wouldn't feel assured. As the time for their meeting slowly approached, Savannah prepared for her clothes; the red long-sleeved ruffle blouse combined with the black long trousers. She picked something simple. She w

  • A Girl From the Past   Chapter 47

Savannah didn't want to talk to Lucas, so she avoided him.She had this vague, uncertain subconscious since she had gone back here. Seeing him and that woman who claimed to be Sofia Dawson, bringing a somewhat uncomfortable feeling. It was frustrating, yet she didn't understand why. No, it wasn't jealousy. She didn't like Lucas that way. The two's relationship was what should be professional between work partners. This frustration was akin to an itch that she couldn't scratch, something she couldn't put her finger on. Yet, she had the feeling that it existed. What is this?A blurry, vague memory surfaced amidst the chaotic mind. Savannah didn't remember exactly, but she had an inkling that it was somehow related to Lucas. Sofia carefully knocked on Lucas's office room, her heart somehow felt uneasy. She waited outside Lucas's door after she knocked three times."Enter." The voice that neither warm nor cold rang out. Sofia swallowed silently and pushed open the door. She found Lucas was sitting on his chair as usual with a languid expression. His indifference caused her pupils to shrink. This lukewarm attitude made her somewhat at a loss. She could only bit her lips as she suddenly had a foreboding. However, as soon as that thought entered her head, she shook it off. Wishing that the worst possible scenario in her head won't happen."You called me, Sir?" Sofia asked, she didn't dare to sit without him telling her to. She didn't know what to do."Yes," Lucas nodded without looking up. Then, he gestured with his hand. "Sit."Sofia felt slightly better. This way, her nervousness wouldn't be easily noticed."You may not expect this when I called you here."

  • A Girl From the Past   Chapter 45

It was a little girl with blonde hair around the age of five, someone he had only faintly remember. Yet, now that memory had gradually turned clear.Lucas was standing in a daze, looking at the photo in his grasp with disbelief. How could it be here...?The grandma's words drilled themselves into his mind. Repeating like unending waves. The photos of Amara's mother. It was Savannah. But, how could she look so different now? The current Savannah had the hair of light brown while the little girl named Sofia Dawson had blonde hair."Is this Savannah?" Lucas's words came out abruptly. The grandma looked startled at Lucas's reaction, then tentatively nodded with slight confusion."It was one of the photos of my granddaughter." She didn't address how Lucas called Savannah by her first name. Are they that close?Lucas's hand was trembling slightly as he stared unblinkingly at the figure in the photo. It was a girl sitting on a sofa, unaware

"Let's go." Adrian dragged him excitedly after he exited the car, tugging on his sleeves.Lucas followed the kid's lead as he carefully walked to the familiar house. Adrian had been nagging him to bring him to visit Savannah's house. He couldn't help but give in to the little boy's endless chattering. He knocked to the tightly closed house. For a moment doubting whether there were people in the house or not. He waited. When none was answering, he knocked once again. The one opening the door wasn't Savannah as he somehow expected her to be. It was an old lady with hair fully white. A kind expression on her face as she regarded Lucas with a surprised look. After a moment, he noticed Adrian who was anxiously hanging on Lucas's arm. She smiled kindly at the little boy."Are you coming here to visit Amara? I heard from Janette that Amara has gotten a friend lately." She then moved her attention to Lucas. "And who is this gentleman? Are you the kid's fat

Lucas didn't even know how he must feel right now. His eyes kept on glancing at the phone screen, with a slight shocking feeling that wasn't also quite a shock. It was a piece of news that just randomly popped up since he just casually typed on his phone. Yet, he was the only one that knew what it took to search for such news that would probably bring him more complications. It was the news about Savannah. Lucas knew he shouldn't have to get privy to her affairs, but somehow there was something inexplicable that caused him to do so."Are you alright?" Andrew dumped a few files on the table, his eyes accidentally swept past Lucas' phone on the table and the website of news that hadn't been closed yet.

  • A Girl From the Past   Chapter 42

"Are you alright ... Lucas?" Sofia's soft voice sounded out, stiffly calling his name. Lucas snapped him out of his daze.Lucas looked up to meet Sofia's beautiful face. He found out that she was a rather simple girl after Lucas had caught up with the things regarding her.She always wore simple clothes, the long-sleeved white blazer combined with the black skirt that went down her knees. She also acted more like a quiet girl next door.Lucas looked at her and nodded, he didn't speak anything. Right now, unlike last time that Andrew was sticking and interrupting the two. They were walking side by side of each other in the rather comfortable afternoon, right after they had a meal together. They went to the bookstore as per Sofia's request."Do you have something in mind that's bothering you?" Sofia tilted her head to the side, making her looked more lovely as she voiced her concern. "If you want to talk about it, I am always available."Lucas

Andrew ended up going with the two of them, Lucas and Sofia, nonchalantly squeezing a place and put himself in between the man and the woman with an oblivious expression. Lucas didn't react at that."You can order whatever you find fancy on the menu." Lucas kindly said to Sofia, who was looking rather awkward.Andrew looked at the two and just shook his head, pretending to be innocent. Lucas threw him a glance, making Andrew almost jumped from his seat. However, the man just continued to put on the same oblivious expression as if he didn't know anything.Lucas also found it hard to understand what Andrew was thinking."Alright. Thank you." Sofia said softly, glancing at Lucas before returning her attention to the menu in her hand.Lucas was about to raise his hand and called the waitress when Andrew suddenly spoke. "Savannah, and isn't this Janette? It's a coincidence to meet the two of you here. How about we have lunch at the same table?"L
