Chapter 29.

“I love you” I whisper

“I love you too” he says and let’s go of me from his embrace

“As a friend I mean” I mutter and he smiles.

“As a friend, dear Anastasia” he tells me and I smile.

I head into the kitchen to arrange the groceries and just tidy up, after all, it was the least I could do after being so shitty to everyone.

The bag of groceries I kept on the counter was still lying there, untouched. And I decide to place all the groceries where they belonged in the fridge.

“All you need to do is exist, Anastasia, don’t burn your beautiful black skin with hot water. Hell, there was steam coming through the corridors”.

I turn around and hear Jim say behind me.

“It was you” I smile

“It was his voice” my mind reminds me since I was too caught up that I couldn’t recognize the voice

“Thank you” I add, he smiles and walks away.

My insides dance with joy, realizing that I’m on good terms with everyone, except Jim.

I finish up from the kitchen and head into my room.

I lay on my bed and disconne
