The following day I woke up to Crimson's smiling face. She picked me up from my cot and changed me into another new dress she had ready for me. Part of me was starting to feel like I was her own personal dress-up doll.

When we left my room, Crimson took me down a new corridor. This one took us outside the cave. Because of how bright it was inside the cave, my eyes didn't need to adjust to the bright outside.

As I looked around, I saw the area outside was a large training area built onto a large ledge on the side of a mountain and in the middle of it were Walter and Tom, 'Wow! I didn't realise the cave was in a mountain! From what I can see, we're pretty high up too!'

Crimson raised her hand in front of her, and as she did, I saw a yellow aura emit from her hand, and then a wooden chair materialise out of thin air. She then sat down and watched the two of them train, 'So I was right. She can use magic, and it wasn't just my imagination!'

As I sat in awe of Crimson's skills in magic, I couldn't help but overhear Walter talking, "You have to focus on feeling the energy in your body. First, you must feel its fundamental difference from your mana, separate it, and make it bend to your will and change. Then, once you can feel the energy flowing through your body, focus on it and force it outward, allowing it to swallow your body."

Tom nodded and then closed his eyes. While his eyes were closed, I could feel some weird energy in the air coming from Tom. I saw a faint yellow aura forming around him briefly as I watched. Then, as quickly as I saw it, it was gone, and Tom's face looked red and exhausted.

Tom lowered his head and stared at the ground with a disappointed face, "I'm sorry, Father, I wasn't able to do it still..."

Walter pulled a faint grin at Tom, "It's fine. Most children aren't able to understand how to change forms until they're at least seven, and then it takes them a further 3 years to fully mTom it, so you're making good progress." Walter's words brightened Tom's expression, and he became his usual cheery self again.

I started to think about what they were talking about, 'Were they practising magic? But Walter said something about changing forms... I wonder if I'm able to do that?'

I closed my eyes and started doing everything I heard Walter explain to Tom. As I focused, I could feel a strange energy flowing through my body, just like he mentioned.

I focused on the energy harder, and I could feel it starting to change and separate into two new energies. Then, as I focused on both of them, one began to expand almost on its own.

As I practised, Walter could feel my energy in the air. He looked over at me and saw a firey magenta aura forming around me. Seeing it, he immediately started walking over to us while Tom was still completely focused on his practice.

As I felt the energy start to overtake my body, it gave me an anxious feeling, so I stopped. When I opened my eyes, Walter was standing in front of me. Both he and Crimson were staring at me, 'What? Did I do something wrong?'

Walter and Crimson's faces both looked shocked while staring at me. Then, Walter's shocked expression slowly changed into a pleased smile, "It appears our daughter is more talented than I had ever imagined, she's only two days old, and she's partly changed forms already! This has never happened in all history as far as I know!"

Crimson smiled long with Walter, "Yes, it's incredible that she's already managed to form scales; it took Dan years of training to achieve this level of transformation!"

I couldn't help but feel shocked by what she said, 'Wait, I actually managed to transform?! And did she say I grew scales?!' As I touched my face, I could feel the scales covering me.

Crimson lifted her hand in front of her and materialised a strange sphere with a circular hole in its face with a yellow line going around it, starting and ending at the hole, "I believe we should make a memory crystal of this moment!"

Walter smiled even brighter at her suggestion, "Yes, I believe that's a great idea!" Walter then stood beside us, and as he did, the sphere took a slightly different position in front of us and started to emit a glow from the yellow line and the hole. After a couple of seconds, it stopped and then rotated its face towards the sky. As it did, a yellow crystal rose out of the hole.

Walter grabbed the crystal, and the sphere dematerialised. He then handed it to Crimson. As she inspected it, the crystal made an image appear above it, just like a hologram.

As I looked closer at the image, I could see it was a photo of the three of us, 'So that's what I look like? It's my first time seeing what I look like in this world. I'm actually a cute baby! And my scales look mesmerising! The magenta hue colour on them looks so captivating!'

While I was distracted, my scales started disappearing, and I returned to normal. After that day, Walter began to pay twice as much attention to me. Every day, I could see him staring at me while waiting to see if I did something else.

One day while everyone was eating and Crimson was feeding me some terrible-tasting baby dragon food, I couldn't help but notice Walter staring at me from the corner of my eye, 'Uhhh... Seriously, how long are you going to stare at me?! It's already been a week, and you won't stop! If you keep staring at me like that while I eat, I'll get indigestion!'

When I looked over at Walter so I could give him an angry glare, our eyes met, which caused his serious expression to turn to a smile, "Seems our daughter is interested in her Father today!"

Crimson smiled at Walter, "Yes, since you started paying more attention to her, she seems to have grown more attached to you!"

Crimson's words irk me slightly, 'Attached?! I just wanted him to stop staring at me! I'm not attacked to him at all!'

Walter chuckled lightly, "I'm glad our daughter seems to like me so much."

Crimson's face lit up as she had an idea, "Walter, why don't you spend the day with Sash!" her suggestion surprised me. I try to voice my displeasure, but I'm still only a week old, "Ahhh?! A bah ba ah ba!" 'I don't want to spend the day with him! He's not interesting at all and kinda scary!'

Walter's face had a beaming smile at hearing her idea, "That sounds like an excellent idea. I'll take her out to the markets in the lower town."

Crimson's smile became overwritten with concern at the sound of Walter's plans, "Umm... Walter, don't you think she's too young to go around the markets? She's not even ten days old yet..."

I nodded in agreement with Crimson, 'I agree. I'm still too small to be going around a place like that, too many unsavoury characters in places like that.'

Walter looked at Crimson in pure confusion, "Do you think so? What would you suggest then?" Crimson stopped and thought for a second, "Why don't you take her to the top of the mountain and share the view together?"

My face turned white at her suggestion, 'That's even worse than his suggestion! You can't take a baby to the top of a mountain!'

Walter agreed with Crimson's suggestion, "Yes, that's a much better idea than mine. The view from atop the mountain is excellent."

As I listened to them talk, I could feel my soul leaving my body at the idea of what was to come, 'How long can I survive with parents like this...'

The next day Crimson handed me over to Walter, and we set off outside the mountain. When we got outside, I couldn't help but look up to see how high the mountain was.

When I looked up, it felt like the mountain had no end. The peak of it was so high that it pierced the clouds and wasn't even visible, 'You seriously want to take me to the top of a mountain that you can't even see the top of!'

Walter looked down at me in his arms; he could see I was nervous, "There's no need to worry. I won't let you go."

For some reason, his words filled me with an unfamiliar comfort, 'Why did his words make me feel so calm? Is this what it feels like to know someone truly cares for you?'

Walter arched forward slightly, and as he did, a pair of giant wings sprouted from his back. When I saw them, my eyes nearly popped out at the shock of it, 'What the hell! I didn't know he could grow massive wings!' Then, when they fully emerged, he did one big beat of his wings and shot us into the air.

Completely terrified, I closed my eyes, and after a couple of seconds, I felt us slow down and land. When I felt us touch the ground, I peeked out slightly, and when I did, I saw we were atop the mountain already.

As I opened my eyes fully, I looked out to the horizon. All I could see were a sea of bright fluffy clouds bathed in a warm glow of sunlight.

The view somewhat reminded me of my previous life of the time I once travelled on a plane, the sight of being above the clouds back then was amazing, but compared to this, it was insignificant.

Walter looked down at me and saw my amazed expression. Seeing my face made him have a warm smile, "One day, you'll be able to fly out over the clouds on your own."

As he said that, I couldn't help but look up at him and smile happily, 'I guess you're not as scary as I thought.'

After a few minutes of watching the view, Walter smiled at me again, "It's about time we head back down." as he said that, he stepped off the edge of the mountain and plummeted us towards the ground and high speed.

I couldn't help but scream, which as a baby, sounded more like a cry, "Ahhhhh!" 'I take back everything I said about you, and you're not scary; you're insane!'

Before we reached the ground, Walter spread his wings to slow us down and landed gently. After we landed, I could feel my soul slipping away from the terror I had just experienced.

A month passed, and eventually, I was able to start sitting up on my own for the first time, 'I finally did it! I didn't realise how much I missed being able to sit!' just after I managed to sit up, Crimson came into the room and saw me. She quickly became ecstatic, 'Is she really that happy to see me sitting up on my own?' Before I had any time to react, she materialised another one of those floating spheres and quickly made a memory crystal of me sitting up for the first time. I couldn't help but feel exhausted at her boundless energy and excitement, 'She's doing it again... She creates one of those magic pictures anytime she sees me doing something cute or new, and I'm getting tired of it... She's just too excitable...' Crimson took the crystal from the sphere, and as quickly as she entered, she ran out of the room and down the hall with a massive smile on her face, presumable to Walter, to show off the new crystal. I sighed rather heavily from feeling exhausted, 'I know I alway

The months started to pass me by within the blink of an eye, and before I knew it, I was already three months old. Since seeing my dragon form, Walter had personally started teaching me in the living room to control and practice changing forms nearly every day. Every time he trained me, he made me change into my form as fast as possible. With his training, I could start changing within a couple of seconds because of how often I practice. After I could begin to change within ten seconds, he started taking me to the training area and teaching me how to fly, and he gave me my first flying lesson only yesterday. The next day, Walter came into my room and changed me out of my night dress. After he did, he carried me out of my room and down the hall, "Today, Sash, I'm going to try and teach you how to fly again." He took me outside to the training area and placed me in the centre of the arena, "Ok, Sash, today I'm going to show you how to effectively use your wings!" I couldn't help but

A few months later, I was startled awake by the sound of heavy foot traffic coming from outside my room, 'What the hell's going on out there?!' Before I could guess what was happening outside, three maids rushed into my room. Two of them went to my closet and jewellery case and started going through my dresses and accessories, while the other came over to me and picked me up. My head was starting to spin from everything, 'Why are these maids in my room?!? Normally, Crimson's the one who comes and picks me up!' When the maid saw I was looking confused and concerned, she said to me, "Please don't worry, young Miss, the Duchess is busy setting up for today's ball, so she didn't have time to prepare to collect you herself." Her words caught me off guard, 'She's busy with a ball? She's always put off all her work to spend time with me in the past. So this must be for something important.' The two maids picked out a matching dress and accessory for me while the maid carrying me changed

The following day I was sitting on Walter's lap while he was reading documents in his office. While going through them, he paused when he saw a letter with a gold seal. Walter carefully opened the letter, and after he finished reading it, he rang a small bell on his desk, and a butler came into the room, "Yes, sir?" "Please inform the Duchess to bring Tom and Dan to the living room and wait for me. I have an important announcement." "Right away, sir." The butler exited the room, and Walter lifted me up and carried me out of the room with him. After a couple of minutes, we arrived at the living room, where Walter sat down, put me back on his lap, and waited for Crimson and my brothers to arrive. We didn't have to wait long for them to arrive. The three of them entered the room after just a minute of waiting. They all took a seat in front of where Walter was sitting and waited for him to talk. Taking a deep breath, Walter looked out at them, "I've received a letter from the king sum

With how late it was, we all rested for the rest of the day. The next day Walter left early in the morning with a guard for his audience with the king. The guard escorted him straight to the king's throne room. When there, the guards in front opened the doors and allowed him inside. Walking into the throne room, Walter knelt before the king with his head bowed. The king smiled at Walter, "There's no need for formalities between us; feel free to be informal with me." Walter got to his feet and thanked the king, "Thank you for your consideration, your Majesty, but respectfully, I would prefer to show proper respect to you." "Very well, I won't force you to do something you're uncomfortable with. Now, let's get to the matter I summoned you for. You may have guessed already, but I called you here about your brother, Peter Hastus." "May I ask what my brother has done, your Majesty?" "It saddens me to say this, but he committed high treason." Walter was shocked by what he heard, with a

A few months later, I was woken up by Crimson's voice, "Sash, you have to wake up! Don't you know what day it is? You can't sleep in today of all days!" I tried to ignore Crimson as best I could and pulled my blanket over my head, 'I don't care what day it is... I just want to sleep, so leave me alone! I'm trying to be depressed still...' Crimson pulled an exhausted face, "Sash, you remember it's your first birthday today, right? Don't forget you have your birthday party later today, and everyone will be there!" I didn't budge and kept trying to sleep, but Crimson didn't give up, "I guess you won't want all the presents everyone will be bringing with them. What a shame... I guess we'll have to give them away..." Hearing her say that, I couldn't stay still anymore. So I sprang out from under my blanket, giving Crimson a big smile, "Mommy!" Crimson couldn't hold back her laughter at my reaction, "Don't you wanna keep sleeping?" I shook my head while responding to her question, "Now

Later that day, Crimson took me back to my room to prepare me for the party. She changed my dress to one of the more fancy ones she kept hidden away for special occasions like today. But, despite putting me in one of her favourite dresses for me, Crimson still seemed upset by what happened with Dan earlier. 'That misunderstanding with Dan really has her upset still. Not even my adorable face is working to fix her anymore. All I can do is hope that the party can cheer her up. But just in case, I should keep trying to force my cuteness on her!' While Crimson was carrying me to put me in my pushchair, I could see how sad she was by the look on her face. So I decided to give cheering her up one last try before we left for the party. Before she put me down, I pulled myself up a little higher towards her face and kissed her cheek. After I did, she looked at me with a surprised look. Then, I simply gave her another big smile, "Love, yow!" Crimson finally smiled again with a slight chuckle

Walter just about managed to push his shock aside to ask her, "What's got you so excited?!" Crimson's face was beaming with excitement, "Sash got an invitation to go on a play date from Lady Clair Kalious!" "The Barons Daughter? Why would Sash receive an invitation from the Kalious family?" "We met at Sash's party the other day. She has a two-year-old daughter that I think would make the perfect friend for Sash, and Lady Kalious agreed with me, not to mention that Sash seems to really like her!" After the guard left, the king looked at Terry and me, "You should bring her up here and let her rest on the crown princess's throne." Terry looked at the king, surprised, "Are you sure, your majesty?" "Of course I am. My son has troubled her greatly. It's the least I can do." Terry then made his way up the stairs and placed me down on the throne beside the king. Once I was sat down, I said to the king, "Thank you." After an hour, the guard returned with two other guards dragging Larry by the arms, wearing special shackles that prevented him from using mana, casting spells, or changing forms. The two guards dragged Larry up to the king and dropped him to his knees. Larry looked up at the king and asked, "Father, what's the meaning of this?!" Without realising it, Larry's eyes were still in their pink state for the king to see, "I can see you actually had pink eyes this whole time." Larry then realised his mistake, "That's beside the point! Why have you ordered your guards to put

Over the next month, the guards set up the barrier like Larry told them to, which kept me from collecting the mana in the air. Finally, after that month was over, it came that time when Larry would normally give me some small amount of food. One of the guards in front of my cell received a call from Larry. When he finished talking, he turned to me and said, "His Highness said he won't be able to make it until later today, and because of your previous attempt to escape, he won't be bringing you this month's ration." I let out an amused huff, "He barely feeds me already. So why do I care if he misses one?" The guard didn't respond and turned back around to continue standing guard. Finally, after a few hours, it came time for the guards to change, but no one came in to relieve the current guard. After a few minutes of waiting, the guards in front of my cell became restless, "The next shift should be here by now. Those two in the evening shift are normally more punctual than this." "J

You really think I'll cave after a month?" Larry smiled at me, "I have to admit, I do admire your spirit. I think you've earned this much, at least." he ripped the bread in half and threw one of the halves into my cell at my feet, "I'll give you the other half next month." He then left the cave. I reached over, picked up the piece of bread he gave me, and took a small bite out of it, 'Tastes awful, but it's better than nothing. But I should ration it for the next month.' After taking just one bite, I put the bread down beside me and started practising my mana control, 'He said I can't use my mana, but what about the mana in the air?' Concentrating, I was able to see the faint gl

I was inside a cell built into the corner of a cave with guards standing just outside the door to the cell. Feeling groggy along with a headache, I took off my wig and mask and threw them on the ground, "What the hell happened? Where am I?" "You always ask a lot of questions, don't you?" I looked over to my left and saw the man in the crow mask standing outside the side of my cell, "Who are you? Are you the bastard that kidnapped my child?!" The man smiled as he took a few steps to the side, allowing me to see the rest of the cave. As I looked behind him, I saw a pedestal in the middle of the room with my egg on it, "My egg! While we were still in Walter's office, I asked him, "Can we cast disguise spells on ourselves before we go to the masquerade?" "Spells like that will be broken the moment you walk into the castle. You'll have to wear a wig to hide your hair, but I'm not sure how we'll hide your eyes. Terry doesn't need to change his since magenta eyes are still relatively common among nobles, but pink eyes are rare enough that dragons will know any noble with them." "I can just change the colour of my eyes." "That won't work. Like I told you, spells like that will be broken when you walk into the castle." "Dad, I can change the colour of my eyes through my own will." Walter looked at me, confused, "What?" I leaned in towards Walter as I slowly changed my eye colour to grey, "I can change my eyes to resemble that of any natural dragon eye colour." "And this isn't a spell?" "No, it's one of a pink eye dragon's abilities, but it's apparently kept secret." "I can understand why. An ability like

While Terry and I were looking through documents in his office, I finished reading the one I had and threw it on the desk, "Nothing! I can't find a single thing that can help us!" "Sash, please, we'll find something. It'll just take time." "Terry, it's been nearly two months since our egg was taken from us. I want to get it back." "I do too, but we have time. The child won't hatch for nearly five years. So we have all that time to search." "From what I've seen, we're not even close. It's obvious after looking through all this these families didn't do it!" "Then we start again and look for something else to help us." "And how long will that take? I don't want to leave our child's life up to some ruthless bastards who stole it!" "Late in the evening yesterday, our estate was attacked, and our egg was kidnapped. Not being able to deal with it, Sash's shut down and hasn't said a word since yesterday." "I'll be there as fast as I can." After a while, Dan arrived at the estate, and Terry escorted him to our bedroom as he told him, "Like I told you, she's completely shut down and unresponsive." "If I'm being perfectly honest, I can't blame her. I wouldn't take it well if my children were kidnapped." When they entered the room, Dan walked over to me and started to check my state, "Sash, can you hear me?" I didn't respond or open my eyes. I was too emotional to talk at this point, so Terry reached into his pocket, gave me his handkerchief and then got to his feet, "I'll be back soon..." Terry then left me to calm down in the living room while he went upstairs to the incubation room. He looked around the room and couldn't find anything, only some scratches on the floor from where they had placed something heavy down, "Looks like I was right. They were smart enough to bring a transport box for the egg to keep it warm." He then went out of the room and checked on the guards. Unfortunately, they were all severely knocked out and
