“Wake up, bitch,” a voice whispers in my ear.
My eyes flutter open, and I feel something sharp at my neck.
“What the fu…,” I start to say, but a hand covers my mouth.
“Say another word, and you’re dead. Got it?” the voice warns.
I nod as my eyes adjust to the dark, and I realize Catherine’s face is only inches away from mine.
“My dad is being banished because of you,” she spits, the anger in her voice like venom.
‘Shift, Athena,’ Enyo growls.
‘Not yet,’ I tell her.
“I’m going to kill you for what you’ve done to my family,” she whispers as she trails a knife down my throat. I try not to make a sound as wolfsbane burns my skin anywhere the blade touches. “But first, I’m going to make you suffer.”
A sick smile forms on her face as she cuts my arm, and I gasp in pain as wolfsbane enters my system, the burning sensation is excruciating. She cuts me again, but this time on my stomach, and I try not to scream as tears fill my eyes.
“Look at you writhe in pain. The big, tough chosen one can’t even handle a little wolfsbane,” she snorts as she cuts my leg.
A low, deep growl escapes my throat, and I feel Enyo come forward, her eyes casting a blue glow over the dark room. “You’re going to regret this,” she snarls.
“I told you to keep your mouth shut,” Catherine growls, and slaps me hard across the face. She brings the knife to my eye, pressing its tip against my lower lid.
“I’m going to rip your throat out,” Enyo growls.
“You’re not going to do anything. Do you feel a difference in the wolfsbane? It’s a special blend, the same one used on your father,” Catherine smirks.
My body stiffens as I process her words. The same wolfsbane used on my father. “How do you have the same wolfsbane that was used on my father?” I ask, trying not to panic.
“My father wasn’t the only one working with the Doc, bitch. And now, you can meet your father in hell.”
Enyo tries to take over and force the shift, but she’s too weak. We can’t shift. Just like Daddy and Alpha Niko couldn’t.
Catherine climbs on top of me, her knees digging into my arms to hold me in place. Then she moves the knife up to my eyebrow and presses down. I close my eyes as she glides the blade down over my right eye and I feel blood flow down my temple. I scream in pain, and I try to push her off me, but my entire body feels heavy, as if I’m being held down by more than just Catherines’ weight. I look up at Catherine, my vision filled with blood, and her face is twisted with hate and anger.
She raises the large knife above her head. A sob escapes my throat as prepare for her to stab me.
This is it. I’m going to die.
I feel her move, but before she can plunge the knife into my chest, a giant wolf crashes through my bedroom window.
“GET OUT!” she screams, jumping off me and waving the knife at the wolf.
He’s pure white; the colour of fresh snow. His eyes glow a bright green, and the smell of butterscotch fills the room.
‘Mate,’ Enyo says weakly.
All I can do is watch as Catherine tries to attack my mate. She tries to slash him with the knife, but he’s too quick for her and dodges her attacks. He gets low to the ground and growls deeply at her. It’s then that I see the black crescent moon on his forehead.
“ABOMINATION!” she screams and lunges at him. He bites down hard on her wrist, and she drops the knife with a scream.
I try to move, but all I can move is my arm. I try to wipe the blood from my eye, but the pain causes me to scream again, accidentally distracting my mate. Catherine pulls her arm from his mouth and shifts, then bites him hard on the neck. He yelps as she tries to get her jaw around his throat, but he’s too big, and he knocks her to the ground. He places an enormous paw on her throat to keep her down as my bedroom door bursts open and Carol, Jason, and his mate run into the room. Jason and his mate shift, growling at my mate as they see him holding down Catherine.
“No! Please!” I yell weakly, trying to sit up. “He’s trying to help!”
My mate looks at me with a look of longing and hesitation in his eyes, and then at Jason. Before Jason or his mate can do anything, my mate quickly jumps back through the broken window.
Jason shifts back and runs to Catherine’s side. “What the fuck happened here, Athena?!” He yells.
Carol turns on the light in the room, and Jason gasps when he sees my face.
“She attacked me,” I say weakly as the room spins and everything fades to black.

“She’s lucky she didn’t lose her eye. But she’s going to be permanently scarred because of the wolfsbane.”
Who is that?
“Do you think she’s lost her eyesight?”
Is that Jason? Goddess, my head hurts. I try to raise my hand to my head, but everything feels numb.
“We won’t know until she wakes up. Even though it was her right eye that was cut with the knife dipped in wolfsbane, when it bled, it went into her left eye. It’s possible the wolfsbane damaged that eye as well.”
Um, hello. I’m awake, I groan.
“Athena?”
Uncle Alex?
“Athena, can you hear us?”
I groan again as I feel someone holding my hand. My whole-body hurts. I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck.
“Miss Argos, your right eyes bandaged. Can you open your left eye?”
I try to open my eye, but I groan from the bright light above me and quickly close it again.
I hear a sob next to me. “Athena, it’s Mom. Please open your eye, sweetheart.”
I turn my head towards her and slowly open my eyes. “Owww,” I say groggily, trying to focus on Mom.
“Oh, sweetheart! You scared me half to death,” she sobs again.
“Miss Argos, please look at me and try to follow the light,” the unknown voice tells me.
I turn my head, and a bright light shines in my eye. I try to follow it, but my vision is blurred, and it hurts, so I close my eyes again.
“Can you see the light, Athena?” Uncle Alex asks.
I nod my head. “Uncle Alex?”
“It’s me, Athena,” he says and rubs my leg reassuringly.
I open my eye again, trying to focus on his face. “Everything is blurry,” I say as I gently touch the bandage covering my right eye.
“Your eyes need to heal, Miss Argos. We’re not sure yet what permanent damage has been caused by the wolfsbane on the knife.”
“Who are you?” I ask the stranger.
“I’m the other pack doctor. Well, the only pack doctor now. I’m Doctor Connors,” she introduces herself.
“Can I have some water?” I ask as I try to sit up.
“Here, let me help.” Mom presses a button on the side of the bed, and it slowly lifts my head up.
“How long have I been out?” I ask.
“About ten hours,” Jason answers, and I find him standing at the end of the bed.
“Where’s Catherine?” I ask.
He pours me a glass of water and hands it to me. “She’s in the cells. Alpha Peter is questioning her,” he says.
“He needs to be questioning Doctor Shields again. Catherine used the same wolfsbane that killed my father. Shields gave it to her,” I whisper.
“WHAT!” Uncle Alex erupts.
All I can do is nod as I take a small mouthful of water, trying to stop the tears threatening to fall.
“I’M GOING TO KILL HIM!” Uncle Alex screams and goes to leave the room.
“Stand down, Gamma,” Jason says to him as he places a hand on Uncle Alex’s shoulder.
“I WILL NOT STAND DOWN! THAT FUCKER IS INVOLVED IN MY BEST FRIEND’S DEATH! I WILL HAVE HIS HEAD!”
“AND HE WAS INVOLVED IN MY FATHER’S DEATH! THIS IS OUR TERRITORY, GAMMA! STAND DOWN OR LEAVE!” Jason stands in front of Uncle Alex, both men breathing heavily.
After a moment, Uncle Alex takes a step back and nods, returning his attention to me.
“What are you talking about? What wolfsbane?” Doctor Connors asks, confused.
“The wolfsbane that was used in the attack against us,” Jason tells her, and she gasps.
“Aconitum Anthora… That explains why she’s taking so long to heal. She should be dead…” Doctor Connors trails off.
“You know what it’s called?” Uncle Alex asks.
Doctor Connors nods her head. “I studied it after the attack. It’s rare. I had a lot of trouble even studying it because I had nothing to compare it with. I shared everything I could about it with the Elder council, and they were stunned that it was used, considering they banned it about a century ago. It was all supposed to be destroyed.”
“How the hell did Shields get a hold of it then?” Mom asks.
“They didn’t know,” Doctors Conners answers.
“It can’t be a coincidence that it was used in our attack as well. Shields had to be a part of it,” Uncle Alex says angrily.
“Is there anything I can get you, Athena?” Mom asks.
“Mate,” Enyo comes forward and says groggily, “Where’s my mate?” She asks.
“Mate?” Mom and Uncle Alex ask in unison. “Who’s your mate?” Uncle Alex asks.
“He came through the window and stopped Catherine from killing us,” she tells them.
“That was your mate?” Jason asks, a look of bewilderment on his face.
Enyo nods, then I feel her retreat, curl up, and go back to sleep.
“We recognized his scent. It was the same one at the edge of the territory when Nick and I went for a run,” I tell him. “The one we told Alpha Peter about after he questioned the doctor.”
“No one knows who he is. We’ve never seen him before, and we don’t recognize his scent. We have no idea why he is in our territory,” Jason explains to mum and Uncle Alex. “We’ve had patrols out all night looking for him, but we’ve found nothing so far,” he explains to me.
I yawn, feeling groggy again. “I think I’m going to go back to sleep,” I say, unable to stay awake any longer.
Andreas P.O.V “Goddess, he’s a heavy bastard,” I say, straining to get the doctor into the back of the small car. “I’ll give you a hand,” my best friend, Noah, says as he opens the passenger door on the driver’s side to pull the doctor in from the other side. After a few moments, we finally get the doctor in the back of Noah’s car, and I double-check the ropes around his wrists and ankles to ensure he’s secure. Closing the doors, I get into the passenger’s side, and Noah gets behind the wheel. “So, Blood-Moon territory?” Noah asks as he starts his car. He goes to turn his headlights on, but I put my hand on his arm to stop him. “No lights yet,” I say. “Yeah, head toward Blood-Moon. They’ll let us know later where they want us to take him.” Noah pulls onto the road from where I met him on the outskirts of the Moonstone territory, and I stay alert, adrenaline keeping me going as I keep an eye out for anyone who may have followed me. After half an hour, I’m happy that no one is fo
Hey everyone. I would like to thank you all for making it this far with me and adding my story to your collection. I am really enjoying how Athena and Enyos story is unfolding, and I hope you do too. We're in for a bumpy ride in the next couple of chapters, with events that I think are going to help Athena grow as a character. I would love to hear what you all think, so don't forget to leave a comment or review, or a vote if you feel so inclined :) I hope you all enjoy your weekends! Skye.
24 hours later I gaze out the window, taking in the sight of snow covering everything as far as the eye can see. I never thought I’d miss the snow, but it’s a welcome sight after a month in the desert, and I’m relieved to be home. “Athena?” Ryna says, trying to get my attention. “Hmmm?” I say absently, turning away from the window. “Your phone is ringing,” Ry tells me. “Oh!” I say, quickly grabbing it from the seat. “Hello?” I answer it, not recognizing the number. “Hey, it’s Noah. Can you put me on speaker?” He asks. I put the phone on speaker and lean forward between Ryna and Gino in the front. “Go ahead,” I say to him. “Have you noticed the black sedan behind you?” he asks. We all say “no” at the same time. “I’ve been following you for about an hour, and this sedan has been following you the entire time,” he says. “Why are you following us? Where’s Andreas?” I ask. “He’s at the warehouse with Gamma Alex. He wanted me to make sure you were okay,” Noah explains. I smile a
Andreas P.O.V I walk into the small room where Gamma Alex has Doctor Shields tied to a chair. “Has he said anything?” I ask as I look at the dishevelled doctor. “Nothing. He just sits there smiling like a madman,” Gamma Alex says. I grab the other chair in the room, place it in front of the doctor, and sit facing him. “You may as well talk to us, Doctor. Your silence won’t save your life,” I say to him. “Who are you?” Doctor Shields asks, a curious look on his face. “I’m a man who wants answers, Doctor. Why don’t you tell me who you’re working for?” I ask. “You’re one of them, aren’t you? One of the abominations?” Gamma Alex stomps over from the corner of the room and punches him in the jaw. “The only abomination in this room is you,” Gamma Alex spits out. “Now talk, you filth.” Doctor Shields spits blood on the floor, then laughs maniacally. “I’ll take that as a yes,” he says, then he spits more blood on the floor. “You have no idea the reach the people I work for have. So,
“Athena? Athena!” I hear my mom yelling at me and softly tapping my face. “Mmmm,” I mutter. “What happened?” I ask. “You fainted and fell off the stool,” she says, her voice filled with worry. I sit straight up, panicking. “Where’s my phone?” I ask, looking around the room, finding the warriors I ran with now filling the kitchen. “It’s here,” Ryna says, handing it to me. “What the hell happened, Athena?” I snatch the phone from his grasp and quickly search for the video, but the message has vanished. “They killed him!” I yell hysterically. “Who?” my mom asks, shock filling her voice. I open my call log to find the number the video came from, but the call log has been wiped. I shake uncontrollably, “ANDREAS!” I yell, tears streaming down my face again. “WHERE THE FUCK IS THE VIDEO?! WHO DELETED IT?” I cry, searching around the room for the culprit. “No one deleted anything, Athena.” Ryna crouches down in front of me and places his hands on my shoulders. “Athena, focus. What vid
I arrive at the old warehouse and park behind Noah’s car. As I step out of my truck, I feel the sun shining down on me, but there is no warmth in its rays. I wrap my arms around myself, trying to warm up, but the coldness comes from deep within. I approach Noah’s car, where Noah, Ryna, and Uncle Alex are talking. “Did you see what direction he was headed in?” Noah asks Uncle Alex. “No. But I picked up his trail heading north in that direction,” he points towards the tree line. “Where were you holding the doctor?” Ryna asks. “Come on, I’ll show you,” Uncle Alex says as he walks towards the warehouse doors, followed by Noah and Ryna. I stay back, holding my nose in the air and breathing deeply, trying to pick up any scents. I can faintly smell Andreas and follow his scent towards a small building to the right of the warehouse doors. When I walk into the small room, I find his clothes folded up on a dusty shelf, with his phone on top. My heart aches as I pick up his shirt and hold
Hey guys! Just a little note from me. From now on, when I post chapters, anything said through mind-link (the telepathic way wolves can communicate with their pack) will now be in italics. I will be going back and editing previous chapters to show these changes. I hope this will make things easier to read when there's a lot of dialogue and swapping between mind-link and normal speech. Thanks guys, for the continued support, and I hope you are enjoying Athena and Enyos' story. Please leave a like, comment, or vote if you are really enjoying it. Regards, Skye.
“YOU HAD ME WORKING WITH A FUCKING HUNTER?!” I scream at Uncle Alex. “I’m just as surprised as you are, Athena! Do you really believe I would intentionally put you in that kind of danger?” He asks. The sincerity in his voice breaks my heart and makes me feel instantly guilty. I take a deep breath and try to remain calm and rational. “I’m sorry, Uncle Alex,” I say, hugging him tightly. “There’s no way our pack has been working with a hunter for the last couple of years and no one knew,” I say, pulling away from him. “Do you remember who hired him to work with our pack?” I ask. “Alpha Damon,” he says, his eyebrows creased. “He hired him about a year before the attack on our pack,” he trails off. “You’re kidding,” Ryna says, stunned. “Who told everyone he was a private investigator?” I ask. “Alpha Damon did. He told Alpha Niko that Derek knew about our kind and that he could help us with human matters…” Uncle Alex explains. “Damon was Beta at the time so no one even thought to quest
The early morning sun peaks over the surrounding mountains, spreading its warmth over our territory, but I don’t feel it. My breath is ragged as I run hard through the forest. Low-lying branches smack my face as I go past them, but I feel nothing. My only focus is to get to the lake. The lake will calm me before this rage swallows me whole.I finally see it in the distance, the lake that Enyo and I used to soak in after practice. Back when everything was right in the world. Before Daddy was murdered. Before I knew anything about the chosen.I don’t slow as I get closer. Instead, I brace for impact as I dive towards the ice covering the body of water. Enyo’s large, heavy body breaks through, and the iced water takes my breath away as I slowly sink to the bottom. I let the freezing water cool my heated body; the rage releasing from my body and my mind slowly clearing.I can hear shouts from above the water, but I ignore them. As the rage fuelled fogginess leaves my mind, I’m hit with a
“Alpha! Alpha, can you hear me?”I groggily open my eyes and see Leah hovering over me.“Alpha, thank the Goddess,” Leah says with a heavy sigh. “Don’t move, Doc Apollo is on his way.”I grab the back of my head, and I feel that my hair is wet. I look at my hand, and it’s covered in blood.“What happened?” I ask, lifting my head slightly and looking around.“You fell down the cliff side after the rogue charged you,” she explains.I look to my left and up the cliff side. “I’ve been saying for years there needs to be a railing put up there,” I say with a groan and try to sit up.“Please don’t move, Alpha. You fell a long way.”“I see that. But I’ll be okay,” I tell her, sitting up. Then I remember the reason I was in the forest. “Where’s Catherine?” I ask, panicked.“Gamma Michael and Gamma Cole have her in custody,” she explains.“And the other rogue?”She says nothing but looks behind me. I turn and see a young boy, his neck clearly broken from the fall. “Shit,” I grumble. “How did you
“Everything looks wonderful, Melanie,” I compliment her as I look over all the decorated tables outside of the pack hall.“Thank you, Alpha,” she says happily. “I hope you like everything inside, as well.”“I know I will,” I tell her with a big smile. She smiles back and bows before heading off to attend to her duties. Andreas comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist, nestling his nose into the crook of my neck. “I can’t believe we pulled this off.”“The pack has worked hard. I’m so proud of everyone.”I see Rich and Noah in the distance, with the Cresent Warriors, and Michael and Beta Castor behind them. I take Andreas’s hand and walk over to them, wanting to keep the conversation away from others. “Still nothing?” I ask, disappointed.“I lost their scent on the other side of the mountain,” Beta Castor says with a frown.“Leah stayed at the Cabin in case she’s stupid enough to go back there,” Tony says.I nod. “We’ll pick up the search again in the morning,” I tell them.
“How is the feast coming along?” I ask Melanie, the pack’s head cook.“Everything is coming along nicely, Alpha. I’ve ensured there’s plenty of food for both packs, with extras.” She says with a proud smile.“You’ve done amazingly, Melanie. If there’s anything you need help with, please speak with Gino,” I tell her.“The Omegas are all taking care of everything, Alpha. They’ve been very helpful, as always.”“I’m proud of all of you,” I tell the rest of the Omegas and they all smile and bow their heads.“Alpha, I need a word with you,” Leah says from the kitchen door.“Of course,” I tell Leah. “Please excuse me, Melanie,” I smile at her.She bows her head and returns to her work, and I follow Leah into the dining room, where I find Rich and Noah waiting.“What can I do for our Epsilons today?” I ask with a smile.“We have a report from our border patrol, Alpha,” Rich says.“There’s been a sighting of a couple of rogues hanging around our borders,” Noah explains.I stiffen. “From the pa
Three hours laterWe watch as fight after fight ends, and the defeated warriors fill the sidelines of the training field, joining the rest of the pack in cheering and enjoying the spectacle. We watch Michael closely as he defeats opponent after opponent.“He hasn’t lost any of his strength,” Cassia says, and I think I see something flash in her eyes, but whatever she was feeling quickly disappears when she notices me staring at her.“Or his viciousness,” Ryna adds.“Nothing wrong with some viscousness in your Gamma, Beta,” Harry says.“As long as it’s towards our enemies...” Gino mumbles.I focus back on Michael as he defeats another warrior, trying to ignore the guilt I feel from Gino’s comment.“Maybe you should have just named him Gamma, Alpha,” Tony says. “He has the advantage of being a born Beta. I don’t think anyone will beat him.”“It is looking that way. But maybe that will earn him back some of the respect he lost.”“Doubtful. But we’ll see,” Ryna says.“Cole could give him
As I walk towards Ryna’s house with Andreas, I can’t help the pounding of my heart as I think of my best friend never forgiving me.I feel Andreas squeeze my hand tightly, and I give him a small smile as we climb the steps of Ryna’s small cottage. I take a breath as we approach the door and knock.Gino answers the door a few moments later, and I’m engulfed with the anger he feels as it radiates from his body.“He needs time, Alpha.” He says shortly.“I understand, Gino. But there are pack matters that need to be attended to,” Andreas says when I don’t say anything.“I will make sure that all pack matters are dealt with,” Gino responds, his glaring eyes never leaving mine.I swallow the lump in my throat and finally find the words I want to say. “I’m not here about pack business,” I say, my voice coming out as a squeak. “I came to apologize for everything that happened yesterday.”“It’s going to take more than apologies, Alpha,” Gino says angrily.“I know, but I can only start there.”
The Next DayAthena P.O.VI try to roll over, but I’m being held in place by Andreas. I kiss his arm and say, “Time to wake up, my love.”He groans and hugs me tighter. “No, thanks.”I laugh and try to roll over again. “If you squeeze me any harder, Andreas, I’m going to pee.”“Fiiiiiine.” He releases me with another groan before rolling onto his back and rubbing his eyes. “We can’t stay in bed,” I say as I get up and go into the bathroom. “We have way too much to do in the next few days. We still haven’t questioned the others we captured with Leon the other night. We have to get the pack house sorted out…”“I knooooow,” he says with another groan, cutting me off before I repeat the seemingly never-ending list of things we need to do.I giggle as I finish up and wash my hands before turning the shower on. I hear Andreas come up behind me, so I turn around and wrap my arms around his neck with a kiss.He smiles into my lips before kissing down my neck to my mark. He leaves a chaste kis
Somewhere nearby…I’m flung across the room as my connection to the Alpha is broken.“Master! Are you okay?” Alyria asks, running over and taking my arm.I look down at her bony hand on my arm, then at her. I glare at her and slap her hard across the face.“HOW DARE YOU TOUCH ME!” I bellow at her.“I’m sorry, Master.” She whimpers, holding her cheek.“GET ME THE WITCH! NOW!” I yell at her, and she gets up from the ground and scurries from the room.“What happened, Master?” Wren asks from the corner of the room.“Her wolf broke the connection,” I explain angrily, standing and brushing off my clothes.“How? I thought the witch said she’d be locked away in the Alpha’s mind?”“I don’t know!” I yell at him, and he shrinks back in fear.“You called for me, Sir?” the witch, Elizabeth asks as she enters my office.I stalk toward her angrily. “You told me the wolf would be locked away in the Alpha’s mind. So would you care to explain to me how the wolf was able to break my connection to the Al
“MURDERER!” someone screams, and everyone falls silent, turning to where the scream came from. “Karla,” I whisper, my body suddenly shaking. She looks weak and sickly, her eyes red from crying. “WHY DID YOU KILL HIM?” she screams again, and I see Cassia running towards her. “Karla, why don’t we go back inside?” Cassia says softly, taking her arm. “DON’T TOUCH ME!” Karla shouts, pulling her arm out of Cassia’s grasp. “I WANT TO KNOW WHY SHE KILLED MY MATE!” The pack members begin whispering and pulling their kids behind them. “Karla, please, why don’t we go inside so we can discuss this,” Andreas says, taking a step towards her. He takes my hand to walk with him, but my feet won’t move. I’m frozen in place. No words are forming in my mind as I stare at the woman whose mate I killed with my bare hands. “Athena?” He says, looking back at me. “I… I…” I stutter out, but nothing else comes. “ANSWER ME, YOU FILTH!” Karla spits out, and Enyo growls. There are gasps and more whispers
