Dragomir stretched out his hand and snapped his fingers directly above the pile of woods and dead leaves, fire enveloped it immediately, “I still got it”, he yelled.

They were currently in the woods, they sat around the blazing fire. They had managed to narrowly escape the library without drawing the attention of the love birds or as he liked to put it, lust birds. They had spent the night and the following day in their beds asleep and only decided to come out now.

Raisel stared on at the fire in disbelief, “There’s no getting used to that, to the fact that you are dragon or to any of this at all”

“Tune it a notch down Raisel, I feel like we deserve a break”

“That’s the problem we don’t, we just came back from Islandia and all we did was rest…”, she argued.

“Along the line, we did find out the heart of magic's former abode before it went missing”, Dragomir interjected.

“That is inconsequential to our quest”

“Not entirely inconsequential”, Dragomir replied, “It did help us elimin

Votigern and his men rode into the kingdom of Avalon, making a dust trail as they rode in numbers. People scampered away like rabbits at the sight of them. Votigern inhaled deeply, he liked the smell of fear, especially if it was his orchestration. Votigern rode in front leading his 20-man army. He raised his hand and they all drew to an abrupt halt. “Do we stop here master?”, Cillin asked. Votigern shot him a deadly glare, “No fool! Keep riding, ride through their houses and on their roofs if you deem fit”, he shook his head in disbelief before alighting from his very large horse. He stood silently staring off into nothing. The wind rippled through his large black coat and hair. He finally turned to the men and gestured for them to come forward, “Get the weapons” Not long after, the clanging noise of the weapon was the only noise around…” Someone tapped him on the shoulder, he turned to see Nero, one of his trusted allies and fiercest warrior. “What do we seek here in Avalon Lo

They arrived at the docks, there were three ships and a couple of boats tied to the docks, people hovered about, well-dressed, obviously travellers. They were also dressed well, Dragomir was happy because they had picked his favourite persona. They were travelling as a rich couple. Raisel had explained they needed to deflect whatever attraction to them whatsoever, they could not afford unnecessary attention and they were bound to get unnecessary attention if they showed up, him dressed in sleeveless leather cloth, snug fitting pants with boots, a sword carved by a dragon slung at his back and her dressed in a leather ensemble, knives visibly tucked everywhere, her sword hanging on her side. They had advertently chosen the normal couple, it was one disguise they seemed to pull off well. They could not travel with weapons but Raisel on insistence had packed her knives, alongside other essentials. They couldn’t tell how long they'd be gone before they reached the mount isles but on esti

  • A DRAGON TALE    Ahoy matey!

Allerick and his men rode through the town of Carran, “We will stop by the Vanor mansion for a few days. We will be able to feed our horses and rest properly”, he announced. When they got to the high towering mansion, they rode in and were given the much-needed attention and Allerick couldn’t be more glad that he was treated like a Prince again. It was towards evening after a well-deserved rest and food, clothed in a white silk robe did he finally see Count Simon Vanor. Simon strolled in leisurely, “Prince” Allerick turned around, “Count” They burst into laughter and enveloped each other in a hug. “Brother”, Allerick called Simon. They had been friends since childhood. Allerick had spent most of his formative years at the Vanor mansion. “What brings you here Allerick?” “A very long story Simon, you could say adventure?” Simon stared at him in wonder, “If I didn’t know you I’d have believed you” Allerick chuckled, “How are things with you, Simon?” “Oh the usual, throw extrava

  • A DRAGON TALE    The Dreary Seas

Anna was onboard the black hollow, she was on her way to the coast of Phoenix to start her life afresh. She had been forced into marriage at a very young age, growing up with an abusive father and a mother who didn’t have any means of livelihood. She had been forced to accept the first suitor that came her way but there was no resting place for her because it was like running away from the pan to the fire. Her husband was every bit the man her father was, even worse. She had finally gathered the much-needed courage to walk out on the marriage while she could but the stigma had stuck and no matter the brave front she put up she could not escape it. The constant name-calling, the gossip, the accusations, the stares from everyone, some pitiful, some accusatory. They had called her accursed, rejected in her home and rejected by her husband. She had chosen to push that aside and forge ahead. She was among the people who had noticed the water dropping heavily from above their heads back in

  • A DRAGON TALE    The Sea Monster

You know all the times you spent doing absolutely nothing you could have as…” “Don’t you dare!”, she said through clenched teeth. "I was busy getting all our things in order…” “You know just focus on what this is we are doing with the boat”, he interjected. “It is called rowing, you know rowing a boat. This is a basic language skill” He flashed her a murderous glare, “You seem to be very knowledgeable about a lot of things but not how to row a boat”, he shook his head in wonder. “The only reason you are not in cold murky ocean water is because it takes two to move the boat”, she answered in a deadbeat manner. He shook his head not bothering with a response. They rowed quietly for a while, and not long after they were getting the hang of it and had managed to row through the open cave into the dreary sea. Everywhere was covered in a thick fog, and it was hard to see ahead of them, they narrowly escaped missing small rocks in the river. Then they heard a rumbling noise, at first i

  • A DRAGON TALE    Camp Gigant.

The beauty of Camp Gigant was nowhere near Islandia but it was beautiful much more than any place on earth. This wasn’t what she expected in the least, giant were supposed to be dirty and tattered creatures at least that was what the books made them out to be. There were a lot of tall trees, with different kinds of fruits. The flowers were in a variety of colours and shapes and were scattered neatly about. It just looked like a wide expanse of land, there were no buildings or tents or wood houses in view. It was like everyone just seemed to live outside. They were a lot of giants around, male and female, save for the animal skin wrap around their waist, they wore nothing else. The women had very long hair that covered each of their breasts. One noticeable feature about all of them was that unlike expected, they weren’t bald and gnarly looking, neither were they potbellied with folds of fat everywhere. They had full heads of hair, perfect facial features, pristine and defined, their

  • A DRAGON TALE    Escape Plan.

They were sitting together in a semi-circle, it was near nightfall. Everyone was focused on the challenge ahead and how to escape this night unhurt. Clark was fast asleep, snoring loudly. Everyone else was drowsy. Dragomir lazily tapped away with his fingers. Guinevere was watching an ant go by. Chloe curled her finger around her hair repeatedly. Raisel was going through her sling bag double checking continuously to see if she had missed anything. “What is the plan?”, Chloe asked breaking the silence. “The plan is simply to sneak our way out of Camp Gigant’ unnoticed by the giant and continue on with our various lives”, Dragomir explained. “What if they wake up midway and try to get us?”, Guinevere asked. “We have thought about that possibility but we are no match for the giants and we don’t have weapons”, Dragomir replied, “So we try our best not to rouse them” “Exactly, let us focus on only the possibilities today and hope we get past them unhurt and without waking them”, Raise

  • A DRAGON TALE    Mount Isles

Votigern sat on his make-believe throne, every bit the sovereign ruler he saw himself as. He was clad in a red and gold patterned robe and golden slippers. You wouldn’t have guessed he was of no royal descent. In his opinion he was way greater than all the rulers pulled together, he had lived amongst dragons, fooled them and owned the greatest stone ever. He had tasted power raw. It had made him grow from a weak and lanky man to a very strong one. There was a feast before him, but he was the only one at the head of the table, he didn’t think his men were worthy enough to sit beside him. It was a meal of lamb chop, fresh bread, berries and fine wine. It was too much for him to finish but he liked the solitude, it gave him time to think, about his future, away from all the other men that followed him, they were mediocre, men of small minds, they couldn’t possibly think like him. They couldn’t fathom what he had imagined. So you could imagine his anger when one of his lowest guards he h

  • A DRAGON TALE    CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT B

They drank a lot of rum and chatted about everything and nothing. It was far into midnight and the bar was beginning to empty out. Coal didn’t have much customers to attend to, so he was able to engage them. Coal took one long sip, “It was always about the ladies when he came here” “No definitely not”, Dragomir argued. “Of course Dragomir” Raisel took a short sip and scrunched her nose in disgust at the awful taste, “Who was it, tell me?”, she bobbed up and down in her seat like an excited school girl. “First it was Esmeray…” “Oh”, she interrupted, her face fell. “Then Raisel…” “Oh shut up Coal!" Raisel was smiling now, “Really?” Dragomir looked at her, “Why do you care so much?” She stared back at him, she couldn’t conjure up any bef

  • A DRAGON TALE     Epilogue continued: Eternal King

Raisel tossed on her bed, and then she heard it again. She got up with a start, it was still slightly dark but a horse was neighing outside. She brushed it off and went back to sleep but she heard it again but this time it was much closer to her window. It was the early hours of the morning but if a horse was outside her window she had to check it out. She grudgingly got out of bed, it was a chilly night so she slipped on a robe and walked towards her window, she peeped outside but there was no one around or even a horse around. She thought of going outside to check but she did not want to use the door for fear of waking her mother up. Since she got back her mother had insisted on spending the night in her room cuddled up with her for fear of her running off again like the last time. It had taken her a lot to convince her mother that she and found the stone and had no plans of running away without her knowledge. Her words were not enough still until she had threatened that she might

  • A DRAGON TALE    Avalon-Epilogue

As Raisel rode through the all too familiar streets, it hit her again, how could she forget? This was home, the home where she lived with her parents. Where she had made her first mistakes as a child, gotten her first scolding and grown into the strong woman that she was today. It was not the beautiful scenery that got to her, no this time it wasn’t perfection that Islandia was, the clouds were not excessively blue and did not look like soft foams that you wanted to reach out to and take a piece from, there were not much beautiful flowers and trees as the streets in Avalon assumed a more business-like front. Carriages and horses packed here and there, men were smartly dressed and attended to their different businesses. There were no dragons in all the wonderful colours you can imagine, in the most beautiful patterns, Avalon was dull and bereft of loud colours of any kind. Heavens forbid that you wear bright yellow or neon green, the fountain in the middle of the street did not have w

  • A DRAGON TALE    Votigern's Downfall.

Votigern had been travelling for days unending, his only lead to the heart of magic had blown up in his face. So he and his men had taken a well-needed rest. He had a huge party that left him dead drunk throughout the day. He slowly opened his eyes, he had a banging headache. He slowly walked towards the door and opened it, a guard was stationed outside, “Send my food in…with a woman of course” He nodded, “Yes sire” He slumped on the bed, and not long after there was a short knock on the door, “Come on in” “Good morning Lord Votigern”, a lady's voice greeted him. He merely grumbled his greetings. She set the tray of food on the table and walked up to him, “What do you want my Lord?” He thought about it for a while, then he turned to look at her, his eyes unashamedly travelling through the full length of her body. By his standards, she was a beautiful woman. Long brown hair, a petite face and a curvy body accentuated by the tight-fitting dress she wore and extremely tight corsets

  • A DRAGON TALE    The Heart of Magic

They rode for hours unending, stopping at intervals for a short break. It was almost sunset when they arrived at the heart of the earth, the original location of Islandia where the portal once opened. They stopped their horses and got down from them. Raisel reached for the box, it was slightly heavy, she handed it to Dragomir, “I believe this belongs to you” He hesitated, “Raisel…” She shook her head, “No Dragomir, this is not debatable. This rightfully belongs to dragons, this belongs to you…”, she smiled, “And what will I do with this after all?”, she asked, “It will only put a target on my back, I do not know where or how to keep it safe…” He nodded, “Thank you Raisel, thank you so very much. I could not have done this without you” Her eyes glistened with tears, “We make quite a good team”, she smiled through the tears. And more, he said to himself. She reached for his face and cupped it, “It is time Dragomir, you did it, it is time. Time for you to do what you have promised

  • A DRAGON TALE    Allerick's Return

Allerick rode into Avalon, the royal guards beside him. As soon as he entered the royal courtyard word spread around that he was back. He walked head-on to the throne room, he ignored the greetings on the way like he had not seen them. He was in an awful mood and the reason was clear. He got to the large doors, and the courtier stationed outside quickly acknowledged him, “Your Highness” Allerick did not bother with a reply, he stood still, his hands to his back. After a while, he turned to the man, “Can I see my father Stefan? Or do I have to force the doors open myself?” Stefan bowed immediately, “My apologies your Highness”, he opened the doors, “Prince Allerick, son of King Aldrich, heir to the throne of Avalon is entering the thro… Allerick walked in before he finished. Trent and the other men trailed behind him. His father and grandmother sat around a large table, there were two people with them, and he recognized them as ministers. Aldrich saw him first, his eyes lit up when

  • A DRAGON TALE    Deleria

They slowly rode into the deserted streets of Deleria. They stayed quiet for a moment observing the area. Save for the constant chirping of birds and crowing of roosters it was eerily quiet. There was no sign of human existence. “You know I was thinking”, Raisel said. “Tell me…” “The phrases, the clues we gathered…”, she trailed off, her mind preoccupied, “The clues were talking about Deleria, this is the kingdom that has lost its glory…” “….but will rise again”, Dragomir finished. They rode through the streets but there was still no sign of life. Save for the items outside the beatdown houses that humans used. “Do you think our choice of clothing has chased them inside?” He thought about it only for a while, “Yes they live in fear. Two people in leather and swords are bound to terrify them…” She nodded, “I never really thought about how or where we are to find the stone..” “If it is in Deleria we will find it. It will be hard to conceal it...”, he stated, “I have been thinkin

  • A DRAGON TALE    The King's Treasures

Raisel ran towards Dragomir’s tent, in her hands were a lot of papers. They were guards stationed outside, when they saw her they greeted her and gave way for her. When she entered the chambers, as soon as she saw him, a small smile crept on her lips. It was the cutest sight ever. He was still dressed in his royal regalia that he wore earlier, his crown had tipped slightly but it was still on his head. He laid halfway on the bed, his one leg was on the bed while the other was on the floor. He was snoring slightly, and a half-eaten apple was in his hand. She walked closer to him, her eyes lit up in admiration for this man, now she knew why he had not come to see her earlier. He was exhausted. She took the apple from his hand and set it aside. She laid the books and papers she came with on the bed. She removed his crown carefully and laid it aside. She gently roused him, “Dragomir, I need you to wake up. I have something to tell you” He mumbled some incoherent words but he did not w
