JEMIMA’S POV

Why do you speak like that, Arrow that I stood there with my lock of eyes to Arrow's voice an inch above whisper? The words were suspended in the following silence that accompanied my wait for his answer, pounding in my ears with anticipation.

"I'm listening to myself," Arrow said confusedly. "I know what I've said," he said with narrowed eyes as he landed heavy gazes on me. He continued, "I'll be expecting a child soon." Those words hit like a bomb in my system.

I felt my eyes widen, with my breath caught in my throat and staring at Arrow, and my mind whirling with their implications. "What child are you talking about, Arrow?" I asked her with a slight tremble in my voice as my heart raced with expectation.

Arrow's eyes switched to mine, a note of curiosity in his voice as he asked, "So we had sex, right?" The words hung in the air because of the shared intimacy, passion that burned between us in time past. "And sex leads to fertilisation," Arrow continued, voice

ARROW’S POV There I stood paralyzed into surprise, then the words poured out of my mouth, "But I'm apologizing," where my voice had a shock between confusion and concern. I could not believe what was going on. There she was, blazing with rage, the anger between us so thick it could almost be felt as an entity of its own. Her burning gaze seared into me as she hissed at me with poisonous words. Of course she was angry, boiling angry, deep down. Tension radiated from her like waves crashing at the seashore. Breath should not break this silence; on that principle, I went out of the kitchen, leaving her all alone with her anger and resolved not to ignite that fire further. My walk to the room is greatly embarrassed by the knot formed at the bottom of my stomach. It feels like I am losing my wife; she is sneaking away from me, and I have no clue how to prevent that situation. This thought gave me the feeling of having something sharp twisted in my heart. I sat down on the edge of the be

ARROW’S POV My injuries were heavy to carry so I sunk into my chair as betrayal and treachery found a fit description for my musing. The happenings of the morning were on replay, rehearsing each excruciating scene with pain that refused to be soothed. My mind could not think straight at all; all I had was this jumbled mass, a confused wreck, as I was desperately trying to find some rationale in the midst of this whirlwind that had so completely disrupted my life. Reality fractured; either I was literally insane or abstractly bombed, for the ground beneath me lay in complete anarchy. Kindness on her part must have compelled my PA to somehow intrude into my thoughts; he was still speaking when I could not summon sufficient energy to give a verbal response. "Good day, sir," he voice flowed like a soft breeze that danced in summer. "A meeting is scheduled with Enzo Company Ltd." I barely lifted my head to consider him; my eyes were fixed on an invisible point below the floor. Others wo

ARROW’S POV The melodic tune of my phone, breaking the silence of dawn, pulled me from my sleep and out into the sunshine, calling for a new day to begin. Somehow this sleep I had last night felt different, more restful, and I attributed that to the fact that I had finally made some sort of peace with myself. "Surely, this must be the result of the fabricated peace I've managed to keep busy with myself," so I whispered faintly under my breath. Lethargically, I got up, pushing myself away from the bed because it seemed to want to enjoy the reminiscences of a long and calm night. I neared Kalmia by the bed, overwhelmed by the beauty of her sleeping visage. How peaceful and calm it looked in the deep realm of slumber! I bent down and kissed her forehead. She stirred slightly, but the beautiful world she belonged to was untouched by me. I stood there for a second in awe of her sleeping beauty, drinking her in with my eyes. Her eyelids fluttered again, almost as if in pursuit of some

ARROW’S POV I drove to where all the beautiful employees were-the company-as if a race were being run in my head with all kinds of thoughts and feelings; even the words of my pretty wife continued to replay in my mind, her idea like a tempting dream. The drive was more of a blur at that moment. The heart picked up with excitement and expectation; all I could think of was the work at hand. Reaching the company, I made my way to the HR office, each step deliberate and determined. Hands reached out to knock on the door. I knocked; a voice from inside called, "Come in.” I cracked it open, the creak of the hinges being a gentle accompaniment to the movements, and stepped into the inside. The office was warm, welcoming, with air and polished wood scent filling my sensory reception. Mr. Dayemi looked up from his desk with a smile as he greeted me. "Oh, good morning, sir," he said, with a friendly and courteous tone of voice and crinkled eyes as he got up. I responded to his greeting w

ARROW’S POV Well, now is the time to get a contract, I say with excitement and anticipation, surveying a sea of faces, all shining with hopeful expectation. "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a challenge," I say, words lingering in the air, promising something extraordinary, something to which they could respond with skill. The pause was meant for effect. The silence that ensued was thick; the applicants leaned in, eyes fixed on mine, their faces full of curiosity and intrigue. "This is a photo of the legendary 'Echoes of the Night' by the rare artist Julian Backward," I continued, a sense of reverence creeping into my tone as I unveiled the enigma posed before them. Another silence fell, broken only by the patchy humming sounds of anticipation as the applicants awaited what would come next from my lips. "The original has long gone from our world for many decades, and all we have now is just an incomplete and cryptic message left behind by the artist," I further described, pa

ARROW’S POV "Okay, thank you very much," said the man whose voice was like a dingy summer breeze, and then he nodded to the crowd. But with the sudden laughter and chatter resuming in the room, the pair of strange-man-like eyes remained gazed on my face. It seemed as if he was studying me, and his expression was unreadable like a mask hiding true feelings. The very anticipation electrified the air, the crowd was like one huge buzzing hive of bees hovering around a sweet flower. The ambience I could sense-bright smiles and exaggerated nods were everywhere as I scanned the room, like a sailor negotiating turbulent waters-even an iota of doubt was significantly possible, and I felt the heavy mantle of responsibility settle on my shoulders. "I realize that this is no small task; yet one also knows there is someone, with the talent and creativity, who could certainly breathe life into 'Echoes in the Night,'" the voice had a clarity and confidence, almost bright, like the peal of a bell

ARROW’S POV "This is interesting," the strange man nods with a hint of a smile, like the first brush of dawn. "I'm not afraid of challenges," he says strongly, like a boulder anchored firmly in the wind. The crowd erupts in excitement, with several cheering aloud, while some stood in quiet awe, like excitement flooding the room. I am studying the strange kind of person, trying to see through him-like detectives on a manhunt. Narrowing my eyes, I try to read him, like he is a challenge waiting to be solved. What drives him? What motivates him to take on this kind of challenge? "Fine, then," I said, still smiling-most apparently like a flower blossoming in full sunlight. "Let us proceed. You have one week, and no more than that, to carry out the experiment 'Echoes in the Night,' " I exclaim, barely able to stay calm, like a host who had just announced the winning contestant on a quiz show. "If you succeed, you will obtain both the reward and the job offered at our company," I challen

ARROW’S POV It was an electric moment, with all six contestants going their separate ways, caught in their own thoughts. The challenge loomed over them like the sword of Damocles, its edge positively glowing. They knew they were going to enter a crucible in the next seven days, a test of their creativity, skill, and resolve. The odd one joined the tease of questioning. "I'll be watching your progress," came the low voice of the man whose words dripped with enigma. He held their eyes with an intensity that gave the rest a shiver. "I'll be waiting for you to reveal your masterpieces." Then he blended in with the crowd, leaving the others to ponder the stranger's identity and his true intent. A benefactor? A critic? Something altogether more sinister? The other five challengers exchanged apprehensive glances as torturous questions raced through their minds. What was he after? What did he want from them? What kind of masterpiece was he expecting? Parting ways, the six went back to the

ARROW’S POV I leaned against her, my neck muscles relaxed as they reveled in relief. She would sit better or worse besides me, and I felt that gladness in having her there. The two of us stood for some time, just holding on to each other-the tension and chaos of the outside world momentarily forgotten. I knew as well that I was looking toward whatever was next with Kalmia; no matter what it was, we would get through it together. I felt thankful that it was there. I softly parted from her, grabbing Kalmia’s gaze. "I have to find out what this Visha has on me," I continued, resolutely now, the weight of my words pressing against her. "I don't know what lies between us, but I want to learn what she knows about my mother." Kalmia had that thinking pose painted all over her: eyes slightly narrowed as she measured me up. "I wonder if that's wise," she spoke. It had a rather content reluctance. "I don't care." Instead, the more resolved I grew, the steadier grew my voice. "I must have t

ARROW’S POV I entered my comforting home, the familiar setting enveloping me in a warm embrace. "I'll be fine. Thanks," I told Daniel as my voice trailed off into an almost inaudible whisper. The echo of that whisper was like a reminder of everything that had transpired a few hours ago. I hopped into my sedan while blaring some loud music to drown out the chaos in my head. The rhythmic beats from the speakers filled the hollow space for just a moment. Almost instantaneously, from the moment I pulled into the driveway, a profound sense of relief swept past me, finally arriving home. I went into the house and called my wife, "Baby!" My voice echoed throughout the hall, which then brought with it a gentle call that his wife answered promptly. "I'm over here," Kalmia would respond from bellow where the kitchen is with the warmth of an inviting voice. Following the source of her voice, I padded after her in the kitchen, where the smelly dinner floated tantalizingly through the air, almo

DANIEL’S POV "It's as if the person left in a hurry, and I was just hung there, feeling uncertain. The cursor kept blinking endlessly as if to remind me that the conversation wasn't finished yet; however, the silence was becoming unbearably loud. And finally, after ages of waiting, a text popped up on the screen," I can't tie this one to you. The words would extricate themselves, letter after letter, each one wielding well-laid calculation to enhance the torment behind such severe brevity. Down sank my heart as the phrase registered within, disillusionment and fury swelling up in response to it. Those very words were so final, so dismissive-I could not help but wonder what other secrets had been muzzled by just those few words. It's fine, I said, desperately trying to sound as though I meant it while trying to weigh for more. It was a complete lie; nothing was okay. But I was in no mood to stretch this conversation. Because of their absence, I was fully charged and restless

DANIEL’S POV What could Arrow have done to piss Visha off? Was it something personal, or just business? Whether it was something personal or business-the questioning Pollyanna's in my head like a vortex, taking me further into the miasma and making it harder with the passing moments to breathe. This was an avalanche being set to go down-Are Visha's motives ever so deep and multifaceted that it makes for a complex riddle? I was starting to process my thoughts when another message shot through on my phone, the noise sounding in the silence like a gunshot fired in the dark with jarring mention. "If Arrow doesn't go down, he will know my secret," read Visha's words, electrifying me like a tsunami, leaving me breathless and gormless. What could possibly be her secret? I wondered with a really piqued curiosity like that of a detective after a lead, racing through a thousand wild scenarios, each more tantalizing than the last. Something to ruin her reputation? Something evil? Each possibi

  • A DEAL WITH THE BILLIONAIRE   CHAPTER EIGHTY SIX

DANIEL’S POV With the passage of two weeks feeling like a grain of sand slipping through an hourglass, my days trickled by, counted with pain and agony toward the evocation of my so-called heavenly vacation. Caged with anticipation, a living, breathing entity all its own wrapped its sweet, loving arms around my soul and began to suffocate with every passing moment, until it finally came to be. Boarding the plane, I felt the soft whoosh of closing doors like a wishful adieu as Jamaica, with rays of sunshine and azure waters, beckoned to me as a siren would. The money that Visha had funneled to me was burning wild in my pocket like a wild inferno that could be subject to control only by my intentions. I resolved to spend it all and shift my focus from worry and inhibition toward blending with unchecked joy at being on vacation. The sound of reggae, wafting through the airport alongside the aromas of jerk chicken and spices, seemed to carry me off to a world where one could shove

VISHA’S POV I stood before the stranger before me: Daniel. My head was spinning with the gravity of our talk. The room was dim, shadowing the man in front of me, highlighting the sharp angles on his face. "Let's get to business now," I interjected, voice strong but slightly fearful; the words almost a dare. Daniel looked right into my eyes, his intense stare penetrating. His curt nod rippled across his dark mane. "Okay, what do you want me to destroy from Arrow?" he asked, sounds almost casual, his tone utterly colorless, as if this were just routine for him. I stammered, now not able to say anything, my head going whirling inside with mixed thoughts. In truth, I was not preloaded with any idea, but whatever it was, I knew it had to be something that would really hurt Arrow's functioning, leaving him crippled and exposed. "I don't know," I replied. "Maybe you can think of something good enough that when you take it from Arrow, he falls." Daniel's face grew thoughtful. Said while fu

VISHA’S POV It was difficult to have missed out on the trending topic-the mysterious man on my social media feed. That is literally trending everywhere. People were talking and speculating about him. I got interested, my curiosity piquing. I called my friend Jemima, who picked up on the first call. "Hey, girl! What's up?" she said. "Did you hear the news about that mysterious fellow?" I asked her again. "Yap! It's all over social media. But I have no idea what to believe," she replied. "Some say he is a billionaire; others say a recluse.” I laughed. "I know, right? It's like a mystery novel. I seriously need to get in deeper." "Me too," said Jemima. "Let's dig deeper and see what we can find out." We were now on the activity of digging for more information about this mysterious man. We hit the web, reading articles and social media posts. The more we read though, the more questions popped up. Who was this mysterious man, really? What was behind his enigmatic persona? A

ARROW’S POV My anger toppled over, and I took a step closer to him. "You did not think you had any other option, did you? You are working for me, and you're getting paid well. You have a roof over your head, food on the table. And this is how you pay me back? By putting one of your colleagues in harm's way?" The head of a man hung really low, and he nodded slowly. "I know, sir. I'm sorry. It won't happen again." I scoffed. "It won't happen again? You're going to make sure of that. “Guards!" I screamed, my voice echoing through the restroom. "Take him away! He's fired, effective immediately. Get him out of here and make sure he's never allowed back on company premises again." The guards rushed into the room, grabbed hold of the man, and started dragging him away all the while he struggled and protested. I was looking at them from the restroom door, totally unsatisfied with the whole affair. When they had left, I turned to the one who had been kidnapped and demanded, "Now, tell me

ARROW’S POV After a moment, he spoke again in his low gravelly voice: "You're playing a game you don't understand, Mr. CEO," he said. "And you're going to lose." My heart started pounding as I tried to stay composed. "Who are you?" I demanded. The voice laughed. "You know exactly who this is," it said. "And soon enough, you'll know what I'm really after." The line terminated, leaving me with my phone in hand, pondering what's next from this mysterious man. For a minute, I sat there going through all the possibilities in my mind. Who was this strange guy? What could he possibly want from me and my company? I mentally reviewed previous encounters trying to match distant memories against anything remotely pointing toward answers. Resolute for getting to the bottom of it, I convened a meeting with my security team, to whom I delegated the assignment to trace the call. All security footage was also requested for them to find any leads about the mysterious man's identity. I had the i
