Shouts of celebration filled the air of Wulfe, the land of werewolves. The werewolves were having a full moon festival. During the full moon, they hunted the most. In the era, all werewolves lived together in the land of Wulfe and were ruled by only one Alpha— Alpha Janus.
The full moon was not the only thing that led to their celebration. The Luna had given birth to a pup— an heir. She and the Alpha stared lovingly at their son. His hair color was as white as the moon and gazing down at his eyes was like gazing at the sea.
The Alpha took the pup from the arms of his mother and placed him in his arms. He smiled and looked at the child's face with admiration.
"Rendall," The Alpha whispered the name he chose for the child. "That will be his name."
"The shield of a wolf," Montague, the Beta smiled as he said the meaning of the name. "It's the perfect name."
"My son is sent from the moon goddess, to protect the werewolves," the Alpha said proudly as he admired his son. "My son will be ten times stronger and fiercer than I am."
He turned to the werewolves gathered before him, brought out his dagger, and slit his right wrist with it. Having done that, he placed the young werewolf's hand in his palm so that the pup's palm faced him. Using the dagger, he poked the little werewolf's palm till his flesh turned red. Then, he held the little werewolf's hand so that his palm faced the slit on his wrist and a drop of blood fell from the pup's palm into his slit.
Alpha Janus looked up at his people.
"People of Wulfe," Janus called out with a thunderous voice. He raised the child so that the child faced the full moon. "Behold the heir of Wulfe. I shall call him Rendall for my son is from no ordinary place but the moon goddess. He shall rule all werewolves, be their shield and protect them from all evil."
All the werewolves present shifted to their wolf and they all howled in joy.
But, the full moon suddenly turned red.

Not far from Wulfe was Khron, the land of the werelions. While Wulfe celebrated the arrival of an heir, Khron also celebrated the arrival of their heir. Leander, Alpha of the werelions could not take his eye off his newborn baby girl. He was mesmerized by her beauty. Who would not get lost in those big green eyes? He stroked her beautiful hair which was as dark as night and as shiny as crystal stones.
Alecto, the seer began to get closer so he could see the child. Alecto was respected by all for he was a great seer. He was the only person in Khron that could look the Alpha eye to eye.
He brought his special lantern with him since his eyes were not as sharp as the other werelions during the night. When he got closer, something happened that baffled everyone. Her hair color became blonde and her green eyes turned amber.
"Her hair and eye color changes?" A baffled Alpha Leander asked and Alecto smirked.
"My lantern radiates white light just like the sun. Her hair and eye color will change under white light. Her hair and eye color during the day will be different from when the sun sets."
"What does this mean?" Alecto looked worried.
"She's a very special child. Her kind is very rare. For centuries now, her kind has not existed," Alecto announced. He looked at the Alpha and observed him for a while before looking back at the child.
"A rare breed," Alecto muttered to himself thoughtfully.
"What does this mean?"
Alecto looked at the child with admiration.
"She would do great things. She has a really powerful destiny." Alecto’s face darkened. "Something tragic will happen soon but your daughter together with her mate will save everyone."
"Something tragic?" Alpha Leander's face darkened.
"Yes. Something tragic but you need not worry. You have her," Alecto said and as he looked at the child, his face glowed. "A child with a special destiny."
"That's why I am here to take her with me," a voice bellowed and everyone looked at where the voice came from.

His white fur danced as he ran through the thick forest. He was as swift as the wind. His blue eyes searched the forest for prey. He had started hunting since the sun had risen. It was sunset already but he was still hunting. He knew how worried his parents would be. His father, Alpha Janus would surely rain fire and brimstones by the time he got home.
"Rendall! Rendall!" He heard his name. His father must have sent a werewolf to look for him. His pores began to swallow the white fur and he shifted to his human form immediately.
"Your father, the Alpha is overprotective. Why won't he let me be free?" Conri, his wolf snorted.
"It's just too sad," Rendall answered with a sigh of frustration.
"Rendall!" A familiar voice called out and from the sound, he knew that whoever was calling was near and in no time, he saw Montague walking towards him. Montague froze when he saw how much Rendall had hunted. He could not hunt this much even in his wolf form so it was quite shocking to see a werewolf who could not shift to his wolf form hunt this much. As he looked at Rendall, the fear and respect Montague had for him increased. Nevertheless, he had to do what he was sent to do.
"You know how much the Alpha hates it whenever you hunt when it is not the full moon," Montague said sternly even if he hated doing so.
"Montague, we are Werewolves. Hunting in thick, dangerous forests is what we do. If we remain in a land protected from the forest and have tea parties instead of being the warriors we were born to be, then we are not worthy to call ourselves werewolves."
"Rendall, we can only hunt when the moon is full and you know why."
Rendall rolled his eyes. He was frustrated at how the story was always brought up whenever he went hunting. Of course, he knew why. He knew that before his birth, werewolves could hunt whenever they felt like since they could shift to their wolf form whenever they liked. He knew that on the day of his birth, the werelions had done something that angered a witch and she cursed the Werelions. She cursed the werewolves too but nobody knew why. Now, werewolves could no longer shift at will. They could only remain in their wolf form when it is the full moon. After the full moon festival, they would be back to their human form unable to shift to their wolf until it is full moon night again. Because of this, werewolves could only go hunting when the moon was full.
However, Rendall could still shift to his wolf whenever he liked but Rendall made sure nobody knew of his ability including his parents, the Alpha, and the Luna. Everyone thought he would go hunting in his human form and considering how dangerous the forest was, they were scared he would get killed.
"I'm not like the other werewolves Montague."
"Can you shift to your wolf whenever you like? You can't and because of this, you'd have to wait till the full moon night to hunt."
"What if I can?"
Montague began to laugh.
"No werewolf can."
"Well, what if I can?" Rendall looked at Montague with defiance. Montague was baffled at Rendall's question.
"Rendall," Montague sighed. "You are eighteen and your heir ceremony is around the corner. By then, you should know who your Luna will be so you should go female hunting instead."
"I'm a werewolf Montague, not a pervert."
"But, you've never talked to a female of your age bracket since Danica had left."
Rendall froze at the mention of the name, ‘Danica’.
"The moon goddess will pick my mate," Rendall said after having a deep thought.
"Moon goddess?" Montague laughed. "Since Nyx's curse, werewolves hardly find their destined mate. There is a huge probability that you won't find yours. You might have to choose one by yourself."
Rendall glared at Montague.
"I am special." Rendall's voice was stern. "The moon goddess will surely choose my mate and the one the moon goddess will choose for me will be as special as I am."
Rendall and Montague had reached the Alpha's court and Rendall peeped at his mother's room and he saw young werewolves surrounding her. She was telling them the story of what had happened on the day of his birth. Rendall groaned. He was tired of hearing the same story over and over again. "....at Khron, the land of werelions, a witch was present. Leander, Alpha of the werelions had invited her. Since he had no child, he asked the witch to conjure one for him. Nyx, the witch began to chant ancient words and she conjured a female heir for Alpha Leander. The child was so beautiful and the witch watched her creation with admiration. Nyx requested to keep the child but Alpha Leander's eyes had desired what it had beheld so he declined her request. He took the child from Nyx forcefully and locked Nyx in his dungeon. Nyx was very angry at how Alpha Leander had treated her so she laid a curse. This curse affected the werewolves too since Nyx was extremely angry. Now, the werelions can only b
Rendall looked down from the tall tree at the werewolves his father had sent after him. He watched as they looked around trying to figure out which way he had gone. After a while, they gave up and left. Rendall frowned at how they had let him escape easily. "My people are beginning to lose their hunting instincts," Rendall muttered with a sad sigh. "Tsk tsk," Conri, his wolf said disapproving of the werewolves that quitted. "I can sense how weakened their wolves have become. The decreasing amount of meat hunted every full moon is proof. Their wolf side is weakening as the day passes and if nothing is done..." "It'll vanish," Rendall completed his wolf, Conri's statement sadly. "The fact that Nyx curse on the werewolves is heavier than that on the werelion has left me perplexed. Even if she wanted to curse the werewolves for the sin of a werelion, why should the curse be as heavy as the werelions' curse?" Seeing that the coast was clear, Rendall climbed down the tree. He sat on the
"Nyx is dead? How? When? How?" It was hard for Rendall to believe that Nyx was dead. Helia gave a sad sigh. "When Nyx came for me, two guards had tried to stop her but she turned them to stone. Leander, Alpha of Khron, my father knew that defeating Nyx would not be easy but he loved me so much and was not ready to let me go. So, he pretended to have agreed with Nyx. He made her feel like he was ready to release her to me. He invited Nyx to have a feast with the Werelions and during the feast, father tried to talk her into asking for something else but Nyx was too adamant. She needed me to make a spell. Seeing that Nyx was not ready to let me go," Helia paused and then added with a fallen face. "He decided to lace her food with one of the deadliest poisons in the world." Rendall gave a sad sigh. "When Nyx realized that she was poisoned," Helia continued. "She laid a curse on both the Werelions and werewolves that Alpha Leander tried to save initially and then she died on spot." "T
"Did you just say a thousand gold pieces?" Pamela wanted to be sure of what she had heard. She could not believe that a girl as young as Helia could have such an amount of money. Who was the girl before her? Pamela suspected that she was no ordinary werewolf. Was she even a werewolf? It was hard to detect but Pamela noticed how much she radiated an aura similar to that of royalty. It was so obvious from the way she spoke and walked. "You heard me right. I'd give you a thousand gold pieces. All you need to do is hand over your clothes to me and speak of this to no one." "Who are you?" "You've surely heard of me from folklores told in Wulfe. Anyways, knowing my identity is of less importance to you. What is more important is you giving me your uniform." "I want your gold but the reason behind paying such an amount for the uniform of a maid is what baffles me." "It is not your cup of tea and I do not have much time to waste." Helia was visibly pissed. She was runn
"There's a spy in my room," Rendall yelled and Helia froze. "Why do you want to get me killed?" Helia regretted why she had visited him. "Do you think I will let my visitor get killed?" Rendall smirked. "My room is soundproof so you do not have to worry. I was only pulling your legs." Helia sighed in relief. She frowned when she saw that Rendall had begun to laugh. "Why are you laughing?" "I never knew Helia could get scared." "I'm Helena, not Helia and Helia... I mean Helena can never get scared." After saying this, she left the room and Rendall did not try to stop her. He knew she would stand her ground no matter what. Immediately she left, Montague walked into his room. "The Alpha demands that you grace his presence this very moment," Montague announced. "He locked me up and now he wants me to see him. Pathetic!" Rendall scoffed. "You would have to see him." "I'd only be leaving this room to find a way to break Nyx's curse. I refuse to leave this room to see an Alpha who
Everyone present froze. They were all surprised to see that Rendall was able to transform into his wolf even when it was not the full moon. Rendall ran to Helia and they both ran out of the Alpha's court. Nobody tried to stop them. Not even Alpha Janus. They just stood, transfixed and unable to decipher what had just taken place. Helia and Rendall both ran till they got to the forest. The Sentinels at the border were not able to stop them. When they got to the forest, Rendall stopped but Helia kept on running. He ran after her, hoping she would stop but she did not. She ignored Rendall and ran faster until she got to a strange-looking tree that differed from other trees in the forest. Rendall stopped to watch her. Under the tree were a lidded container and a bag. She brought out a dress for herself, glanced at Rendall, and gave him a small twisted smile. She brought out a dress for him too, threw it at him and it fell on his shoulders. He frowned but she ignored him, reached out fo
"Take a chill pill. Would you? Why the outburst?" Luna's eyebrow furrowed in confusion. What was going on in her head? "I'm sorry." Her voice softened. "Let's forget about the outburst. I don't know what came over me." "Oh! Okay." Rendall wondered what was on her mind as he studied her. Was she thinking of rejecting him? He sighed. If that was what was on her mind, then it was good, right? The feeling was mutual, wasn't it? He wondered if she even knew he was her mate. Helia had always seen herself as someone who was always in control but this werewolf was making her lose control easily and she hated it. She knew that she needed to do the needful fast and make sure she does not cross paths with the wolf again. "We should go to Alecto now." Helia feigned a smile and Rendall nodded in agreement to what she had said. Helia led the way and Rendall walked behind her. It had been hours after sunset, yet, they had not gotten to Alecto's house. Helia's hair was jet black already and h
Rendall heaved a sigh of satisfaction as he walked with two dead antelopes on his shoulders. He could have hunted for more but Alecto had infuriated him by scolding him for not leaving earlier. Hello seethed in anger as he remembered how Alecto had driven him out of Helia's room and out of the house. Well, two antelopes were more than enough for the old man, he thought to himself and smiled as he saw Alecto's house from where he stood. Rendall dropped the games in front of the house when he got there. The door was opened and he could see Alecto and Helia drinking tea and discussing heartily. "I'm back," he announced as he walked into the house but neither Alecto nor Helia spared him a glance. "So my father loved chicken as much as I do when he was younger?" Helia asked Alecto, ignoring Rendall. "Yes and then he was nicknamed ‘the chicken Alpha’. Oh, my days! Then, at night, all the werelions will gather and everyone will display how fiercely they shifted. Of course, your father w
Helia watched in terror as the silver bullets moved toward Rendall. She closed her eyes and without thinking about it, she muttered words. Words which she had seen somewhere but could not place where.Energy radiated from her and immediately, she heard the bullet strike someone. She felt her heart freeze, hoping it was not what she thought. Hoping that whatever she had done had worked.Helia's eyes snapped open and when they did, they moved to Rendall, then to Alpha Janus and they dilated. The son stared at the father and the father stared back. One of them was on their knees, gasping for his last breath."F— father?" Rendall's voice quivered.Alpha Janus' head was bowed in shame."You tried to kill me?" Shock was written all over Rendall's face. He knew that his father was evil and despite the threats, he never really thought that his father could try to kill him."Save me.""I can't. If I could, I still wouldn't. You deserve what has befallen you," Rendall spat disdainfully.Helia s
"Rendall!" Helia called out as soon as she got into Rendall's room. Rendall was seated on his bed with worry etched on his face."Helia?"Rendall got up from his bed. He began to look around and Helia sighed."You can't see me, remember?" "Oh! You're right. You're under an invisibility spell. You were still in my father's room after I had left, right?""Yes.""And you heard Mr. Wilkinson and my father talk about me, right?""Yes.""What did they say?"Rendall's question was followed by a long silence."Your father. He is so—""Evil?""Evil is too weak to describe what he is. No offense, but I'd rather not have a father than have a father like yours.""I know right? So, what did he say?" Rendall asked and he raised an eyebrow as he heard her sigh again."We have to be cautious.""What did my father say?""That he'd kill you if he finds out that you're trying to trick him," Helia said and Rendall chuckled sarcastically."Well, I'm not surprised. He'd do anything for power. Do you hear
"Everything that happened, happened according to how it was fated to. All this happened for one result. The werewolves are getting punished for taking the land of the witches. The werelions are punished for not helping their neighbors." "How do we get out of her punishment?" Helia asked "That's for you both to figure out. You both have the knowledge you need to break the curse of Khron and Wulfe. You have to. It is your destiny to do so." "Since we are destined to save Wulfe and Khron, we'll do so, right?" Rendall asked and Alecto smiled. "We have destinies. We can also choose whether or not we want our destinies. You can choose to save the werewolves and werelions. You can also choose not to save the werewolves and the werelions," Alecto answered with a casual shrug and Helia and Alecto glanced at each other. "We have to take down both my father and Mr. Wilkinson," Rendall said and Helia scoffed. "Like you would really take down your father. You would surely betray us," Helia s
"Do you really have to go? Again?" Damien looked downcasted. "Please, don't leave. Stay a little longer." Helia and Rendall exchanged glances. They both looked sad too. "We have to go. We have a curse to break," Rendall explained and Damien looked up at him with his eyes glossed with tears. Rendall's heart melted at the sight and he took Damien into his arms and hugged him. "Aunt." Damien turned to Helia with his body still glued to that of Rendall. "Please hug me too." Helia opened her arms and Damien gestured for her to come closer instead. "But—" Damien's face fell, interrupting Helia's protest. She waved her hands in surrender and joined them. Rendall froze as her skin touched his. His heart began to flutter and so did Helia's. At that moment, they both realized that the rejection did not work. Damien smiled to himself when he saw them look at each other. He disengaged from the hug and as he did, Rendall and Helia were in each other's arms without Damien acting as a middl
Mr. Wilkinson smirked at Alpha Janus, brought another pair of eye contacts, and gave it to him."What do you think?" Mr. Wilkinson asked when Alpha Janus wore it and Alpha Janus looked at him."How do you use this? Can you hypnotize simply by looking a person in the eye or do you have to do something else?"Mr. Wilkinson raised an eyebrow as soon as he heard Alpha Janus' question and then he grinned. "Why are you trying to move faster than your shadow?"Alpha Janus was thrown off guard by Mr. Wilkinson's question before he quickly put himself together. "I'm just very curious, you know. I'd really love to know.""You seem—" Mr. Wilkinson's voice trailed off and Alpha Janus frowned.‘Just tell me how to freaking use the Gizmo, stupid human,’ Alpha Janus cursed in his mind."Your thoughts matter too. Just think about it while you lock eyes with whoever you want to hypnotize and boom, he or she would be.""We want to hypnotize every were-creature, remember? Would we begin to look everyone
"Werewolves and witches have a history?" Rendall was shocked."A painful one at that. Haven't you heard any folklore concerning it? Or at least a myth? You werewolves are good at telling fake stories anyways just for storytelling's sake."Rendall scoffed and looked back at the book. "Let's check out what is written in it. Do you think it's because of the history that Nyx cursed Wulfe too?""My mother did a great job by cursing the werewolves. I would have done the same," Helia said."Let's just check the book," Rendall said. He was tired of hearing Helia's complaints. She rolled her eyes, removed the book away from his face, and opened it."What's written in it?" Rendall joined her in checking the book and they both turned white as they flapped through the pages. The book was telling a story. It was a story of how the werewolves had forcefully taken the land of witches away from them.A long time ago, werewolves had no particular land. They formed packs that were ruled by an Alpha. A
"Please, don't send us away," Helia pleaded and Damien's grandfather scowled at her."Get out," he growled. "Daughter of a witch. Heaven knows if she's a witch like her mother. These things must exist in the genes. Your mother killed my only son and my daughter-in-law. I have almost nothing left. You probably want to take all I have away from me.""But—""If you don't leave now, I'd make sure I kill you with my own hands," Damien's grandfather threatened. "It will be fair enough anyways. Nyx kic cflled my son and I killed her daughter.""Sir, we—" "You're pushing me," he growled, interrupting Helia again."We're here because we need to break Nyx's curse," Rendall said quickly before he'd get interrupted by the old man."She cursed you?" "Yes, that wicked witch cursed the both of us and our families too," Rendall answered and Helia glared at him for calling her mother wicked."She did?" The old man's hard expression was beginning to melt."And a demon called Janus too. He is also cal
Helia closed her eyes. Her greatest nemesis had caught up with her without her seeing any way of getting out of it. So, Helia stood, expecting an impact.Suddenly, she heard the sound of a bullet striking flesh. Helia froze. She wondered where the bullet had struck. She wondered if she would die anytime soon. Helia placed her middle finger under her nose to know if she was still breathing. She was. She placed her hands on her chest. Her heartbeat was normal."Does death come this slowly?" Helia asked herself and immediately she felt something lift her. She snapped her eyes open and as she did, she screamed.Peering down at her was a blue-eyed white beast. She batted her lashes as it dawned on her that it was Rendall in his wolf form. She was in the arms of Conri, Rendall's wolf."From frying pan to fire," Helia muttered to herself. She looked away from his face to their surroundings and gasped. Lying on the floor were Alpha Janus and his warriors. They looked lifeless and Helia wond
"You're joking, right?" Rendall frowned as he heard Alecto's words."Joking? Should your father killing Alpha Leander surprise you? You of all people know the kind of person your father is.""But he promised me that he would not kill Leander and Ariela told me she did. Why would Ariela tell me she killed Alpha Leander when she did not.""He he. All I know is that your father has a hand in Helia's father's death.""How do you know the things you know? Who are you?""He he! You'd be the first were-creature to ask who I am. The rest assume they know but I can assure you that I'm not what they think I am.""Then, who are you?""You would know how with time," Alecto smirked. "All you have to know now is to go to the human world to Nyx's house.""Nyx's house? But we—""Helia is on her way there," Alecto chipped in and Rendall did not bother to argue again."Did my father really kill hers?" Rendall looked down at his feet and Alecto heaved a sigh."I warned you not to ask me that it'll hurt.
