CHAPTER 5
Matt turned to the counter and gestured to the bartender to refill his glass. " My mom would be thrilled.....she has been on my neck for a while now " he stated simply. " Oh....I see, what are the rules ?"She asked nervously He dropped his glass on the counter and turned to face her, his face bearing no expression at all. " This might be a contract marriage but you are still going to be my wife meaning you belong to me both your body and your soul for as long as the contract says " His words sent a chill down her spine, and a smile suddenly crept to her face.......oh Good Lord what was she thinking? she should be scared but something about belonging to him actually made her excited. She reached out and grabbed her wine glass to calm her nerves. " I also want a baby " he said, breaking the brief silence. Ivy almost spat out her drink." A....a baby? " She looked at him in disbelief. He stared at her in silence, his head titled to one side " Yes a baby, don't you want to have one? " Ivy had always wanted to have her own child but Ethan had always pulled out. The thought of her finally getting the chance to have one stirred something deep inside her. " I do.....I was just shocked " " Good. Now you can proceed with your questions, I'm sure you have some " he pointed Of course Ivy had a thousand and one questions running through her mind. She cleared her throat nervously before proceeding. " First of, tell me about yourself, your family and what you do for a living " Matt dropped his wine glass on the counter as he let out a deep sigh. " I am a graduate of Civil Engineering but I dropped my certificate to work on a farm. Weird right......something about being with nature gives me peace " " Oh.....what about your parents?' She noticed the sudden shift in Matt as she mentioned his parents. He seemed to be uncomfortable. " Dad's dead, all I have is my mom and my little sister. " he said as he proceeded to gulp down his remaining wine. Ivy stopped herself from questioning him further, he seemed uncomfortable and she was sure she'll get to know his story better with time. They spent the remaining night talking and getting to know themselves while coming to terms on how the contract will look like. She watched as he smiled at some of her jokes but his smile never reached his eyes and she wondered why. His raven dark hair dazzled in the dark and she finally noticed that he smelt like spices. She was spellbound and she knew it. They exchanged contacts before parting ways and she walked out of the building feeling ecstatic while Matt watched her silhouette in silence, his silver eyes growling......oh this naive ginger head, she didn't know what she was getting herself into. ............................... ( The next Morning ) " He's a farmer? " Emily asked, ready to burst. " Don't laugh....... he's actually a graduate, he just loves nature" " That's weird, but we will find out soon enough. I'll put a call through to Mark, he'll help us find out more" Mark was a private investigator. One of the best in the city, he was the right hand man of the top Attorneys always ready to dig up anybody's past. " So, will you prepare the contract now or after Mark finishes his investigation? " She asked " I think it's best we wait till after the investigation but I'll make a draft before then to make things faster" Emily paused to observe Ivy's gloom face. " You look annoyed girl what is it again? " Ivy sighed " I got an invite in my mail this morning, apparently Irene will be having a Party tonight at her new Mansion " " So? You don't have to go, she's obviously inviting you to rub her top spot and the house in your face " She rolled her eyes. " That's the thing Emily, I have to go. The press will be there and if I'm missing it will be on the front page of the daily news tomorrow " she slammed her palms on her forehead. " Ugh..... you're right. They'll watch out for you specifically, they know you guys are rivals. Do you have to go with a partner? " " No, the IV says it's a ladies party. The only good thing though is the fact that Lilies Club will be present and I'll get to meet Mrs Smith, the founder of the club" " Alright girl.....make sure you wear something eye catching, or do you need me to come pick out your outfit? " " Nah I'm good, plus I'm sure you have a lot of work here in your office, your table is practically flooded with documents." she pointed. " Right " she said, smiling brightly as she waved her friend goodbye. Ivy spent hours trying out different outfits, her maids almost tripping over themselves as they ran around trying to pick out only the best. Top female personalities would be attending the party and she had to dress to impress. She finally picked a dress she had bought on her last trip as her maids started another session of styling. She pulled up to the grand mansion, her heart racing as she took in the sight of the extravagant Mansion right in front of her eyes, glistening under the evening lights. Her sleek white car, a luxurious model with sharp lines and a polished finish, exuded a sense of power and elegance. As the car door swung open, her driver a tall man in a sharp suit stepped out first, followed closely by a stoic security guard, scanning the crowd with a watchful eye. Ivy emerged from the car next, commanding attention in a stunning black short sleeve dress that hugged her figure perfectly. The dress featured a fitted bodice and a flared skirt that danced around her knees, giving her an air of sophistication and confidence. The fabric shimmered subtly, catching the light as she moved. Her ginger hair was styled in loose waves that cascaded over her shoulders, framing her face beautifully and adding a fiery touch to her ensemble. As soon as she stepped onto the red carpet, the press and paparazzi swarmed around her, their cameras flashing like lightning. Questions erupted from all sides, probing into Irene's recent success as the top female CEO, while Ivy felt the weight of their scrutiny as they whispered about her fall to third place, the atmosphere was charged with tension. As the cameras clicked and the reporters shouted questions, Ivy took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. "How does it feel to be dropped to the third spot and Irene emerging as the top female CEO?" one reporter called out, shoving a microphone in her direction. Ivy hesitated, her heart racing. "It's... it's a tough competition, but I'm proud of the work I've done," she replied, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. Another reporter chimed in, "Do you think Irene's success is a threat to your career?" Ivy swallowed hard, feeling the pressure. "I believe every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. I'm focused on my own journey," she answered, her voice wavering slightly. A third reporter pressed, "What are your plans moving forward? Will you try to reclaim your position?" "I’m always striving to improve myself and my business " Ivy said, trying to sound confident. "I’ll be back stronger than ever." A reporter with a sharp gaze seized the moment, asking, "Ivy, many are saying that your marital status has denied you membership to the prestigious Lilies Club. What do you have to say about that?" Ivy felt a flush of heat rise to her cheeks. "It's disappointing, but I believe that my worth isn't defined by my relationship status. I’m focused on my career and personal growth," she replied, trying to maintain her composure. Another reporter quickly jumped in, "And what about your personal life? Is there a man in your life right now?" Ivy's heart raced at the question, and she took a moment to gather her thoughts. "I'd rather not say " she said, her voice steadying as she spoke, though inside, she felt vulnerable. The questions kept coming but she had had enough and she quickly gestured to the Security team on standby. They held the press back as she made her way into the mansion.CHAPTER 6 As Ivy stepped into the grand mansion, the atmosphere buzzed with laughter and the clinking of glasses. She felt the weight of every gaze as couples mingled, their hands intertwined, their smiles bright. A knot formed in her stomach; she had come alone, fully aware of the unspoken theme of the evening. Irene, she was responsible for this. Her eyes darted across the room, her heart beating wildly in her chest. Then she spotted Irene, her biggest rival. Irene stepped into the room wearing a stunning, form-fitting red dress that hugged her curves perfectly, accentuating her figure. She paired it with strappy black heels that added height and elegance to her look. Her hair was styled in loose, glamorous waves that cascaded over her shoulders, and her makeup was flawlessly done, with smoky eyes and a bold red lip that matched her dress. A delicate silver necklace adorned her neck, catching the light as she moved, completing her striking appearance. Irene looked good and sh
CHAPTER 7 As they stepped out of the mansion, the night air wrapped around them like a cool embrace, the distant sounds of laughter fading into the background. Ivy turned to Matt, her gratitude evident in her eyes. "Thank you for being my rock tonight. I honestly couldn’t have done it without you." Matt offered a half-smile, his gaze drifting away as if searching for something in the shadows. "Just doing what I can" Ivy gave him a warm smile "I guess we should call it a night then, you came with your car right ?" He hesitated, the moment stretching between them. “I didn’t drive,” he admitted. Ivy raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. " So how did you get here, a taxi?" He glanced at her, a flicker of something deeper hidden behind his calm facade. "Let’s not dwell on that." "Okay, I guess I'll have to drop you off then. Where is........" Ivy stated, but he cut her off, his tone shifting to a playful challenge. "How about I crash at your place tonight? As a thank you fo
CHAPTER 8 "Are you just going to watch me all night?" Ivy teased, trying to lighten the mood, though her heart raced. Matt's gaze intensified, his voice low and serious. "I can't help it. You're captivating. But we need to talk about the contract." Ivy turned to face him, a hint of apprehension in her eyes. "What about it?" "I think I should move in, it’ll make things easier " he suggested, his tone firm yet inviting. She raised an eyebrow, surprised. " Oh, I was skeptical about bringing it up earlier.....I didn't want you to feel less of a man just because of a contract " "Yeah, it makes sense. A random nobody married to a CEO will make the headlines but not to worry we can sort that , when do I get the contract?" " Umm.... let's give it a little more time, My best friend is still working on it, she's my Attorney " " Oh.......I can't wait to meet her then. We should definitely pay her a visit , so she can meet me formally " " That shouldn't be a problem, I'll arrang
CHAPTER 9 "Can you please tell me where we are going" Ivy called from behind, slamming the door behind her. Matt turned with a smirk on his lips. "You'll find out soon enough, and oh you might want to change into something light" He pointed. "Something light?" Ivy repeated, inspecting her girl power office fit. " Yes, something sunny. I'm ready when you are" "You really won't tell me where we are going all of a sudden?" Matt quietly walked over to the Dinning table intending to finish his interrupted Breakfast. Ivy sighed and made her way upstairs. Ivy stands in front of her closet, staring blankly. Where were they suddenly going to? Something suddenly clicked in her mind, Wait.....was he jealous? Ivy found herself giggling at the thought, she was sure Matt was jealous of Wilson. He was probably taking her on a date to claim his territory. It dawned on her "A date?!" She almost screamed. "Calm down girl you've got this" She said before proceeding to wreck her entire cl
CHAPTER 1 " What do you mean you used $2 million?! " Ivy slammed her palms on the table, her face twisted in rage. " Babe, relax this isn't a big deal " Ethan stated without baiting his eyes. " This isn't a big deal? Ethan you've been spending an awful amount of money lately and it's affecting the company " Ivy responded trying to contain her anger. " My Company, my money in case you forgot you are just the MD " Ethan pointed out while sipping his cocktail. " Your Company? I worked my butt off to get us to where we are today and you've almost destroyed everything we've built within 6 months " Ivy snapped. The maids and butlers watched from a safe distance in awkward silence, this wasn't the first time, heck they've been having heated arguments for months now. If Ethan wasn't womanizing he was busy gambling away their money. " Can you just stop this nonsense and go to work? Go and make more money that is your job after all" Ethan said. She grabbed her handbag and bolted
CHAPTER 2 ( 5 years later ) Ivy sat in her office, her glass window overlooked the city giving her a breathtaking view. She had successfully built and managed her own company over the years, after battling Ethan for months in court she eventually parted with more than half of his properties due to his infidelity. Her company was one of the most sort after company in the country. She was recently named the second most successful Female CEO and was featured on popular magazines. She sat on her seat reviewing the documents the MD had brought earlier when her phone suddenly buzzed. She grabbed it and checked the caller ID, it was Emily. Ivy smiled widely as she picked the call. " Babe, what's up?.........oh....... You're in my house? alright alright I'm coming " She ended the call and grabbed her bag making her way out of her office. She made a quick stop at her secretary's desk and gave her instructions before heading to her car. Her driver was already on stand by and they le
CHAPTER 3 ( The Next Day ) " What took you so long? I got drunk and got into this mess because of you! " Ivy said, fuming. " Babe relax, I'm sorry I didn't know we would eventually leave for his house plus I was drunk as well" Emily said, trying to defend herself. Ivy sighed and sat down on the nearby couch. " I'm sorry for yelling, I'm just worried this might get out to the press plus I don't even know him, how the heck did I sleep with someone I don't know.......wait a minute, what if he tries to blackmail me? " Ivy asked, her heart pounding. " Relax, have you forgotten your best friend is an attorney? I've got your back " Emily said, as she gave her a reassuring smile. That was true, there was no way he could blackmail her when she had one of the top attorneys beside her. Ivy's pounding heart died down and she finally smiled. " So.....how was it? " " How was what? " she asked with a raised eyebrow. " You know......did you enjoy it? And don't tell me you didn't, co
CHAPTER 4 Ivy sat in her car for minutes catching her breath, what the heck just happened?. Did Wilson just propose to her out of the blue? She reached for her phone, she wanted to call Emily badly but she decided against it. She let out loud sigh as she gestured to her driver, he started the engine and they drove out of the premises. ( 2 days later ) Ivy sat on her couch in her living room , deep in thought. Wilson's words kept reminiscing in her head. She sighed out of frustration as her phone buzzed, she checked the caller ID, it was Mary her personal assistant. " Good day Mary " She said " Good morning ma'am, have you checked the Stats? " " No, what is it? " she inquired anxiously. " Ma'am ,you've been dropped to number 3 on the chart" " What?! how?....when? what happened? " She asked, as her heart slammed painfully against her chest. " It's Irene Ma'am, the investor just invested in her company and now she's number 1 on the chart " she said. Ivy and Irene had
