Chapter 6 She's Not Special!

Hustleburg General Hospital

Upon arriving at the hospital, Serena made her way to the cashier's desk, eager to pay her grandmother's medical bills using the black card.

"Hi, I'm here to pay the bill. Here's the patient ID and information." Serena said, her voice trembling with a mix of anxiety and hope. Her grandmother's health was finally secure.

The man looked at the card in her hand and froze for a second, then looked up at her, frowning, some shock in his eyes.

Serena asked with caution, "Sir, is there a problem?"

She couldn't bear any more surprises.

In response to her query, the man seemed to regain his composure and took the documents from Serena's hand, shaking his head. "No, ma'am. I'll process this for you right away."

He quickly handled the payment and related paperwork, ensuring the bill was settled.

"Madam, here are your items. We've upgraded your family to a VIP room, and I'll arrange for a nurse to transfer you to the new room."

A VIP room?

Serena froze in shock. She hadn't asked for a ward upgrade!

Besides, Hustleburg General Hospital was renowned, and its VIP wards were typically reserved for influential individuals. and the VIP wards here were only available to powerful people, even if they had money, they wouldn't necesgownly be able to stay there. What's going on here?

she noticed the black card the man had handed back to her. Suddenly, it all made sense.

He must have assumed that her grandmother was a significant figure within the Harrington family, and that was why.

Serena realized once again how powerful the Harrington family was, permeating almost every...

With a small smile, she took what he handed her and whispered, "Thank you.”

A moment later, inside the Bentley.

"Boss, there's a traffic accident up ahead, we need to stop first," Nathan's hands gripped the steering wheel as he quietly reported to the man lying in the back seat with his eyes closed.

Matthew made no sound, just a soft, muffled grunt from his nose that indicated he knew. Rarely was he so tired that he had to take time out of his busy schedule to rest.

The traffic was moving slowly and hadn't stopped for long when Nathan's slightly shocked voice came from the front, "Boss... That person... Seems to be Mrs. Serena."

Matthew frowned at the revelation and opened his eyes, a twist of his head and her face was clearly in front of his eyes, coincidentally they stopped right in front of her. The car windows were tinted and Matthew knew she must not be able to see him, giving him a moment to observe his new wife

This was the entrance to the hospital, and it seemed Serena was there to pay medical bills, using the black card he had given her. .

Outside it was the heat of the day, the blazing sun hanging in the air, she sat in a hot chair, her back straight, her eyes lazy, and she didn't know what she was thinking.

The corner of Matthew's lips lifted inadvertently, knowing that the women of the rich and powerful families would never allow themselves to be so exposed to the sun, even a few steps away, they would choose to hold an umbrella.

But Serena, as if she couldn't feel the burning sun, sat motionless in the sun. Like a sunflower plant desperately trying to absorb energy.

His wife seemed to have a lot on her mind, what could it be? Matthew continued to watch her, intrigued by her actions.

Nathan, who was also observing the scene, seized the opportunity to speak up, "Boss, I actually saw Mrs. Serena's resume today?"

gaze remained focused on Serena, his furrowed brow relaxing considerably as he raised an eyebrow in response, "She submitted a resume to our legal department?"

"Yes, boss," Nathan said, taking a file from his bag. He had intercepted it from the head of the legal department yesterday, unsure about how to proceed, as it seemed that Matthew was not entirely pleased with the marriage.

It was then that Matthew withdrew his gaze,  and he took the file from Nathan. As he skimmed through it, everything seemed to blur, except for her name, which she had listed as Serena H, with her marital status indicated as married.

Obviously, the H stood for Harrington, but she didn't write her full name; she didn't want to take advantage of it. But then again, she didn't pretend to be single.

His fingers paused and the movement of his hands stopped.

He had to admit that he was touched for a moment. This woman really was different.

However, it was just a momentary feeling. Matthew was a businessman who approached matters like marriage as a business too.

He never felt like falling in love with a woman, love was only a small part of the equation for him, and he had other things to do.

Nathan noticed the subtle change in Matthew's mood and took the opportunity to speak, "Boss, Mrs. Serena's qualifications align with our requirements..."

Matthew raised his gaze slightly at hiss words. After a brief pause, he responded in his usual, matter-of-fact tone, "Let the legal department handle it in accordance with the procedures."

Nathan relaxed then, luckily he didn't block it, otherwise how would he explain it to the Legal Director!

Ba-

The car behind them honked impatiently, signaling that the traffic accident had been resolved.

Nathan was about to start the car when he had a thought and asked Matthew through the rearview mirror, "Boss, should we offer Mrs. Serena a ride to the office with us?"

Nathan’s tone was filled with joy, even his expression was visibly relaxed, but it annoyed Matthew.

Was his assistant happy for his wife now?

He raised his eyes and gave Nathan a cold look, emphasizing, "She's one of the candidate, nothing special.”

Nathan didn't dare say anything more but stepped on the gas and the car slowly pulled away.
