CHAPTER 68

Audrey’s POV

I skipped on one of the stairs and found my body slipping down the remaining band of stairs. I didn’t realize how quiet and peaceful everywhere was even though for me, there was a slight buzzing undertone that brimmed at the bottom of everything else. The sound of my body falling and slipping down the stairs created so much noise that I couldn’t even make noise of my own from the reaction of falling. I was trying so hard to stay silent that when the fall was done, my body ignored my pain and ignored what I would have called a rush of adrenaline. In the wake of those few silent seconds when all you could do was wait for the consequences of your actions, I waited.

At first, I tried to delude Musket with the idea that I made it through, I wasn’t going to be caught because of the silence that filled everywhere.
