Karen’s POV

The day had finally arrived, Jordie's birthday. I had been planning this surprise party for weeks, and I couldn't wait to see the look on her face when she walked into the room. The kids, Paris and Austin, were bubbling with excitement, and I could tell they were having a hard time keeping the secret.

As we waited for Jordie to arrive, I couldn't help but think about our past. The struggles i had faced when I first arrived at New York on the streets of the cold allies. It was a miracle that I meant Jordie that night. There were tugs running in the ally and I didn’t know. The kids where coming and I couldn’t afford the money for a hospital so I just slumped down on the side and hold that death would just take me once and for all cause the pain was too unbearable for me and I just couldn’t.

I wanted to stay alive to give birth to my kids but the pain of everything was just too much. Liam wasn’t willing to give it a rest and still chased after me and after smuggling into dif

Devon’s POV I stood outside the office building, taking a deep breath before pushing open the door. I had been dreading this moment for weeks, but I knew I had to do it. I had to get back on my feet, and this was the first step.As I walked up to the reception desk, the receptionist looked up at me with a mixture of surprise and annoyance. "You're back," she said, her voice dripping with disdain. "I didn't think you'd actually show up after yesterday's... performance."I felt a flush rise to my cheeks as I remembered my attempt to persuade her to let me see Karen. "Yeah, I'm here to start work as the errand boy," I said, trying to sound confident. The receptionist raised an eyebrow. "You're the one who was trying to sweet-talk me into getting you an interview with Karen, aren't you?" she said, her tone accusatory.I nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Yeah, that was me."The receptionist shook her head. "I'll let Mr. Greg know you're here," she said, picking up the phone.A few minut

Devon's pov.Her long black hair descended down her back and the others covered her face. “Gemini?”The words left my mouth before I could even register it.Greg was first to turn and this hissed in frustration before hurriedly walking to Karen's office. Meanwhile, Gemini turned slightly glancing at me for a moment and I saw something flicker in her eyes–amusement. She walked past my desk before entering Karen's office. What was she doing here? As if it wasn't bad enough that I'd met Karen and now Gemini too. After Grey Tech fell, the entire members scattered and well I didn't hear from Gemini days later. She had said the previous day before then that she was in her way but after waiting for her for hours, it was clear that she had completely abandoned the ship just like the others. Gemini was a smart woman despite how shaken age always was. After everything that happened in Grey Tech she soon took the position as manager in Lex Operate faster than I expected. It was normal to th

Karen's Pov My office was quiet as usual with just the bustling and faint sound of cars passing by. I was used to it all, five years were enough to learn a habit of two. Greg's perfume along with my new assistant who supposedly goes by the name Gemini had just left the office but could still hear their muffled conversations from just the office door. Gemini was Liam's old secretary and that was all I knew about her. She was the only eligible candidate suitable for this role well…except Devon but she has come earlier. I didn't know her well but from the few things I heard she was smart in business negotiations and very persuasive. Every move she made was calculated and deliberate. It wasn't that drawed me to her and I could easily go for the next candidate due to her tardiness but there was this feeling that said I shouldn't let her go yet.. If she was late, it wasn’t because she overslept or got caught in traffic. It was something else but I wasn't quite sure but she'd be damned

Karen's POVBy the time I parked in my driveway and stepped out, I looked at the house in front of me. I was glad to be home, though my mind was still flooded with the events from work and the chaos of the day.Work was never tiring for me; I enjoyed what I did and every moment of it, but having Gemini and Devon around now made it a bit of a hassle. It made me more excited to leave than to stay. It wasn't supposed to be that way. There were too many meetings and decisions to be made, but the Lord knows that has never been a problem for me. I thrived on things like that, and problem-solving was one of my many admirable traits. The only thing out of place was the new people flooding my safe haven, but I couldn't let it get to me. I was the boss, and I built this place.Stepping inside, I barely had enough time to remove my coat and set my keys down when Paris came bolting toward me, her little legs stomping on the tiles, and her giggles filled the air. She gave me a wide smile before he

Karen's pov.Another day, another slay…yeah right, I wasn't that delusional. The buzzing sound of the alarm filled the room cutting through the silence of the room and early morning. Groaning, I reached out to silence the disturbing sound and my hands landed directly on the snooze button for the third time again.I had to get up by exactly 5am to prepare the kids for school now that Jordie was absent and still make it early to work but yet here I was, snoozing yet again. I'd barely gotten any sleep the night before. Between the stress at work and the worry about Jordie leaving, I wasn’t feeling my best today.I dragged myself out of bed, stretching as I glanced at the clock. 6:30 AM. I had less than an hour to get myself together, get the kids dressed, and somehow still look like a functional adult when I walked out the door. The moment I entered the hallway, I heard the sound of giggling. I walked into the living room, rubbing my eyes.Paris and Aiden were already awake and, as usu

  • A Billionaire's Love   Chapter 77

Karen's pov I rushed to my car, trying to quiet the swirl of thoughts in my mind. The morning had been hectic, as it always was when Jordie wasn’t around. I’d barely had time to take a deep breath before Troy arrived, but there was something about him—his calm demeanor, his easy confidence—that reassured me. I’d watched him interact with Paris and Aiden, and the way he immediately slipped into a playful routine with them made me feel a little more at ease. As I settled into the driver’s seat, I adjusted the rearview mirror, took one last glance at the house, and pulled out of the driveway. The kids would be fine. I trusted Troy to take them to school, even though I’d only just met him. And as much as I had my reservations about letting a stranger—albeit a friend of Jordie’s—into our lives, I couldn’t deny that he had a certain calm energy about him. Something that puts my worries at ease.Still, I couldn’t shake the unease completely. What if something went wrong? What if the kids d

Devon’s POV“Get out. Now.” She said and her voice was filled with so much disdain and finality. Her words slashed through my heart and I froze in place. I didn't expect her to react like this, not after she had been so calm just moments ago.I opened my mouth to speak in my defense or at least try to explain to her what I wanted to say, hoping that maybe she'd give me a chance but her expression hardened even more and she raised her hand stopping me.“I don’t want to hear it, Devon. Just go,” she said, her tone clipped. “Get back to work.” She dismissed me before returning her head back to the system placed in front of her, even if she didn't look up again I could tell she was daring me to defy her. My chest tightened and instant regret overwhelmed me. I wanted to tell her everything, explain how sorry I was again and again, no matter how long it took. I nodded though I was reluctant and headed to the door, heading outside her office. The door closed behind me with a soft thud b

  • A Billionaire's Love   Chapter 79

Karen’s POVThe day had dragged on longer than I expected. After the tense start to the morning, my meeting schedule seemed never-ending, and every conversation felt like a mountain to climb. By the time I left the office, my mind was a jumble of worries about the business, Devon, and—most of all—the kids. I pulled into the driveway, cutting the engine as I let out a deep breath. The house was quiet, the windows glowing softly in the evening light. A wave of exhaustion swept over me, but beneath it was a flicker of anticipation. I wasn’t sure what I’d find inside. Was Troy still here? I pushed the door open and stepped into the house, greeted by the faint sound of giggles coming from the living room. The warmth of the sound eased some of the tension in my chest. Kicking off my shoes, I made my way toward the laughter. There they were. Paris and Aiden were sprawled out on the carpet, coloring in their notebooks while Troy sat cross-legged on the floor, holding up a picture book

EpilogueSix Months LaterThe shopping mall bussied around Karen as she wove through the aisles, her heart hammering in frustration."Austin!" she called, glancing around the shelves filled with colorful toys.No answer."Paris?" she tried again. She spun around, her eyes scanning the store, but the two little troublemakers were nowhere to be found. A pang of panic crept up her spine. Jordie, who had been helping her keep an eye on them, jogged up, her face mirroring Karen’s concern."I swear, I just saw them two minutes ago," Jordie said, glancing around.Karen let out an exasperated sigh, running a hand through her hair. "They're fast. Too fast."She pushed past the rows of toys, checking behind shelves and peeking into play areas, but the kids were gone. Her heart pounded harder. Then, suddenly—"You might want to be careful with these two."A deep voice—steady, familiar.Karen turned sharply, and her breath caught in her throat.A man stood a few feet away, holding both Austin and

Karen’s POVThe door burst open with a thunderous bang, the sound echoing through the cold night air. My breath hitched as a swarm of armed officers stormed in, their guns raised in precision, their movements swift and practiced.“Hands in the air! Nobody move!” a commanding voice barked. The room shifted instantly. The arrogant smirks on Liam and Troy’s faces faded, replaced by something I had never seen before—fear.“What the hell is going on?” Liam hissed, his eyes darting toward the doorway. And then she walked in.Lauren.Clad in a sleek black jacket, her presence radiated confidence. She stepped forward, unbothered by the chaos around her, her gaze sharp and unyielding."You forgot about me," she said, her voice dripping with amusement.Troy’s jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing. "Lauren," he spat. "I should’ve known you’d stick your nose in where it doesn’t belong."She smirked, stepping closer, her gaze sweeping over the room before landing on me. There was something in her eyes—

Karen's POV I forced my eyes open, but my mind felt sluggish, struggling to catch up with my surroundings. A dull ache pulsed at the base of my skull, and my body felt impossibly heavy, as if every limb had been weighed down. The sharp sting of cold air sent a shiver down my spine, and a strange, salty scent filled my lungs. This wasn’t the alley. I blinked rapidly, my vision adjusting to the dim light. Instead of damp concrete and graffiti-stained walls, I saw open space. The ground beneath me was rough and uneven, dirt and gravel scraping against my skin as I tried to move. A cold breeze brushed against my skin, sending a shiver through my body. My limbs felt heavy, but I forced myself to move, shaking off the haze.Where had I been? The last thing I remembered was the alley—Devon tied to the chair, Troy’s grip on my arm, Liam’s smirk—then, darkness. As my vision slowly sharpened, I realized we weren’t there anymore. The damp, suffocating alleyway had been replaced with an op

Karen’s POV“Alright, they’ll be back this afternoon.” Jordie’s voice came through the phone, warm and reassuring. In the background, I could hear the kids giggling and playing. My heart ached with how much I missed them.“Let them stop over at the ice cream shop, okay? There’s no rush,” I said with a small smile. The response was immediate—excited squeals and the sound of tiny feet shuffling around.“Mommy!” Austin’s voice piped up next. “Luna and Lucas told us stories!”I chuckled. “Oh? What kind of stories?”“About a pirate and a lost treasure!” he said excitedly. “But Lucas says the treasure was actually a puppy!”“That sounds like a fun story,” I mused. “Did you like it?”“Yes! But Aiden said the pirate should’ve had a pet parrot instead.”Aiden’s voice came in the background. “Because pirates always have parrots, Mommy!”I laughed softly. “Well, I can’t argue with that.”“Can we tell you the story when we get home?” Austin asked hopefully.“Of course, sweetie.” I smiled, my hear

Devon’s POVThis was it.The final move.If I wanted to fix the mess I had created, if I wanted any chance of making things right—not for myself, but for Karen—this was what I had to do. Even if it was the last thing I ever did.Stepping out of the cab, I adjusted my coat and walked toward the elevator. The security at the front barely acknowledged me; Liam had always been arrogant enough to think no one would dare come after him.The elevator ride up was suffocating each passing second amplifying the weight pressing down on my chest. As soon as the doors slid open, I stepped into the hallway leading to Liam’s office. The air carried a faint scent of cigars and leather, a familiar stench that brought back too many memories I’d rather forget.I pushed open the doors without knocking.Liam was seated behind his oversized desk, a whiskey glass in one hand, his other hand lazily flipping through documents. The moment he saw me, his lips curved into an amused smirk, his dark eyes glinting

Devon’s POVThe night was thick with silence, the kind that settled deep into the bones and made a man question everything. The cold metal bars in front of me felt heavier than they should, the dim flickering light above casting elongated shadows across the small, suffocating cell.I leaned back against the wall, running a hand through my hair as my mind spiraled into the past—into the mess that had landed me here.Karen.Her name echoed in my head like a ghost refusing to be forgotten. I remembered the accusations, the way they had thrown my name into the fire, claiming I had been the one threatening her and the kids. The sheer disbelief in her eyes had stung more than I cared to admit.Had it really come to this?A sharp rattling sound jolted me out of my thoughts.I straightened, my instincts kicking in as I turned toward the cell door. The metal groaned, the lock shifting before it swung open.Troy stood there, his face impassive but his eyes burning with something close to contem

Karen’s POVMy breath caught in my throat as I stared at Lauren. The weight of her betrayal hit me like a punch to the gut. I had suspected, but now the reality of her involvement was undeniable."You've been sending me messages," I said, my voice trembling with a mixture of rage and disbelief. "Threatening me, threatening my kids. What the heck do you want? And then you go ahead and kill somebody. You're a psychopath." The words spilled out, the anger rising in me with each passing second. Her lips curled into an almost sinister smile. She didn’t even flinch at the accusation. Instead, she laughed—a soft, mocking sound that made my skin crawl."I hate you Karen,” she said. "And yes, I’ve been sending some messages. But it was only to check up on you. Nothing much. Just checking how things were going." Her voice dripped with sarcasm, as if everything she had done was just some petty game.I could feel my blood boiling. "You killed somebody," I snapped. The tension in the room was suffocating, thick with the weight of everything that had just happened. Troy stood in front of me, his arms crossed, his gaze hard and unyielding.“They have leads, Karen,” he said, his voice firm. “And all of them point to Devon.”I shook my head, my stomach twisting uncomfortably. “That’s impossible,” I whispered. “Devon wouldn’t do this. He—”Troy cut me off, stepping closer and placing a file down on the desk in front of me. “We just got this,” he said. “And I need you to face it.”Slowly, I reached forward, my hands trembling as I flipped the folder open. My breath caught in my throat. It was the same photo. A blurry image of a man, caught in the act of what looked like a secret exchange. Devon's pov.The next day, I walked into Karen’s office, my mind still reeling from the night before. The memory of her lips, her body pressing against mine, and the raw emotions we had shared clung to me like a second skin. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, couldn’t stop feeling it.I had barely slept, replaying every detail in my head, wondering what she must be thinking now. Did she regret it? Did it mean anything to her? Did it mean as much to her as it did to me?Her office door was slightly ajar, and I caught a glimpse of her inside. She was seated at her desk, her expression neutral, focused on something on her computer screen. But I knew her well enough to notice the tension in her shoulders, the way her fingers tapped absently against the edge of her desk. She was thinking about last night too.I took a deep breath, steeling myself, and pushed the door open fully. She looked up, her green eyes locking onto mine. For a moment, neither of us spoke. The air between us felt char
