Devon's Pov.

5 YEARS LATER…

The air in the upscale restaurant buzzed with muted conversations from the people already seated. I could hear the clicking of the glasses from the happy couples and friends in the background and faint jazz music.

I sat at the private both, holding a glass of water that had long gotten warm. Across from me was Mr O'Hara, he sat, his gaze piercing through me as though he could see my insides. The silence between us was deafening.

Mr O'Hara, one of the wealthiest and most influential investors in the industry. His suit was perfectly tailored. He was a very important man, his demeanor was cold and his eyes made it clear that he didn't tolerate mediocrity.

The meeting was my very first in over five years, each before that was always rejected as soon as the investor knew who they were going to address. I'd also let Gemini go a few months later, I couldn't pay her so there was no use keeping her around. I'd had to leave San Francisco and move to Los Angeles j

Devon's Pov. The evening arrived faster than I expected. I spent most of the day pacing my apartment, nerves twisting in my stomach like a coiled spring. Every second that ticked by was a reminder of the stakes. I couldn’t fail—not this time.My eyes met the wall clock and as it an alarm rang in my head. I had an hour left before midnight and that was all the time I had to get the artifacts. I quickly bolted into the bathroom, I showered quickly, the water was cold on my skin beating at my back as if preparing me for what I was about to face. I finished up in the next ten minutes and was out. I fished out a suit from my wardrobe. The suit was an old one, slightly outdated but the only one I had left with me and still it was a little oversized. I brushed off the faint hint of dust from the shoulders and threw it on it the next minute. It wasn't glamorous but it was the most expensive looking I had. The auction was going to be filled with a lot of fancy men and women of high standin

Devon's POVThe entire room was frozen and in complete silence as all eyes turned. The silence was so deafening that one could almost hear a pin drop.Karen's voice was clear and deliberate and pierced through the tension of the room. My breath caught in my throat and my throat ran cold as I saw her.“Thirty million dollars. “ She repeated, her voice echoing in my ears. The auctioneer blinked, visibly taken aback by the huge amount gap but he was quick to recover.“Thirty million dollars! Do I hear thirty-five million?” But the room had gone still. No one dared to challenge her bid.Who would, it was an insane price for just a mere artifact despite its value. I couldn’t move. My gaze was locked on Karen as she lowered her sunglasses, revealing the same piercing eyes I’d thought about every night for the past five years. Her expression was calm, almost emotionless, as if she hadn’t just dropped a fortune without hesitation. “Going once…going twice…” The auctioneer’s voice filled

Devon's Pov The evening air was cool and carried a faint scent of rain as I exited the auction house. My steps were heavy, every echo against the pavement a stark reminder of my failure. Karen was alive—alive and thriving. I should have felt relief, joy even, but the cold indifference in her eyes, the sheer lack of emotion in her voice, had turned my victory into ashes. I hailed a cab and gave the driver my address, leaning my head against the window as the city blurred into streaks of light and shadow. My mind churned with memories of Karen, her sudden reappearance, and the venom dripping from Liam’s words. “She doesn’t want you, Devon. She never did.” Her words had cut deep but not as deeply as the icy gaze on her fame and the cold demeanor she carried. I spent five dreadful years looking for her, sacrificing pieces of myself along the way, just for her but all that was gone because the woman I loved was now a stranger. The cab pulled up in front of the auction building an

Devon’s POV It was a threat, his words didn't hold empty warmings, he meant it and I didn't even understand why? What did I have to do with it?O'Hara looked at me, his gaze piercing through me like a knife ready to slice me at any time. “Also, I'd need you to infiltrate GlassHouse Inc., Devon,” he said, pacing back to his desk. “They’ve been too secretive, too calculated. It still doesn't sit well with me. I need someone on the inside. Someone who can uncover what makes them tick and bring that information back to me.”His gaze focused on me, this time with a boring intensity. “And that person is you, Devon.” I frowned, my stomach twisting. “You want me to infiltrate the company? As what—a spy?” He arched a brow. “Call it whatever you like, but yes. There’s a job opening for a personal assistant to the president. You’ll apply, ace the interview, and secure the position. From there, you’ll learn their business secrets—every negotiation, every partnership, every weakness.” I

Devon's Pov.The moment I pushed open the door to the president's office, my throat went dry. She was there, seated behind a massive desk exuding the same aura she had the yesterday at the auction. My heart thudded inside my chest. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I heard her say icily, her gaze slicing through me as if I were nothing more than an inconvenience. After the brief encounter yesterday, I didn't think it was possible to see her again, I thought that was going to be the last time or at least it'd take a longer while. She looked over at me before returning her gaze back to her system. It was like she didn’t even know me. I opened my mouth, but no sound came out. My mind reeled. How could she sit there, looking at me, and act like I wasn’t the man she once called her husband? “I’m here for the interview,” I managed to say, forcing my voice to stay even. Her gaze lingered on me for a brief moment before looking back at her system. “I wasn’t aware we were still condu

Karen’s POV Being the biggest in the business world all over the globe might come out as flashy but really it wasn’t as easy as it looked. After leaving the Chicago for good all I could do was hover around the street until a Mrs Jordie stumbled upon me and took me in. I stepped unto my Bentley parked just outside GlassHouse Inc. and into the car. I still had to check the previous document from the past week but I’d told Greg to keep the organised for me until I had the time to check it. The Asian were calling from left to right and that was enough case on my plate. Work was so busy thanks to my personal assistant who decided to bail after getting pregnant in a blink of an eye. I started the car engine but just before I could move, Grey appeared on the other side of the glass and I lowered the window waiting for him to speak. “The man from earlier ma’am, he called saying you granted a position for him. “Greg was loyal and alway making sure to confirm things twice, I couldn’t sa

Karen’s POV The day had finally arrived, Jordie's birthday. I had been planning this surprise party for weeks, and I couldn't wait to see the look on her face when she walked into the room. The kids, Paris and Austin, were bubbling with excitement, and I could tell they were having a hard time keeping the secret. As we waited for Jordie to arrive, I couldn't help but think about our past. The struggles i had faced when I first arrived at New York on the streets of the cold allies. It was a miracle that I meant Jordie that night. There were tugs running in the ally and I didn’t know. The kids where coming and I couldn’t afford the money for a hospital so I just slumped down on the side and hold that death would just take me once and for all cause the pain was too unbearable for me and I just couldn’t.I wanted to stay alive to give birth to my kids but the pain of everything was just too much. Devon’s POV I stood outside the office building, taking a deep breath before pushing open the door. I had been dreading this moment for weeks, but I knew I had to do it. I had to get back on my feet, and this was the first step.As I walked up to the reception desk, the receptionist looked up at me with a mixture of surprise and annoyance. "You're back," she said, her voice dripping with disdain. "I didn't think you'd actually show up after yesterday's... performance."I felt a flush rise to my cheeks as I remembered my attempt to persuade her to let me see Karen. "Yeah, I'm here to start work as the errand boy," I said, trying to sound confident. The receptionist raised an eyebrow. "You're the one who was trying to sweet-talk me into getting you an interview with Karen, aren't you?" she said, her tone accusatory.I nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Yeah, that was me."The receptionist shook her head. "I'll let Mr. Greg know you're here," she said, picking up the phone.A few minut

Karen's pov Three weeks later.Devon had kept on coming every new day for three weeks and each time, I either pretended not to hear him or sent him off.Today was finally the day to launch GlassHouse Inc and Titans Tech marketing strategy we had been working on. The e-book product we had been working on for over a month now. The team was buzzing with anticipation, the kind of energy only a project of this magnitude could create. As I walked into the conference room, the team was already gathered, with Greg standing at the head of the table, ready to lead the meeting. Troy was on the other side, looking focused and sharp as always. The synergy between our teams had been incredible these past few months. We were two giants in our respective industries, now united with one goal: to disrupt the market."Karen," Greg greeted me with a nod as I entered, "everything’s set for the launch. All we need now is your final go-ahead."I took a deep breath, feeling the moment. "Let’s do this. We’v

Karen's Pov I sat in the quiet of my kitchen, the soft. My hands gripping the edge of the table, my fingers white-knuckling the surface. The message from Lauren had rattled me more than I’d like to admit. Every time I replayed it in my mind, the implications grew darker. "Drive safely, and don’t forget to buy Paris those crayons." The casual tone felt so harmless, but the context was anything but.I had tried to ignore it, push it to the back of my mind like I had with everything else from the past. But Lauren’s words kept nagging at me. It wasn’t just a simple message—it was a reminder that someone, somewhere, was watching me. Watching my kids. If Lauren knew about Paris needing crayons, then that meant someone had been keeping track of our movements, of our daily life. And if Lauren knew that, who else did?I stood up, pacing the kitchen as my thoughts spiraled. I had worked so hard to build a life for my kids, to protect them from all the mess that came with my past. But now, it

  • A Billionaire's Love   Chapter 96

Karen’s POVThe past few days had been nothing short of chaotic. Devon hadn’t shown up to work since our argument, and while I told myself I didn’t care, the curiosity about his absence refused to leave me alone. Then, of course, Lauren had to crawl out of whatever hole she’d been hiding in to threaten me. Her words had been running around in my head ever since.I turned a corner, heading toward my office. The familiar sounds of the office surrounded me—phones ringing, muffled conversations and the occasional clack of a keyboard. It was a symphony I normally found comforting. Workers getting down to work for what they are here for. As I approached Devon’s office, I caught sight of the partially open door. Something pulled at me. I slowed my steps, my gaze drawn to the figure slumped at his desk.It was Devon. He didn’t notice me. His head rested on his desk and shoulders curved inward as if carrying the weight of the world. His usual appearance was in shambles—no tie and a rumpled s

Karen's POV“Lauren?” Her name rolled bitterly down my tongue A shiver down my spine. The years hadn’t dulled the impact of her presence on my life, nor the storm of emotions that hearing her voice again unleashed."Lauren?" I whispered, almost unable to believe it. It felt like a ghost calling me from the past, a specter that had been buried but was now rising to the surface. There was a soft, almost teasing laugh on the other end of the line."Did you miss me, Karen?" she purred, her voice as sharp and sarcastic as I remembered. "I thought you'd be happier to hear from an old friend."I swallowed hard, my pulse quickening. "What do you want, Lauren?"She was silent for a moment, but I could hear the faint sound of her shifting, perhaps moving in her seat, or simply savoring the effect her voice had on me. "Oh, nothing much," she said, dragging the words out slowly. "I was just curious. WonderingThe air felt thick with tension as Lauren's voice lingered in my ear, like a shadow I

Devon’s POVThe bar’s lights flicker above me, a dull, sterile glow that does nothing to soften the harshness of the night. My face still burns where the bruises are fresh, the swelling a constant reminder of the fight I’d tried to forget. I shouldn’t even be here. This place, these people, it all feels like a mask—something to hide behind when I can’t bear to face what I’ve done. What I’ve lost.I grip my glass, watching the amber liquid swirl, but I don’t drink. I’m not even sure why I came. Maybe to drown out the ache in my chest. Maybe to pretend I’m not thinking about her—about Karen.I wish I had just made things right. What the hell was I thinking, pushing her away? Pushing everyone away. All this time, I told myself I was doing the right thing, but look at where I am now. Alone. With nothing but the guilt weighing me down, eating me alive.I set the glass down and rub my hand across my face, my fingers grazing over the bruises that mark me like a map of every mistake I’ve ever

Karen's Pov “Let me see them.”he said, his words halting my steps.I froze, my heart skipping a beat. Slowly, I glanced over my shoulder, just enough to meet his gaze.“What?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.“Let me see them,” he repeated, his tone quieter now, almost pleading. “Let them at least know who their father is.”My heart clenched, but I kept my face cold, my expression unreadable.I wanted to respond, to tell him no again, but he continued before I could find the words.“And I promise, I’ll stay away after that. Just… just let me be a part of their life, even if it’s just a little piece.”His words caught me off guard, piercing through the layers of my resolve. My breath hitched, and I felt the familiar sting of tears threatening to escape. A single tear betrayed me, slipping down my cheek, but I quickly brushed it away and stiffened my posture, replacing my momentary weakness with a hardened demeanor.“No,” I said firmly, my voice sharp and unwavering. “You will

  • A Billionaire's Love   Chapter 92

Karen’s POVThe day stretched on endlessly. The team had dispersed, Troy’s words of encouragement still ringing in their ears, but my mind remained clouded. Devon still hasn't shown up for three days now and his absence gnawed at me, an itch I couldn't scratch no matter how much I tried to drown it in work, spreadsheets and schedules. The office was quiet now, save for the hum of the heater battling the January chill. Paris and Austin were at their grandmother's for the weekend, leaving no distractions to pull me out of the spiral of my thoughts. I wanted to convince myself it was just another day, that Devon's "personal day" meant nothing. But the truth was, it did.I leaned back in my chair, staring at the ceiling. The weight of the past clung to me like a shroud. How could someone who had hurt me so deeply still have such a hold on my thoughts? I hated that he did.Picking up my phone, I scrolled through my contacts, my finger hovering over his name. I shouldn’t. I knew I shouldn’t

Devon’s POVThe beach had been an escape, or at least I thought it would be. The sound of the waves, the salty air—it all should’ve calmed me down. But the more I thought about Kareem's words, the more I felt the weight of them crushing me. He was right. I was falling apart. Every drink, every bad decision—it was all just adding to the mess that I’d created. What was I even doing with my life? The walk back to my apartment had felt longer than usual, and by the time I stepped into the Uber, I barely had the energy to breathe, let alone talk. My head ached from thinking too much. I reached into my pockets, pulling out the last of my spare change. It wasn’t much. Just enough to get me through tonight. The car pulled up in front of the bar, the familiar sight of it hitting me with a sense of dread. I didn’t even know why I came here anymore. It used to be a place where I could forget everything, but now it was just another reminder of how far I’d fallen. Still, I couldn’t help it. The t

Karen's POVThe hum of the projector filled the conference room as charts and graphs flickered to life on the screen. Around the table, Troy’s team sat poised with notebooks, laptops, and an air of readiness that spoke volumes about their dedication.I adjusted my blazer, scanning the room. The atmosphere was electric—full of possibility and momentum. This was the kind of environment where real change happened, and I felt a surge of excitement despite the weight of the morning’s events still lingering in my mind.Troy stood at the head of the table, his sleeves rolled up, revealing forearms marked with faint scars that told stories he rarely shared. His voice carried the room, confident and precise, as he outlined the agenda for the day.“Our goal is clear,” he began, his dark eyes sweeping across the table. “We need to increase market penetration in untapped regions while solidifying our dominance in existing territories. To do that, we’re focusing on three pillars: innovation, custo
