Chapter 1 Adrian

Adrian's POV

The mouth-watering scent of food made my stomach growl. It's almost enough to make me want to go down there, at least to sneak some food and quickly slip back inside without being seen.

As tempting as that was, the loud sound of many voices reminded me of how many annoying people were outside, which is why I was still hiding in my room.

“Ugh, come on! My stomach is eating itself!” Nikolai groans as he lies sprawled out on my bed, staring at the ceiling while holding his stomach.

I growl in frustration as I try on another tie. Everything looks stupid! “This shit's too dressy for me!” I said angrily as I ripped the tie off and threw it on the dresser. I felt like I was suffocating in this stupid shit. I untied the first two buttons of my shirt and tugged on it as I stretched my neck, taking a deep breath.

“You're so dramatic! Come on! This year is not so bad. It's at our place this year instead of those dipshits,” Nikolai said as he sat up.

“How can you stand to be around those people? Their ideals and beliefs are frustrating! It takes everything I have not to choke each one of those fuckers!” I said angrily as I pointed toward the balcony.

“Yeah, but they're not all that bad. At least we snagged four Omegas last year, like this little one,” Nikolai said as he reached over and roughed Milo's hair.

The Omega growled as he swatted the Alpha's hand away.

“Hey! Don't mess up my hair!” Milo said, glaring at the Alpha before returning to what he was doing. He pulled his lip between his teeth and carefully painted his last toenail light blue.

Nikolai chuckled and shook his head at the Omega.

Milo yelped when the door burst open. He placed his hand over his chest to calm his racing heart when he saw it was just Weston.

“You guys are assholes! You left me out there with the hungry beast. You said you'd be down there 30 minutes ago! Unbelievable,” Weston said as he threw himself on the bed and pushed out a breath.

“See!” I said as I pointed at Weston.

“Even he doesn't want to be down there!”

“No, I don't! I already have a headache,” Weston said as he massaged his temples. He looked at the Omega when he set his nail polish on the nightstand. The commander in training opened his arms as he whined, “I need snuggles!”

Milo smiled as he moved forward, crawling into Weston's arms. He nuzzled his cheek, and within seconds, the Omega was purring.

“If we don't get down there soon, my father will come up here and drag us down. I'd rather walk on my own if that's okay with you,” Nikolai said, and I groaned as I looked toward the balcony.

As much as I didn't want to go down there, I knew I had to. This idiot wasn't going down without me, and I didn't feel like getting yelled at by his father like I did last year. Getting yelled at by the Alpha isn't on my list of things to do today.

“Come on, you big baby!” I said as I pulled Nikolai to his feet.

“How are you supposed to be my Alpha when you can't do things on your own?” I asked, side-eyeing my best friend, who also happens to be the next in line Alpha.

“Well, technically, an Alpha isn't supposed to do everything on his own. That's what I have you for. My future Beta,” Nikolai said as he slapped his hand on my shoulder.

“Hey, what about me? Did you forget me? You need me to,” Weston whined as he shut the door behind him.

“No, I didn't forget about my commander,” Nikolai said as he wrapped his arm around Weston's shoulder. He smiled at the Omega in Weston's arms, reached up, and pinched his cheek.

Milo growled and swatted his hand. The Omega hated his cheeks pinched or when someone messed with his hair, and the Alpha knew it. Every chance he got, he messed with the Omega just to hear him growl.

Nikolai chuckled as he stepped just out of reach.

“You have the most adorable growl,” Nikolai said, and the Omega growled louder.

“My growl isn't adorable! It's fierce and scary!” Milo said, and the three of us threw our heads back, laughing.

“You sound like a kitten, angry that someone drank his milk,” Weston said, and Milo took a sharp breath in, staring at Weston in shock. He slapped his shoulder before squirming out of his arms. The Omega pouted as he stormed toward me, reaching his arms out.

I almost laughed when I realized just how short he was compared to us. The little thing doesn't even reach my chest. I had to bend over just to pick him up. He settled into my arms and looked over my shoulder, glaring at his current enemies.

“Well, I thought I was going to have to come up there and drag the three of you down here,” The Alpha said as he stood at the bottom of the stairs with his arms crossed over his chest.

“I'm sorry we're late. I tried to get down here as fast as I could. You know how much I love these things,” I said sarcastically, and the Alpha raised an eyebrow before shaking his head.

“You three… Just get on out there! Who knows, maybe one of you will find your mate.”

“Don't hold your breath,” Nikolai said as he bumped into my shoulder and reached for Milo's cheek. He quickly jerked his fingers back when Milo snapped his teeth at him, trying to bite his fingers.

Nikolai holds his fingers against his chest, looking at the Omega in shock. He could have sworn he felt the little shit's teeth graze his fingers.

A smug and satisfied look settled on the omega's face, proud of himself for almost biting the Alpha's fingers.

I pause at the back door before exhaling as I push it open.

As expected, the party is in full swing, and there's hardly anywhere to walk without bumping into someone.

Many years ago, werewolf packs were sectioned off into territories. It helped the council keep track of all the packs. Where they were, and prevented too many packs from popping up everywhere.

They named each territory after the city of the largest pack in that section. Since we are the largest pack in our section, they came up with the name Watton territory.

I find it ironic since Watton is quite a small town in Michigan's upper peninsula. And yet, the entire peninsula is called Watton territory for us werewolves.

Thankfully, with the amount of land our pack owns, we are big enough to host an event this large.

Each year, our territory has an annual party, and every pack participating takes a turn hosting it. It's to enhance allied relationships and to create new ones. It's also for unmated werewolves to find their fated mate or to choose a claimed one.

Omegas are brought out at the end once everyone has found their mates. This allows Omegas to see if they have mates, and allow higher ranks to choose a breeder.

Our pack has no problem with anyone finding their mate, but we do have a problem with people choosing breeders. It would be one thing if they volunteered to be one, but that is not the case.

You see, in the world of werewolves, Omegas are the only ones who can get pregnant by anyone besides their mate.

Because of this, they are used for breeding, mostly by Alphas looking for an heir.

Things are like this for a reason, and maybe if I tell you the ranking system, you might understand.

Ranks from highest to lowest are as follows; Alpha, Beta, and Commander are your highest class. This is followed by the Delta class 1 through 3, with 1 being the highest, and lastly, Omegas.

Alphas are all dominant, the rest of the classes, except Omegas, have submissives and dominants. All Omegas are submissive, and only Omegas can get pregnant by someone other than their mate, which is why they're used as breeders.

Breeders are essentially used like a surrogate, but it's against their will. They're forced to have a baby, and most of the time by rape. They are not allowed to raise their child or stake claim to it. Once that baby is born, it goes to its father and the claimed mate to raise as their own.

This kind of treatment would never fly in the human world, but it does in ours, and here, we consider ourselves superior to humans… If we are so superior to them, then why are they getting it right when we are getting it wrong?

Nikolai says that because the three of us grew up together, believed in the same thing, and knew what the other was thinking, we would be a stronger team than our fathers and the ones before them.

I don't know how right he is, but we have at least nine years before our parents step down.

The only time one of us steps up before thirty is if our Father dies, and that's not something any of us want. So, no matter how much we're looking forward to taking our parents' place, we also hope it won't happen until our parents step down instead of passing to us by circumstance.

Now if I can only get through this stupid get-together without choking a rapist, maybe I won't spend the next two weeks in a jail cell like I did last several years.

I paused at that though, and let my eyes scan the crowd. When I did, I instantly knew where I would be for the next two weeks, and it wouldn't be in my room. Not after seeing all the terrified Omegas standing silently next to their owner, who were not only raping them behind closed doors but brought them to this event to show them off and exchange Omegas as if they were trading cards.

That thought lit a fire in me, and all I saw was red as I moved forward, wondering how many Alphas I could take down before I was thrown in jail.

Adrian's POV Milo clings to my side with a firm grip on my shirt. He nibbles on his lip, trying not to look any visitors in the eyes. Years of abuse from these assholes took a toll on this Innocent little Omega. It was so hard to pull him from his shell. I'm not sure how we did it, but the three of us somehow succeeded and earned his trust. Now, he's a permanent shadow to the three of us, which we happily accept. He's always with one of us during our free time, and 9 out of 10, the three of us are together, which gives him the comfort and security of his three favorite people. It's rare for the three of us not to be together. Nikolai's father always said we're attached at the hip, which makes me wonder how Mr. Muscles ended up out here earlier without us. I look to my right and find Mr. Muscles in quite a predicament—the same one I always find him in at these events. Weston is what every Beta calls the dream catch. He's the biggest Delta one in our territory. He's not only the talle

Third Person's POV Milo nibbles on his lip as he scans the crowd. He wasn't sure he'd come, but he hoped he would. The Omega's eyes carefully move through the crowd, and his heart skips when his eyes land on him. Milo wiggles out of Weston's arms and dashes through the crowd. Timothy stands near the building, far away from the crowd. His eyes scan the area, looking for a certain Omega. His face lights up when Milo bursts from the crowd. It took him a moment to realize just how fast the Omega was running, and he took a few steps back before opening his arms to catch him. Milo collides with Timothy, and they tumble backward into a bush. They roll out of the bush and land between the bush and the pack house with Milo on top.Timothy falls into a fit of giggles as Milo peppers kisses all over his face, telling the Omega how much he missed him. The sound of Timothy's laughter is music to Milo's ears, and he pulls back to look at him. The Omega beneath Milo is beautiful, especially when h

  • A Beta's Heart   Chapter 4 Alaric

Adrian's POV The closer I get to the drink stand, the further the asshole's smirk spreads. Of all the Alphas, Alaric is the one I hate the most. The asshole made school a nightmare. I got lucky with elementary and middle school; our pack had our own. High school is a different story. They believe it helps create future bonds between packs if their children go to high school together. The idea is that they learn together and become friends so that when they're older, they have connections with other packs instead of just their own. This idea would work if the children from other packs got along, but that's not always the case. Don't get me wrong, some people from different packs get along, but some don't.Some keep to themselves, some make friends, and people like Alaric make other people's lives hell. I missed my own graduation ceremony because me and this dipshit were having it out behind the school. This fucker thought it would be funny to shred my cap and gown and fill my trunk

Third Person's POV Weston was frustrated that Timothy's Alpha refused to discuss any deals on the Omega until it was time to release all of them. Thankfully, they didn't have to wait much longer, and before they knew it, it was time to release the Omegas.Weston hated this part, and so did the rest of his pack. The Omegas from visiting packs had to remain isolated until it was time for them to come out. Once they came out, it was their turn to see if they had a mate there. You could see the hope in their eyes, but you could also see fear. Fear of the unknown. If they have a mate, will he reject or accept them? If he does accept them, will he be nice, or will he use and abuse them like most people do? It wasn't as heartwarming and glamorous for the Omegas to find their mates, but it was worse when they didn't. Any Omegas left without a mate were free grabs for anyone who needed a breeder. The Omegas file out of the pack house and nervously walk through the crowd. Their noses flared a

  • A Beta's Heart   Chapter 6 Friends

Adrian POV I never realized how exhausting it was to experience a rejection. I knew it was painful, and I knew it was dangerous for lower ranks, but I never realized that, even for someone like me, the toll it takes on your body.Every muscle in my body ached. And not like I just overdid it working out and pushed myself a little too hard, no. It felt like I had worked out for 3 days straight. My muscles were on fire. It was even hard to walk to the bathroom. My chest constantly ached. It felt like someone ripped my heart from my chest. Not even in my sleep was I able to get away from it, or away from him. Every time I fell asleep, I dreamed of him rejecting me over and over again. He haunted me every time I closed my eyes.I hear a whimper again as he snuggles closer, and I finally force myself to open my eyes. When my eyes open, I'm met with a head full of strawberry blonde hair. The Omega has been my constant companion. He refuses to leave me alone and tries his hardest to make me

  • A Beta's Heart   Chapter 7 Getting Over a Rejection

Adrian's POV I'm not strong enough to return to training yet, but at least I'm not stuck in bed all day. It's been 6 days since I was rejected, and my strength is finally returning. The doctor is surprised I'm already up and about. Most people can't drag themselves out of their room for at least two weeks. I'm not an Alpha, but I am a Beta—and a strong one at that. On the training field, I'm at the top of my class and undefeated. I think my strength and high position as the next in line Beta is helping my body heal and get over the rejection faster, even though the doc doesn't think so. He seems to think no matter how high-ranked you are or how strong you are, you'll still be down for a minimum of two weeks. He's perplexed by how fast I'm healing, but I say the old man isn't giving me credit. I've wiped the floor with Nikolai's ass on more than one occasion, although he got the best of me the other times. I'm trying to read everything I've missed, but these two loudmouths beside me

Adrian's POV The cold winter air rushes against my face as I sprint through the woods. I feel Max wanting to shift, but I don't want him to—not yet. He's still weak from the rejection. I took a hit from it, but my wolf took a bigger hit. It's why it takes us so long to heal from a rejection. Our beautifully designed fast werewolf healing is done by our wolf. They have the ability to heal our bodies incredibly fast. The higher the rank, the faster you heal. The lower the rank, the slower you heal. What would normally take a human days or weeks to heal will take us hours or days. Rejection hurts our wolf more than it hurts us. It takes them a long time to recover from losing a part of their soul. A mate isn't just anyone; it's your soulmate. It's a person born with a piece of your soul, and when you're together, your soul is complete as you become one. It's the reason mates are stronger together, but it's also the reason it affects us so much when rejected. Max is still healing, and

Alaric's POVI always enjoyed fucking with him. Adrian was too easy to rile up. It hardly took anything to piss him off and get him to fight me. That little shit always gave me a run for my money. I would never tell him, but he's a good fighter. He gave me a challenge instead of backing down like everyone else. At first, I hated it. The audacity of that little Beta talking back to me, standing his ground, and stepping up to me pissed me off like nothing else. But then I grew to love it. I loved the challenge, and so did my wolf, a little too much. Zion looked at Adrian like a game of chase. Nothing excites an Alpha more than chasing someone, and he sure puts up a fight during that figurative game of chase… I think that's the reason my wolf fell for him. I didn't realize it until it was too late, and by then, my wolf was in love.I never imagined my stupid wolf would fall for the enemy. It frustrated me beyond belief. The only way to get rid of those frustrations was to take it out on

Third Person's POV Skylar slowly walked through the training field with his right arm hooked with Weston's. They slowly strolled through the large field where the center was covered with mats for sparring and the outer edge was unfinished. The conversation between them was light and sweet. Weston was persistent in finding out everything there was to know about his mate. The Omega was timid and blushed as he answered simple questions. His favorite color was easy to answer, but his favorite dessert was a hard one. There were too many sweets he loved, and he couldn't choose just one. The way his eyebrows drew together as he struggled to come up with an answer made Weston laugh and pull him closer, causing warmth to spread through the Omega's chest. Art watched as they walked off. He turned his attention to Nikolai when the young Alpha walked past him. It was like dangling a carrot in front of a horse. The Alpha's eyes were on Nikolai in an instant, and he turned to watch him. In an instant, Leonard's knee is against his chest, his left hand is around his throat, and his right is cocked back for a kill shot. “How do you expect to be my Alpha, if you can't last more than 3 minutes with me?” Leonard said before releasing the young Alpha's throat. Nikolai rolled onto his hands and knees, coughing. His back was killing him, and he was hot. He pulled himself to his feet and growled as he tore his shirt off and threw it to the side. Leonard chuckled as he took his position on the mat. “ Is that supposed to help you?” The commander teased, and Nikolai rolled his eyes.“I don't know, maybe it will,” Nikolai said before mumbling under his breath, complaining how hot

He smiled in satisfaction and pulled his warm body closer to him. So many thoughts race through Alaric's head as he watches his mate slowly wake up. When Adrian is lying in his arms, his fears and internal battle disappear. The only thing on his mind, is his beautiful Beta, who lies naked beside him, legs tangled, bodies flush together The Alpha's lips tug up when Adrian hums, licks his lips, and begins searching for him with his face. Skylar's POVI watched him cook as he talked to me. I couldn't take my eyes off of him as I sat at the counter. He knows my biggest secret, and he's not going to walk away or spread the word and tell everyone he knows. He's accepting me, even though I'm different…I'm a sucker for his scrambled eggs and cheese, but it's been awhile since I've had a sunny side up egg. Weston placed a plate in front of me as he sat down beside me with his own. I licked my lips when I saw how perfectly seasoned they were with salt and pepper. The toast was perfect! Not too light and not too dark, and the bacon was crispy. It was a perfect breakfast! I licked my lips as I grabbed my toast. Weston laughed when I dove in with my toast and murdered the yolk, wiggling the toast into it until it broke, and then proceeded to soak my toast with all the gooey substance. “Man, that was some determination!” Weston said while laughing. “What?” I asked before shoving the soaked toast into my mouth. “The way you

Skyler's POV I wake up more warm and comfortable than I've ever been. I nuzzle in against the warmth, and I feel something move along my back. That's when I feel it, tingles dancing everywhere. It was like they waited until I was conscious enough to come to life. It's not every day I wake up on top of him. My heart skipped, and my pulse quickened. I feel his chest rising and falling with each breath he takes. I could hear his heart beating as his fingers soothingly caressed my back. My stomach fluttered when I felt him move and kiss my forehead. His finger gently gripped my chin and lifted my head until our eyes met. When they did, my stomach fluttered again. He had a soft smile and hummed as his eyes swept over my face. “Hmmm… Good morning, beautiful,” He said, and I swooned. Beautiful? Me? Third Person's POV Nikolai was relieved that Arthur returned to his normal self once they were in the car. Thankfully, the air smelled clean of rogues. The only thing they could smell was the residual stench from burning the bodies.Once Leo parked the car, Arthur quickly exited the car, and in the blink of an eye, he disappeared to run a lap around the packhouse. “Holy shit! He's fucking fast!” “Nikolai!” Victor scolded. “What?”“I know you're old enough to cuss, but ease up on it in front of me. I'm your father! • A Beta's Heart   Chapter 51 Merle

Third Person's POV The evening was winding down, and the only packs remaining at Arthur's were Victor's and Alpha Merle's. Merle is a quiet Alpha who sticks to himself. His pack is located at the farthest Northwest end of the peninsula. It's the most rural part of the peninsula, tends to be the coldest, and gets the most snow, making it the least desirable area to build a pack. Because of this, Merle doesn't have much of a threat, especially since no other packs are near him. He has no allies, but not because he was refused. It was rather because he hadn't requested one, and the few people who had reached out to him, he turned down. He doesn't attend any of the events, such as mating ceremonies. The only things he attends are the mandatory Alpha convention and the annual celebration. To say everyone was surprised to see Merle attend Arthur's party would be an understatement. It wasn't mandatory, and he didn’t bring all his unmated members, which would have explained why he was the

He looks back at his terrified Omega, whose eyes are filled with tears. “NOW! RUN!” Weston yelled before turning and shifting in one fluid motion. Third person's POV The day was exceptionally warm for early spring in Michigan's upper peninsula. There was hardly a cloud in the sky and nearly no wind. When the wind did blow, it was light and surprisingly warm. The sun was set high in the sky, shining down on his light tan skin, which looked like it'd been kissed by the Sun. His eyes sparkled as he grabbed a grape and popped it in his mouth. Skyler intensely watched Weston remove a block from the tower. He covered his eyes when the tower wobbled. When he didn't hear it fall, he peeked through his fingers as his mate successfully placed the wooden block on top. “Haha! Yes! Look at those skills!” Weston said excitedly. Skyler smiled at Weston but frowned when he realized it was his turn. The Jenga tower was taller than ever and became more unstable with each piece moved.
