Shortly a knock was heard on the door and Norton, Clyde's personal assistant, walked in graciously as usual. He bowed briefly and reported “Mr Adric the chairman wishes to see you.”
Standing up Clyde arranged his suit and marched towards the door but stopped on his track when he remembered something. Having a bleak expression on his handsome face he turned to the woman beside him.
“Before I forget, when you are done taking a tour around my office you should leave.” he replied coldly, not giving her a glance. “And please I would appreciate it if you don't ever show your face in my work place again.”
Ava turned immediately and she heard those words that came out of Clyde's mouth but all she saw was an open door since Clyde left before she could notice.
Ava wondered how her beautiful relationship with her son came to this. Perhaps it was all her fault and she needed to carry her cross now. Biting her lips she tried to hold back the tears that had threatened to fall ever since she stepped into his office. However it all resulted in an epic fail because she suddenly collapsed on the floor and began to sob softly.
Meanwhile Clyde, who was on his way to the chairman's office, stopped halfway and with a glint of emotion in his eyes he looked back and let out a deep sigh.
Norton noticed the look on his boss's face and couldn't ignore it, so he asked after a deep sigh“Mr Adric are you alright?”
Having the cold look back on his face, Clyde simply replied “I am fine, let's head to the chairman's office. We shouldn't keep him waiting.”
Having a glum facial expression, Clyde watched as the chairman of the company he worked at, ate to his satisfaction. However he was immersed in his own thoughts, hence he did not speak much but only watched.
Getting tired of watching the Chairman eat in a hasty manner, Clyde opened his mouth to say something but instantly kicked against it and kept mum instead. Just then the chairman hit a bell and the waiter walked in with another plate of vegetables spaghetti with extra toppings.
Clyde knew too well that the chairman was going to keep him here for a long time and he never wanted that, so after mulling over the issues for a while, he decided to start a conversation.
“So what was it you needed to tell me Mr chairman?” his voice came out calm as usual following the faint expression he had on his face.
The old man who was in the middle of twirling a few strands of spaghetti into a ball, halted and narrowed his gaze at Clyde. After a few minutes of being mum he resumed eating his meal and said “You should order something to eat too, the food here is really delicious.”
Clyde let out a deep sigh and frostily he replied “You know too well that I don't eat out Mr chairman.” he looked at his wrist watch and noticed the time fleeting so fast, and just when he wanted to say something the chairman caught him off guard.
“Drop the honorifics Clyde, will you?” the chairman's facial expression stiffened as he spoke. Dropping his cutlery, he wiped his mouth with a napkin and sat upright. “When will you get married? Huh? You almost thirty already”
Clyde was taken aback for a moment, only to realize that the old man in front of him was unaware that he wasn't going to get married anytime soon. He quickly replied in a sneer “I am not going to get married, not now, perhaps never.”
The chairman didn't make any comment. He simply kept mum and only looked at the young man in front of him. Despite being someone that has gone through a lot in life, he was still confused about Clyde.
“What exactly was Clyde's problem? Is there something he's keeping away from me? Or he just hasn't seen someone he loves yet?”
“Why don't you want to get married?” the chairman reached for the glass of water in front of him and gulped it all down.
Clyde simply remained silent as he stared into space. This was what he was trying to avoid in the future, this very question of the chairman and now is the time to answer since he was being asked.
“Clyde!” when Clyde didn't answer him, the chairman was enraged. He banged on the open space of the table and hollered “I'm talking to you! Answer me! let's see what nonsense reason you would give me this time!”
Prior to this, Clyde has known the chairman to be very short tempered and strict. Hence he did not utter a word at the moment to avoid the chairman from yelling any further.
Not that Clyde was very much embarrassed that people might stare at them, since they were in a private room but because he was tired of taking drugs every night to calm his nerves.
Being mum at this moment seemed to have gotten the chairman so infuriated that he stood up in rage and scattered the table, making everything fall into a crash.
Only then did Clyde look up and face him with a cold expression “I don't want to get married because I don't want to.” with a stiffened smile he added “What is the use in getting married when I'm not capable of it? Marriage reminds me of father and mother as they fall apart.
Who knows if my marriage would also fall apart? I've always been on my own living like a monster and I don't tolerate anyone staying with me. Grandfather you know everything about me, so don't talk like you don't.”
The chairman suddenly slumped in his chair and took a deep breath. Clyde was far too right and his grandfather was suddenly short of words.
Reminiscing on what he had just said, Clyde realized that he had said too much to the extent that he was extremely emotional, something he had always hated.
After keeping quiet for a while, the chairman spoke “Aren't you tired of Ferguson treating you like trash? Doesn't working as a director under ferguson churn your skin?” he clasped his hands together “Ferguson is returning from italy tomorrow.”
The chairman was correct, he has always hated Ferguson treating him like trash when he was older than ferguson. When Peter, Clyde's father was alive, he was at the verge of taking over the company but death took him away before he could even sign the papers. Years later and it was time for Clyde to be the Ceo and owner of the company but it didn't work out since he had refused to get married and have a child. And now Matthew, Clyde's uncle who was supposed to be the Ceo of the company handed it over to his son Ferguson, who was now the present Ceo of the company. Ever since Ferguson became the Ceo and Clyde the managing director who worked under him, it was never easy for Clyde since going to work everyday suddenly became like stepping on fiery charcoal. Was it humiliation publicly? Embarrassment? Or curses? Clyde endured all of it throughout the years. It was a fair game but too fair that it slapped Clyde's so hard on the face. He had a reason for not wanting to get married but hi
Puzzled, Amelia reached for her face and indeed it was stained with tears. Her perfect happy face was now replaced with a groggy one. When she finally understood what was going on, a scoff escaped her lips and she turned to her grandfather. “Why else do you think I'm crying grandpa?!” she sneered and resumed eating her food. Meanwhile her grandfather was still taken aback by her current change of mood. Hence he uttered no words but simply stared at her. Amelia knew her grandfather was staring at her so she avoided meeting with his eyes. However she felt her heart thumping when she saw how he was looking at her. Getting fed up she dropped her spoon in a bang. She knew he needed an answer and she was determined to give him one. “Grandpa, I was crying because you told me that you were going to take the food away if I don't slow down.” she said truculently and pushed her hair back. “Do you think it's fair? Why would you scold a grown up lady?” Her grandfather remained silent as he s
Getting out of the car, Norton closed the door in a bang and rushed over to the front only to see a young lady on the floor who was searching her body to see as if she had lost a gem. Having a baffled facial expression, Norton rushed to the young lady and squatted in front of her before he asked “Are you ok ma'am? Did you perhaps lose anything?” Amelia, who was so engrossed in searching her body for blood that she didn't notice the presence of the young man in front of her... slowly raised her head and immediately she heard his voice. Having seen him for the first time, Amelia felt as though she had seen him before. Ignoring his questions, she darted her gaze from him and to her legs again still searching for blood. Just when she didn't find any, she rubbed her stomach softly and let out a sigh of relief. “I am fine, thank you for your concern.” Amelia let out a smile and tried to stand, when Norton offered to help her instead. “Not all that ma'am, I almost hit you with the car a
Entering into his office in rage, Clyde loosened his necktie and walked straight to his desk scattering everything that was on it. He was obviously frustrated and needed something to vent his anger on.His previously paled face was now flushed red with fury. Tears welled up in those crystal clear eyes of his but he banged on his desk to stop them from touching his cheeks.Prior to this, he had swore never to cry for anyone after his mother left him when he was ten and his first love betrayed him. But right now he was helpless, having no one by his side and all he could do was cry.Letting the tears fall down on his flawless face, he let out a scream “Why? Why me?!” Luckily the office was sound proofed, therefore no one could tell what was going on inside. He fell on his knees and began to sob softly, rubbing his neck at the same time. After crying for a while, he cleaned his tears and stood up. Just when he wanted to take his seat, his right hand began to tremble which caused tears t
Amelia was seated on the couch opposite her grandfather in the sitting room. They were both mum and Amelia felt tense as she played with her fingers. Realizing that nobody was ready to say a word, Amelia sighed and decided to take the initiative to speak to clear the misunderstanding between them. “Grandfather!” she blurted out. Her hands grew a little clammy as she clutched her clothes; it was probably due to her fraying nerves. Taking a deep breath, she continued slowly, “Grandfather I can...” “Who is the father of your unborn child?” her grandfather interrupted her words as he stared at the ultrasound report in his hands. With his facial expression, one could tell he was disappointed. If there was a word more suitable for it then, the word disappointed was nowhere close to how he felt. He had lots of trouble raising her and hoped for her to one day live her dream and not end up like his daughter, her mother. However, it was already too late he felt so defeated. *Just why has
The weeks ran so fast that it was beginning to scare the hell out of Amelia. She had turned three months today and here she was again, standing in front of a mirror with her eyes fixed on her protruding belly. Sighing she walked back to her bed and sat down. The thought of going to work alone was beginning to scare her a lot. Her stomach has gotten a bit big that it can be noticed if one could take a closer look. Again if she doesn't go to work there will be no guarantee that she could pay the rent since the expiration date for the last one was drawing close. “Oh sweet lord” she rubbed her forehead softly as she was beginning to develop a headache from thinking too much. A small smile appeared on her lips and she placed her hands on her stomach before speaking. “Kiddo can you help me? Mom is going through a lot and the only way to keep making a living is by hiding you.” She stood up and walked over to the mirror again. As she stared directly at her stomach through the mirror, her
Arriving in front of the hospital, Amelia quickly alighted from the taxi and ran her way through inside the hospital. As she entered the hall, a doctor directed to the room where her grandfather was hospitalized. The moment she entered the room, her eyes came in contact with a body covered with plain white clothing. “What is going on?” Amelia asked the doctors in a trembling voice. The doctor in charge of her grandfather bowed his head to avoid her fiery gaze and swollen facials. “My grandpa is not the person under the white clothing, is he?” Amelia asked again, this time her tears flowed on her cheeks and she wiped them with her thumbs. She was already losing it and it was obvious. Even without the doctor telling her, she already knew that her grandfather was no more. She was no fool, but as much as she wanted to accept the fact that her grandfather was dead, she just couldn't. “I'm sorry, Miss Amelia.” The doctor finally said and sighed afterwards before leaving them alone A
Amelia walked out of the jewelry shop feeling defeated. She was unable to sell the wristwatch as she had planned. She still could not bring herself to believe that the bastard who had forced himself on that night was the director of Adric designer's company. “What should I do? Should I just meet with him?” Amelia stopped on her track and asked out loud. Before she could come to a conclusion, another call from her grandfather's phone interrupted her. Amelia let out a loud sigh after realizing that it was the cake guy who had called her earlier. After a few seconds of hesitance, her fingers swiped to the answer option.“Hello sir, I will be there in a jiffy.” Amelia hung up before he could even speak a word.Afterwards she flagged down a taxi and it did not take time for her to arrive at the store. “Why didn't you come earlier to pick up the cake? Seriously, you kept me waiting!” The man in charge of the cake store scolded.“I'm sorry, I have been busy. Also, I didn't know that he or
Outside the office was Norton as he stood in front of the door keeping watch. Although the office was sound proofed, he couldn't risk anyone finding out about the situation at hand.“Is she really pregnant with Mr. Adric?” Norton itched the back of his head as he asked himself. In all his five years of working with Clyde, he had come across different women claiming to have a child for his boss. But no matter how much he thinks about it, there is something peculiar and true about this particular woman. As the saying goes, the first meeting is a coincidence and the second is fate. Now that he thinks about it, their meeting wasn't really a coincidence but actually meant something.“I wonder how Mr. Adric is doing. I just hope everything goes well.” Norton muttered. He glanced at the watch on his wrist and sighed afterwards. It has already been over an hour since the young lady entered. At that moment in time, the door burst open and it revealed the angry Amelia who grumpily walked out
In the conference room, the timer in front of Clyde stopped three seconds after the briefing of the art team leader. His lips curved into a satisfactory smile as he flipped through the pages of the file in front of him. It was obvious he enjoyed the briefing presented by the art team. “Good job, everyone. I particularly enjoyed today's briefing. Also, always bear in mind to go beyond our customers expectations by working hard. Today's result is awesome doesn't mean that it will be the same tomorrow. Meeting dismissed.” Clyde concluded the meeting and returned to his office, only to meet his secretary and a young lady waiting for him.“What is going on here?” Clyde turned to Norton with a frown, expecting an explanation from him.“Mr. Adric, this young lady claims to have something very important to tell you.” Norton informed and left the office afterwards.Sighing, Clyde rubbed his temple as he walked to his desk and sat down. He loosened his neck tie and averted his amber eyes to
