Misunderstanding

Scarlett's POV

His voice remained eerily calm as he spoke, but his emotionless face told a different story.

"Whoever took that picture chose the wrong moment. If only they'd captured me slapping him, it would be clear I'm telling the truth. Why just one photo? Why wasn't it numerous? I can't explain it, but there's no reason for me to kiss a masked stranger. It's not like you'd let me kiss you, even if I wanted to. I wasn't desperate for a kiss. I could hug my pillow if I needed to. I didn't ask for his kiss because I'm not addicted to kissing."

He glanced at me, skepticism written all over his face. I suppressed a pathetic hiss, wiping away my tears in secret.

Couldn't he just believe me, and tell me nevermind, so we'll drive back to the mansion? I wasn't physically and emotionally fit for this discussion, and glancing at me alone should make it obvious to this man that I was sick.
