CHAPTER 55: REVELATIONS AND DECISIONS

Isabella stopped abruptly and placed a hand on her chest, struggling to coordinate her breathing. The mark behind Nicholas's ear was still fixed in her mind.

"God, it can't be..." she whispered. "This... can't be..." Her hands were still shaking uncontrollably, and her body was cold; one could say she was in shock. "He... Is he my son?" she murmured, her eyes filling with tears. "Is Nicholas my son?"

There was a mix of emotions inside her: happiness, sadness... fear. Fear of what might come if it turned out to be true.

"I have to find out," she told herself. "I have to see if Nicholas is really my son; it might just be a coincidence."

Although deep down, she was convinced it wasn't. Wiping away her tears and steadying her breath, she made a decision.

"I'm going to do it. I'm going to find out if you are my son or not."
