Chapter: Chapter Eighteen For the third time that morning, Abby emptied her stomach into the toilet bowl. Exhausted and drained, she collapsed back onto the cool tiled floor, as she evened her breathing. Once she had flushed, brushed her teeth and splashed some water on her face, she strolled back into the hotel room. For the past two days the room had been painfully silent and everytime the sun disappeared behind the night sky, she felt herself missing him.Every attempt to reach out, as usual, had been futile. Anthony never returned any of her calls or texts. Soon anger simmered quickly in her chest. She dialed his number again and to her surprise, the call connected this time. “Anthony…” her voice nearly crackled. She calmed her nerves, maintaining the strength in her voice. “Where are you? I've been calling you for two days!”“I'm at a motel. Is there a problem?” Her brows quickly drew into a frown. “What'd you mean is there a problem?” She couldn't believe her ears. “Where are you? We need to talk.”

Chapter: Chapter Seventeen Shit. Shit. Shit.Chris could hear his heart hammering in his ears as he sat still, his hands cuffed together. Detective Klein stood across the room, quietly speaking into his walkie, relaxed and unaware of the storm building up inside Chris.Rhodes had stepped out for a bathroom break. That left Chris alone with the detective—and one shot.Klein looked like he could hold his own. Broad shoulders, lean build, dressed in a tailored suit that hinted at a gym habit. But even the strongest man could be taken down if he didn’t see it coming.Chris’s gaze dropped to the pen on the table. It wasn’t a weapon. Not really. But it was the only thing he could use.Chris shifted in his seat carefully, his muscles tense as he gingerly rose to his feet, without managing to to scrape the floor with his chair. Slowly, he reached for the pen and neared Detective Klein. In one swift move, he'd lunged at him and with a force he didn't know he had, slammed Klein's head into the wall. The sound was sicke

Chapter: Chapter Sixteen“I already told you I didn't do it Abby.”Abby wanted to believe him. Heck, she wanted to trust him this time but something about his changed demeanour was holding her back.“So why not answer my question Anthony?” She exhaled slowly. “Where were you before you flew down to New York?”Anthony rose to his feet. “I already told you I was in Massachusetts.”“It’s cold in here Anthony, why does it look like you're sweating?” She asked, watching him as he paced around the room. Panic flashed in his eyes as he looked down at his shirt where there were infact, small patches of sweat stains.“If you're here to carry out some stupid investigation, then let me know and I'll leave the room for you,” he retorted, his tone a little too high for comfort. She remained silent for sometime and finally spoke up. “You're the one who killed that man, aren't you?”Something flared in Anthony's eyes. This time it wasn't fear, it was disgust. There was no proof that he'd killed the man on the roof. Not a s

Chapter: Chapter Fifteen Chapter Fifteen “And you think that’s our guy?” The detective asked. Sarah nodded.“He looks similar to the guy you're looking for and ever since the whole case got publicized, he vanished. No one heard from him, no one saw him.”Detective Banes stared at her. “Did you notice anything suspicious before the murder took place? Maybe he bought something odd or…?”Sarah shook her head, slightly embarrassed. “No, we don't live together but I just have a feeling he has something to do with this,” she replied.Banes shot her a weary look and got out a notepad. “What's his full name?”“Anthony Wells.”He frowned. “The Anthony Wells of Wells and co?” He almost laughed. “Anthony would never.”Sarah frowned. “I'm not joking. This isn't some sort of prank-”“Lady, I don't know who you are to him but Anthony Wells would never be involved in something like this. He's a busy man, you know? He probably travelled out on some business trip,” the man replied.Sarah felt stupid and frustrated. She knew

Chapter: Chapter Fourteen Sarah had been following up on the murder case for quite a while and she thought it was odd that Anthony Wells had disappeared— vanished into thin air. Not only that, Abby had gone mute ever since. It was like she didn't want to engage in conversations regarding the case— like she didn't want to spill something.“I still don't get it. One minute you're talking about spending the entire month with me and now you're leaving?”Abby sighed and placed her suitcase on the bed. “Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you on time. It just came up yesterday and I have to be at work by tomorrow afternoon.”Lies. Sarah could smell them.“You said you had one month off, so why the sudden disruption?”Abby clasped her hands together. She was starting to grow irritated. “I've already explained everything to you Sarah. It's work and I have to be there as soon as possible.” She shook her head. “You’d understand if you had a job, Sarah.”Surprised at her sisters sudden outburst, Sarah let it die down. Bringin

Chapter: Chapter ThirteenAnthony's chest rose and fell as he locked eyes with the lifeless man. Shit, shit, shit! No, he hadn't planned on attacking the man— killing him even but there was no way he'd left 1 man talk to the cops. No, that wasn't an option either. He checked his clothes, his fingers and his shoes. There were no blood stains. Panic filled, he dragged the body behind an abandoned stack of air conditioning vents that'd been left to nothing. Once he was sure the body was well hidden, he briskly hurried down the stairs, slowing down as he neared the event hall. The music drowned the thudding in his chest. “Anthony!” His mother called from a group of guests that'd circled around her. “I've been looking all over the place for you.”“I had to find the men's room,” he replied, easing his tensed nerves and stuffing both hands into his pocket. “I actually thought I'd head home. I'm fagged out.”With a kiss to her forehead, he turned around and left, hurrying towards his car parked outside. .What th
