Chapter: 8- A Birthday Celebration Over the last three months, life in college had been generally good to me. Classes had been tough but I was able to pull through. I had been able to turn in projects and assignments in quickly and generally my grades were great. College also blessed me with the gift of friendship. Liana, Devon, Terrence, Houston, Maya, Kimberly and Iris were truly the best friends anyone could ask for. They were so supportive and really brought out a side of me I didn't even know existed. They brought me out of my reserved shell and made me do stuff I never thought I could ever do. I remember when I introduced Liana to the group, I was extremely nervous about how she would receive them and how they would too. They already knew about themselves because I told Liana about the group and I also told the group about Liana. Then one day after class when we were heading to the cafeteria when we were almost at the door I heard someone call my name. I turned back and discovered it was Liana. I shouted at the

Chapter: 7- More New Friends and Professor AlbaThe first lecture actually went on smoothly and the professor was actually nicer than I expected. He answered questions that were asked and took his time to explain to those who didn't understand. He was still explaining a question that a red haired girl had asked when the bell rang."Okay class, that's a wrap for today. I'll send the material for today and next week's class to your mails. Please make sure you read ahead and feel free to ask questions about anything that you're finding difficult to understand. See you all next week," he said as he gathered up his notes and took his leave.Immediately the professor stepped out of the class, the whole class turned into a noise base. Almost everyone was talking at the same time, trying to make new friends and get to know each other. The shy and nerdy ones who didn't speak to anyone also packed up and left. I sat in the middle of the bustle for about ten minutes before I decided to leave too.As I was putting the last of my items into the

Chapter: 6- Official First DayThe blaring alarm pierced the morning silence, jolted me awake from my slumber. It was loud that I nearly fell off my bed in fear. I looked at the time and it was precisely 7:30. I groaned as I thought why I even set the alarm to ring so early. Still groggy and disoriented, I fumbleb to silence the intrusive sound because my ears felt like they were about to pop any minute from them. The peace of the silence only lasted for about few seconds before I remembered "Oh shit," I remembered and screamed as i clap my hands over my mouth. How could I have forgotten that today was my official first day in college?I looked over and saw that Liana was still asleep. How could she have slept through the noise of the alarm? That didn't matter because if I didn't wake her up now, we would be super late and I wouldn't want that happening to any of us. Rubbing my eyes, I stumbled towards Liana's bed, I looked at her wrapped in a ball on the bed while she remained sound asleep. She still looked beauti

Chapter: 5. Finally, A New FriendI took a deep breath as I stared at the large building before me. It was everything I imagined and more. From the electronic doors to the somewhat tinted glass windows and the well trimmed grasses, I couldn't believe I was starting college already. However, after the excitement came the nervousness. Was I truly ready to do this? Could I even do it? These thoughts ran through my head almost every night since I had gotten my acceptance letter in the mail.I looked up again at the white building and remembered everything I had been through the last two months and my entire life. How the job at the library had wearied me out and I didn't have a choice but to cope with it. The struggle to save the money I was earning while cutting down on a lot of my personal expenses. How I had to make sure I had top grades throughout high school to ensure that I at least got a tuition scholarship. These thoughts only strengthened my resolve to finish what I had started.Without thinking, I went through t

Chapter: 4- It's Getting Better I think the best decision I've actually made in my life was leaving my parents home and deciding to do it all on my own. It really hasn't been easy but at least I've experienced more and being Mr Lampton's assistant has helped me evolve in who I am as a person. I've learnt more on how to curb my temper and emotions even in the craziest of situations. This is due to the fact that many people who have come into the library just have a knack of getting my nerves. If it wasn't some horny motherfucker trying to get into my pants, it was some kids their parents just dropped off as a means to get rid of them for a while so that they can have sometime to themselves. All in all I was just really frustrated but I couldn't also help but be grateful. I had a roof over my head and the pay was also good. I had been able to save enough to pay for stuff in college and also have some extra cash to get a few things for myself. It's now been a month since I left home and not even one of my family member

Chapter: 3 - Being Mr Lampton's Assistant The sound of my alarm startled me awake and for like five minutes, I was trying to figure out why I woke up in a strange room instead of my house. I started looking around when all of a sudden, the events of the previous day rushed into my memory and I remembered that the library basement was my new home. I looked at the time and noticed it was already 8 am and the library is supposed to open at 8:30am.I immediately jumped out of my bed and raced to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and probably took the fastest shower I have ever taken in my life. I picked out a checkered shirt and my blacked washed jeans pairing with it my converse before picking up my phone and checking the time. It was 8:20 am. I almost heaved a sigh of relief as I walked out of my room into the main library.Immediately I opened the library doors for the day, Mr Lampton walked in with a big smile on his face and two takeout bags. looked at him weirdly, I mean who was this happy so early in the morning? Certainly
