Chapter: 14Aria’s POVWhen Jaxon dropped me off in my room, I had planned to just sleep for as long as I could. I didn't want to think about the fact that Moonclaw Pack members were found dead right here in StarCross borders. I had enough on my plate already and even though I had a vendetta against MoonClaw I wasn't ready to address that just yet.But my plans to sleep in were cut short as immediately after the Pack's physicians checked me and gave me the clear, I noticed some neatly dried leaves well hidden in my wardrobe.Evelyn must have left them there just like I requested. She didn't question me when I asked her for a poisonous plants, despite her eyes housing a thousand questions.Evelyn said that they were tasteless, but the smell they’d give off wasn’t going to be hidden to the framed nose. She also told me that ten boiled leaves could kill a full-grown man in less than twenty minutes. But if I used one or two? They would only cause harm, fatigue, dizziness, maybe even temporary paral

Chapter: 13Jaxon's POV. War was coming. I felt it in the wind, and I could see it in the reports that landed on my desk. I had dropped Keira off and went to the meeting to be met with silence. And you know what they always say about the silence that always came before a storm. Chief Trore stood in front of me now, arms folded, brows furrowed. He held himself up well, but it was quite obvious that he was tense. "There's growing aggression in three territories, one is a minor one." He said. "Ours, the Moon Claw pack, and the Iron Rock pack. Minor scuffles so far, just border patrols clashing, traders getting intercepted, false accusations flying around." "Which of them started it?" I asked, already knowing the answer. "Depends on who you ask, sir." Trore said. "Each one blames the other. Nobody's claiming responsibility, and everyone's acting like they're the victim." I leaned back in my chair and sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "I don't want a war." I muttered. "But if it

Chapter: 12Aria's POV. I stared at the flowers for a long time after Zie went quiet.Something felt wrong at her sudden silence. I expected to keep on nagging me non-stop about how this was a bad idea but she was mute.I guess that's a good thing then, I could finally think. The meeting went well, which was a clear sign that Jaxon hasn't figured out that I wasn't Keira…yet. But that's not an excuse for me to relax, I needed to plan ahead.I needed to start off with the one person that knew this Pack like the back of their palm..Jaxon.I needed to know the in and out of this Pack as well as its weaknesses, strengths, secrets and whatever things I could find on it.Because if I'm not able to kill Jaxon, this information might come in handy to make sure my head was still on my neck.I took a quick shower and put on a soft pink dress, the kind that made me look like I was made of petals and silk. Zie had mentioned once that Keira liked petals. I didn't know if this shade was one of her favorites,

Chapter: 11Aria’s POV. I was tired. Not physically. But the kind of tiredness that came from holding in too much, pretending too hard, listening to a voice that never shut up. Zie had been talking all night and morning. Endlessly, and always about one thing. I understood, but I needed my sleep. “Keira deserves justice, wherever she is.” She said for what had to be the one millionth time. “She deserved peace and protection. And none of you gave her that. None of you.” I rolled over in bed and shoved my face into the pillow. And then I screamed. Good thing the pillow muffled my scream so nobody came in running, but it was loud enough to make my throat sting. “Are you finished?” Zie asked, coldly. “Really? I should be asking you that!” I growled. “Because last I remember, I’m trying to keep the only identity I have left, so maybe shut up for five minutes?” Silence. “You mean Kiera’s identity, you fucking witch!” I sat up slowly, dragging a hand through my tangled hair. The li

Chapter: 10Aria's POVLooking good is good business they say, and given that this was the first council meeting both Kiera and I were attending in this Pack I planned on leaving an impression–a really good one.Thankfully Keira wasn't lacking in outfit departmentShe had a whole boutique if you ask me.It took a lot of time, but with Evelyn's help I finally settled for a satin tie-neck blouse in warm ivory, bow draped loosely, which I paired with an ivory colored high waisted pants, and a collarless ivory bouclé cropped jacket with raw-edge trim."Don't speak unless you're spoken to, Aria” I said to myself as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, feeling totally satisfied with my look. My hair was neatly packed in an updo, complementing my looks.Looking like Keira was one thing, being her was another. It wouldn't take other people so long to know that I wasn't her if I didn't learn her ways quickly. Zie sighed. "Well, at least you look the part." "Let's hope they don't see through it all

Chapter: 9Jaxon’s POV. Something about her was off. I couldn’t just ignore the feeling, no matter how much I tried to convince myself it was all in my head. Keira was different—and not in a “she survived death and got stronger” kind of way. No, this was deeper. It was in her eyes, in her manner… it was difficult to explain. She used to flinch when I raised my voice. But today she talked back to me whenever she felt like it. She used to tiptoe around me. She used to be quiet, forgettable, somehow she always stayed hidden even though she looked good. Now, she was anything but that. Now, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. And maybe that was the problem. I sat in my office chair, fingers drumming on the armrest. The memory of our last conversation played again in my head, her in nothing but a towel, looking so perfect, and then her palms landing on my cheeks like I was some pervert. Not that I hadn’t deserved it, but she used to blush if I looked at her for too long. The change was a drast

Chapter: Chapter 92"Good morning. I’m Dorothea Sinclair and welcome to today’s session of Under the Spotlight. I am sure that some of you are wondering where I am today and why this background looks different. That’s because, for this interview, I left the studio to conduct this interview in the home of our guest who is no stranger to the spotlight.” Dorothea announced. “Some of you might know her from September last year when she and her best friend, Isabel Gomez, were held hostage by two gunmen who kidnapped them from the club they both worked in. Some of you might also know her from her interview with me on this very show in March where we talked about her revolutionary app, Care Compass which was, and still is, making waves in the medical field. However, some of you might know her from everything that went down two months ago when she was kidnapped from a supermarket and held hostage for a week. Join me to welcome, the very beautiful and very intelligent, Cassie Peters.” She said and signaled to th

Chapter: Chapter 91The first time Cassie had woken up as a captive, she had thought that that would be the most pain she would ever be in. She remembered how much her head hurt and how she had ached all over. Waking up again, she found that she felt a thousand times worse. She owed the shitty feeling in her entire body to Robert fucking Smith. After she had been caught trying to escape, he dragged her by her hair to the very room that she had escaped from. She had tried to struggle against him but her muscles ached from running around the house and anytime she made any form of movement against him, Robert would pause along the hallway to deliver a series of kicks to her midriff. When they had finally got to the room, he had exerted the second phase of his revenge by reopening the cuts that had been made on her arm earlier that week and adding a couple of new ones with the help of his switchblade. He followed it by wrapping his gangly fingers around her neck and choking her, letting his nails dig into he

Chapter: Chapter 90When Felix finally awoke, he did so slowly, his vision blurry and his head heavy. Even as he was still half unconscious, he realized that he recognized the environment that he was in. It was all strangely familiar but yet, unsettlingly transformed. He was in a room in the Callahan mansion and judging from the size and layout of the room, he was in his old bedroom. The decor of the room had changed drastically since the last time he had been in the room. All of the posters of superheroes and bands had been taken down and replaced with modern art pieces. The color of the walls had been changed from a baby blue color to a dark gray one. His bedside table which had been formerly crowded with action figures and school books now spotted manila folders, stationery and a small potted cacti. The more Felix observed the room, the more it looked to him like someone had been staying there for a while. The hardwood floors had a few scuff marks on them at the points where the room’s furniture was.

Chapter: Chapter 89Felix stumbled over the phone as he clumsily tried to pick up the phone. “Cassie. Are you hurt? Do you know where you are?” Felix asked, each word tumbling out of his mouth quicker than a response could possibly be given. He pulled his laptop closer to himself and hurriedly started to launch the software that he had been working on ever since the night of Cassie’s disappearance. He had already set his phone so that whenever Cassie's phone came online, he would be able to track it. It had a lot of flaws but it was the best he could come up with in such short time. He couldn’t just download a regular cell phone locator off the internet to locate Cassie’s phone as she had built a series of safeguards for her phone to ensure that it was heavily guarded. She had everything on it apart from a proper password; it was both ironic and amusing. He had tried launching the app multiple times but the search always came up blank, indicating that her phone had been switched off. Now, it showed that

Chapter: Chapter 88She startled herself awake the next morning. There was no way for her to tell if anyone had entered the room while she was asleep. As she pulled herself from the ground, she decided that anytime she was going to fall asleep, she would do so with her back to the door so that if anyone were to try to enter the room, she would know. Throughout the entire day, she anxiously waited for someone to open the door but no one did. By the time it was evening, she got into the shower and had her bath again, this time putting on her clean and dry underwear, washing her dress and then hanging it close to the radiator so that it would dry faster. It was already dark out when the dress was dry enough for her to wear and when she left the bathroom, she found another cup of ramen and a bottle of water. She had started to worry that there was a camera in the room that Robert used to determine when she was in the bathroom to come and drop her food. Before she could think about it too much, she realized t

Chapter: Chapter 87By Cassie’s calculations, she had been Robert’s captive for six days. When she had realized that it had been him that had taken her, she had had a lot of questions, some of which she hadn’t been able to answer. Since when had he gotten out of prison? Was he working in conjunction with Big Daddy? Had he also been a part of her house being set on fire and Isabel getting shot? Would he also be going after Felix and the twins later? Where exactly was this house that he had taken her to?She still found it bizarre that he had had a hand in her kidnapping as she had forgotten all about him after she and Isabel had testified against him in court. She chided herself for not seeing it coming. His exact words to her as they had carted him into the squad car on the day of his arrest had been: I’ll get you for this you stupid bitch! That day, she had thought that his words were just an empty threat of a mad man; she had never expected him to make good on it.Judging by the fact that it had been d
