Chapter: Chapter 27
Clutching his staff, he drew upon the energies of the land. Seeping away at the remaining essence of his minimal verdure surroundings. He reached out further, away from the town. Further away from the ruined brick of the town, and emptied bones of the fallen Xanthites. He had to go further. Into the marshes. His magic touched the reeds, the lilies and the grass. Once his power touched them, he took their blessings. Seeping their life from their form. Turning what was once green and lively into nothing but a dying husk. Rejuvenated, he stands straight. Ready for the phase of the battle. The Druids moved first, slinking away in a haze of dusty and leaves. Moving deeper into the streets, they fired crossbows and hurled wreckage. The Fangsworn stayed, tossing javelins and charging without abandon. Their stronger variants, the leaders of the pack had retreated. Leaving the plasma fodder for the Kolysians.Ergonus cast his energies upon his surroundings, forcing floral growth to emerge from

Chapter: Chapter 26
The town square was the center of the conflict. The whistle of pirate plasma and the crack of their skelemek automatons rang high, all while the Fangsworn’s roars echoed as their Druids cast bizarre but powerful spells. Kolysians clashed with all the unorganized rabble of their pirate profession, backed up the more stoic movement and patterns of their veteran comrades. The Fangsworn rushed ahead, with javelins hurled as they ran from cover to cover. Massive blocks of stone and earth would emerge from the ground. Summoned by their Druid’s impressive magic. From edge of the Birchman line, Likaya spotted their target. The staff carrying Druid who had yanked her back into the damned town. Ergonus, was the name Froster overheard. When the pair slew one of the Druids, this Ergonus took that as a personal slight and hunted the squad. Chasing them down with a devastating Lightning Caller. The Druid was small when compared to his companions, he stood in stark

The rain soon fell weak, allowing the two a bit more space as the drains flowed less. But much time had passed, and the weariness had taken the better of them. “I have a plan.” Likaya announced, the weakness had left her voice and there wasn’t much strain as she moved to show Froster a map of the town.“The post office, there are sprites there. We had Brasidas scout for them remember?”“Are they messenger worthy?”“Not sure, I’ll assume yes but we can always spruce them up. We send them a message, confirming our survival. Then we set a rally point for Richardson and take the last working boat on the western docks.”Froster nodded in agreement.“We move as soon as we heal. So an hour perhaps?” Seemed too long, but he did want the rest.“Yes mam” He agreed.A silence fell upon the pair, one laced with enough serenity and

Chapter: Chapter 24
The Druid’s power was unexpected, the vortex it had created had sent the Kolysians into a panicked retreat towards Orobar Hill’s empty streets. While vineborn tendrils of the Druid’s lash had hurled the Lieutenant and the Captain back towards the ruined towns. There was a crack moment when the officers sensed what had to be done and had unleashed a torrent of telekinetic blasts to dampen their fall. They crashed onto a small shed a cloud of dust and splinters erupted. Froster’s hands were weak beyond measure, a spiking headache had bit onto his skull. A lifetime of training and experience led him to committing to a well timed forward roll that broke his fall. Keeping the momentum he stands up, searching for Likaya under the soot and debris. His eyes stung and a bruising pain stuck to his left side. His blast staeve was damaged, the hammer shattered a

The DragonWolves showed no emotion as the enemy closed in. Their eyes were focused and their faces stoic as Drent focused precise shots on the incoming boats. Kolysians perished or hid as their vessels broke down at the augmented bolts pouring from the voltiir’s autocross. The plan was simple, they would focus the pursuers onto a funnel. Damaging enemy boats at the angles of their formation, preventing them from fanning out and surrounding their warehouse. Any other unit would have needed two or maybe even three autocross teams or even a breaker cannon. But these were DragonWolves, she was witness to their skill in combat.

Able Froster was still in pain, what little food and medicine he had ingested had only done little to alleviate the pain. But it was reassuring that his Captain was around to well, be the superior officer. He had served under commanders who were not DragonWolves, needless to say he felt a disdain for them. But Likaya was different, she was confident in her role as an officer and an experienced soldier. Her mastery in the arcane was impressive, it lacked the carefree pride that most Battle Mages exhibited. Instead what Likaya brought was precise confidence in her spellcraft and accuracy expected of all soldiers. She was easy on the eyes as well. Not that, it was a factor in his judgement. He felt embarra

Chapter: Chapter 33
It was a sound that men of the 3rd Company rarely heard. The Company’s forces were meant for heavy infantry and slow attacks but that didn’t mean we had no idea what an arrow sounded like when it descended on its target. And that’s what happened, the barbarians had seemingly launched every arrow they could find at us. “Damn it” was the word in every soldier’s mouth now. “TESTUDO!” screamed every single officer; we immediately locked down our shields in place in anticipation of the terrifying onset of fear and anxiety that was already writhing and crawling in our bo

Chapter: Chapter 32
I was expecting the weather to turn dire and shower us all with some unneeded freezing rain, but surprisingly the weather stayed calm the whole day though, nothing wilder than a strong wind passed by. Varkii and I stayed at that supply tent till the next morning. I expected Trosdig to wake us up for the sake of Cohort solidarity but it seemed that he couldn’t care less, or perhaps he thought we were dead. … It wasn’t too long till I was awaken by a disturbing bright light shining brightening our resting spot, I expected it to be the Sunrise but instead it was just the one of the squads lighting up a massive bonfire for warmth. I look up into the sky and see the Moon shining brightly down upon us. “Serene isn’t it” I look behind me and see a woman standing behi

Chapter: Chapter 31
Though the distance between me and the Cohort was only a few short paces, my sprint to close that distance felt like a day’s worth of marching, and the howling growls of the charging barbarians did very little to satiate my panic. Once I joined my comrades, Varis immediately slaps me in the head and garbles some angry words at me; I couldn’t hear any, thanks to the rumble of guns and the bashing of shields. I stay in the back ranks for a while, watching the barbarians slam wildly into our well packed ranks. So far, no casualties, though the breach in the wall was still flooding with our rag armored opponents. Miraculously, the fighting seemed to die down for a moment, that’s when Trosdig finally found some time to berate me. “By Loki’s Children! What is your job here Mallic?” “I I I am A Soldier of Remas!” I stammer, but with enough of the vigor and passion that I once ha

Chapter: Chapter 30
It didn’t take too long for us to react and soon enough I had plunged my sword into the belly of a charging barbarian, I turn to face another but find none standing as the Captain’s bodyguard had quickly finished the last ones “Just a bunch of fast ones” Trosdig says as he hands me a shield, “We have to join the others” Exclaims one of the Centurions, who then begins our return back to our posts at the Eastern Wall. The crackle of gunfire forms an irregular but uplifting beat as the Gunners on the towers and the walls fire at will on our attackers. I look around and see glimpses of small groups of barbarians engaging Remanian soldiers or getting cut down by bullets and arrows, we later then passed one of the outer walls where the General’s bodyguard could be seen holding in the breach. But soon after navigating the twists and turns of the Encampment we had finally reached

“Retreat! Fall back!” echoed the all the other Legionnaires running towards us down the hill. Despite the confusion, Trosdig’s defiant orders could be heard amidst the deafening screams of fear. “Hold you cowards!” He screamed as he drew his sword and lifted it up into the sky. A shiver begins to crawl throughout my entire body. My fingers begin to uneasily shake. “Forward” Screamed our Centurion, and so we marched up the hill through the throng of our fear stricken comrades, some who were covered by terrifyingly large splatters of blood adorning their gear. We continued to mutter prayers and hum songs of encouragement until it became terrifyingly clear that we were not facing an enemy of the usual sort as the ring of its engine and the whirl of its blade

I pick up some mud from the ground and let it run through my fingers, allowing the descending mud to calm me down. “Gravlin Valley was not a simple stride. You think it was easy? I lost friends there too, people like you and I. Soldiers” I tell him “We faced the metal men and the hordes, I know what it feels like when the creaking of their gears echo across the field. And don’t forget we all fought in the Long War before all this? I mean for love of Providence, we all fought here against the Persians in the Long War didn’t we? Even if Captain Gilderscrowns did betray the principles, are we not all still part of the 17th Legion” I stare him in the eye hoping to bring my

Chapter: Chapter 21: Attention Seeker
The Arbiter had moved deeper into the avenue. In his wake, he had left many dead, dying or subdued. He had gone through two clips and his trigger finger had felt the quiet sting of fatigue. H-6 prayed for the gang’s surrender, but a few were still rallying their defiance. He caught a glimpse of them, through the sensor saturated blanket of his war visor. Older gangers would wave their weapons in blatant defiance, using their innate charisma and leadership to rally the younger ones back into the fight. That

The hologram snaked around the spire’s base. Bristling as it blared the consumerist propaganda upon the mesmerized masses above and below. Despite the rather oppressive symbolism that the holograms represented, there was an undeniable charm to their presence. Bright animated lights, dancing with writhing expression as they drew in the subconscious mindset of the city’s tired population.

Chapter: Chapter 17: The Compund
Leyland wasted no time, pulling up a map on their synced huds. Their AR glasses lit up as they entered the compound. Scanners showed nothing, life signs. Tech symbols and a few hazard warnings for a gas tank or two lying around. The pair paid good money for them, a hefty upgrade for their ocular implants. The compound, like the rest of the little community was a wreck. Scattered garbage, ruined crates and scrap waste hauled from the floodzones. It looked lived in. At least it was supposed to be, cooking equipment, dining tables. Scattered slippers, the sight of food left cooking .But, it was empty.

Chapter: Chapter 16: Flood zone Fringe Zone
Sol’s head had begun to clear by now, but still Leyland was driving. The two reviewed a few profiles of their little destination. Fringe Zones were entire city sections, filled with abandoned factories, ruined out shopping malls and even the rubble of entire residential blocks. Needless to say, in an overpopulated city like the Pacific Capital. The desperate and the outcasts tended to gravitate towards such places despite the constant flooding and the general neglect. Sergio Spiredeck’s east road was a steady downward drive that headed straight to Fringe Zone 26
