CHAPTER ONE: Breakup

last update Last Updated: 2024-04-02 21:07:08

“You’re two weeks pregnant,” Doctor Linda, my mother best friend, broke the news to me. Her voice gently but steady as her eyes filed with concern as they met mine.

My heart skipped a beat as I swallowed hard with my mind racing,”Are you sure?” I asked to confirm the results, and she confirmed it once more as she nodded her head.

“ Emelia, you have….”

“ Oh my God, I can't believe this.” I let out a loud, piercing scream of happiness, covering my mouth with both my hands.

Linda had a confused look on her face as she stared at me in awe. Yeah, I could understand her expression because to everyone, I had no boyfriend and was not seeing anyone and yet, here i was, pregnant.

Immediately she noticed I happy about the news, a smile of relief flashed across her face. Unable to contain my excitement any longer, I quickly grabbed the test results from her hand, pick up my bag and stood up from my seat, heading out of her office.

Not wasting any time, I proceeded to the antenatal clinic, but I was told it was too early to start now and had to come back after 8 weeks. I listened attentively to all the instructions given to me before heading out of their office.

Today had been very great. Everything seems to be falling perfectly into place. First, my fashion show was a success; I was one of the top designer in LA. Though I would not called myself number one, but I was still well known and respected by all. And now, I was expecting my prince or should I say princess.

“Oh my God, this is just so amazing…..” I murmured to myself as I swirled around and headed to the park, gently rubbing my stomach.

Just then my phone buzzed and his message came through;

"Meet me at Le Grand Brasserie. It's urgent," the message read, and I blushed as I read it, taking in my lower lip.

“Did he already have a feeling that we were having a child? Or maybe… don't tell me he wants to propose,” I said aloud as I squealed in happiness and started jumping up and down because May had already told me he saw Cassius at the ring store two days ago. I could see people's eyes on me as I screamed and jumped in happiness, but I didn't really care about what was going on in their mind.

Cassius Aldriche,The CEO of A&R holdings, was my man. He was every woman's dream and I would not actually lie; he had a reputation of a casanova but I changed him.

I composed myself as i quickly rushed into my car, and zoomed to the French restaurant where Cassius awaited. On getting to the restaurant, I could see a grand building right in front of me, and I was darn sure this must be very expensive.

“Ok sweetheart, you gotta compose yourself,” I murmured, taking a deep breath before I stepping inside.

As I walked into the restaurant and got on the elevator, I quickly slipped my hand into my bag, pulling out a mirror and my makeup. Checking the mirror, I applied a quick touch-up and a bit of red lipstick. As I noticed I was about to reach my destination, I put everything back into my bag and adjusted my long black wavy hair and plastered a very bright smile.

Emerging from the elevator, I admired the French restaurant, where a soft glow of candlelight created a warm and elegant atmosphere which makes the setting just so unique and on a completely different level.

"I'm Emelia Roderigo, I'm here to meet Cassius Aldriche," I informed the maître d’, with my heart fluttering because I was very sure something big was happening tonight.

The maître d' nodded with a knowing smile. "Right this way, Miss Emelia. Mr. Aldriche has been expecting you."

She led the way, I followed her through the opulent dining room and she led me to the VIP section where Cassius was. On sighting Cassius, whose back was facing me, I thanked the maître d' with a light bow and rushed closer to him, tickling him from behind, erupting a burst of laughter from him.

“Stop it, please…” Cassius begged as he couldn't stop laughing while I tickled him.

After a moment, I pitied him so I stopped and then gave him a light peck on his right cheek, leaving a red lipstick mark and then took my seat as we both exchange glances.

“You looked stunning," Cassius complimented, as he checked me out, making me blush.

“ Thanks.”

Stealing a glance at him, my gaze traced up the line on his Navy blue suit, to his chiseled jawline before settling on his full, well-defined lips as their natural pinkish hue beckoning me to to have a taste of it but I bit my lower lips trying to resist the temptation.

We ordered food immediately because I claimed to be famished, but that was just a lie. I was actually searching for something in the food; I must have watched too many dramas.

As we ate, we talked about our successful day; about my fashion show and he spoke about his new product that he launched. It’s such great news to hear that our days were filled with something good as we both got something amazing to share but I only told him about my successful fashion show, I didn't tell him about the pregnancy yet as It must come as a surprise to him.

Now, I was nearly done with my meal, but I hadn't seen anything yet. Drank a whole bottle of wine, maybe something would pop up, eat every single crumb of food, hoping to discover something small and special like a small size ring but I got nothing. I glanced around, looking at any waiter or waitress who would bring in more order or… bouquet.

“Do you want to order something more?” Cassius asked as he noticed my glancing around, my eyes met with his piercing blue eyes and I gently nodded with a smile.

I picked up my cutlery again and continued eating my food, and just then I saw Cassius tapping his feet against the floor, and I knew that it was time, and my heart was already swelling with love.

“Emelia, I got something to tell you,” Immediately he said that, my gaze fixed on the table and my grip tightened on the cutlery, ready to hear those four words that I had been eagerly longing for.

But why wasn't he using romantic pet names? Why did he called my name?

Raising my head, I met his gaze, and I could feel he’s tense about something, and he’s avoiding my gaze with his hands clenched together on the table, lower lip sucked in and this… was definitely not a proposal but something else entirely.

“Spill it out right…”

“I'm getting married,” he cut me off and broke news that shattered my entire world.

I was dumbfounded for a while and I found it hard to understand and comprehend what he just said. Was he joking with me right now? Breaking up with me at this stage? Maybe it's just part of his surprise for me because I couldn't understand a single thing that's happening right now but his eyes definitely shows that he was serious about this.

I dropped the cutleries, resting my elbow on the table, palms clenched together, resting on them as I tried to keep my emotion in check.

“For what reason?” I asked with a small scoff as I wanted to know my offenses and the reason for the suddenly demand of break up.

“I'm getting married to Mary,” he announced and I slowly raise my head and looked at him in awe.

I couldn't believe what he was saying right now or had my ear failed me? It took quite a while before the news settled in but I was not still sure of the Mary he's talking about.

“Cassius, are you joking with me right now? I thought you and Mary were done and that's why we began this relationship. You never told me that you’re still head over heels for her and waiting for her,” I yelled at him in anger as I couldn't contain my emotions any longer.

“You should get your facts right. You chose to enter this relationship with me when you obviously knew that Mary and I were engaged and I don't remember breaking off the engagement. When Mary left, I told you I was lonely and looking for a companion, not a life partner, so you should have expected this from the beginning,” he snapped at me, as he continued uttering gibberish.

I thought we had more than this, but I was just a thing, just an object to use and dump at his will. I knew he was a casonava that played with women's feeling but I really had no idea that I would also be played by him. I thought I changed him.

I stood up from my seat as I paced around trying to grab hold of the situation right here. With the way he’s acting up, I was darn sure that Mary’s already back. A thought to break the news of my pregnancy crept in that seemed to be the only way to hold him down, but I really didn't want to ruin my sister's happiness all because of this jerk right here. In anger, I picked up my glass of wine and splashed the wine on his face.

“What the heck, are you crazy?”

“I should be the one asking you that question, you son of a bitch!”

“Mark my word, you will regret this.” I spat at him in anger as I picked up my bag and walked out of the restaurant.

Tears streamed down my face as I stormed out of the restaurant. I knew everything was going too perfectly since morning, which was already a bad omen. I dragged myself to my car as I definitely knew that moving on would be an uphill battle. I loved him, I gave him my all, but I couldn't believe he just used and dumped me.

He never told me this was just a temporary relationship; he told me he and Mary had a big fight before she traveled and he wouldn't forgive her, and now he’s blaming me. I was just so foolish to fell for his trick.

As I walked to the garage, I bumped into someone, causing my bag fell down. My belongings scattered to the ground and I saw my pregnancy result on the ground. I bent down, picked it up and clung onto it as I cried my heart out.

Why me…….

“You came faster than I thought,” I said as I entered the Chinese restaurant room, seeing Jamez already sitting down.“I can’t believe you asked me to come here and still arrived late,” he replied.“I’m sorry, I had to pick someone up on my way.”“Hmm, I’ll be quick. Since I helped you last time with Desmond issues, so you should help me this time.”“Of course, we’re here to help each other. So what exactly do you need?”“I want to launder some money, but that fool has been keeping an eye on me.”“You mean your wife?”“Of course, who else? She’s always trying to act like the boss. Lately, she’s been nosy about everything happening in the company, keeping me in check. So I need to take everything I want before she tries anything stupid.”“I find that hard to believe. Don’t you both love each other?”“Love?” He scoffed. “If she hadn’t kept control of the company, I’d have divorced her a long time ago.”“But I thought she gave you all her property. Aren’t you in charge?”“That’s true, bu

I turned to Mary."What if it is?” She answered without a hinto of guilt. “ Do you think if I hadn’t lied, you would have married me? Do you think you would have even given me a chance?" She asked Cassius "Is that why you did all this? Because you wanted him, knowing I loved him?" My voice quivered."Can you please shut up? You liked him? Then why didn’t you tell him? Why does everyone always like you and not me?""What are you talking about? Mary, everyone loved you, even your parents.""Look at her, acting clueless. Some people were happy about the news, while others criticized me for being with Cassius after almost ruining his entire family.“Stop looking at this,” Cassius said as he shut the laptop.I heaved heavily, feeling frustrated and unsure of what to do.“Just give it a while; everything will sort out,” he said with a reassuring smile, and I nodded.I shouldn’t have let the kids go to school today. Who knows if those reporters went to their school? I picked up my phone to call their teacher, but David’s call came in.I bit my lip, feeling tense because I was sure it was about the news of Cassius acknowledging the kids.“Let me talk…”“No, I will,” I declined, standing up from my seat and picking up the call.“Hey, sweetie. Now, everything I had worked for all these years was gone. I lost everything; my family, my marriage, my honor, and my prestige. There wasn’t a single thing I could claim as a gain from this marriage. Cassius had used me as a tool until Emelia returned to his arms.I laughed like a crazy person, and my laughter echoed across the room. The nurses exchanged worried glances before one of them rushed out. A short while later, she returned with Linda.“Are you okay now?” Linda asked as she walked to my side.
