I inhaled a long relaxed breath as my head rested on Leo’s chest, with my eyes closed I gratefully basked under the hot sun. We’d been coming here every evening for the last week since we took Zach to his death, just to remind ourselves why we bestowed him such a vicious death. It was for this… for everything we were so close to never experiencing again. Of course, the night he died, it did plague me, Leo, Izzy and Dante at first, we had barely spoken a word to each other when we walked away. We felt a slight sense of guilt, almost convincing ourselves that we must be monsters to allow him to die such a painful death, but when me and Leo woke up the next morning safely in each other’s arms and no longer a black cloud over our heads, we actually felt relief. We felt safe, calm and ready to move on with our lives, leaving the pain of what happened behind us, including the ones who caused it.
