Jentra Kenanga adalah salah seorang anggota perajurit khusus (Sandi/Mata-mata) Medang dan berpangkat panglima. Ia memiliki tugas dan misi khusus untuk mengawasi pergerakan Wangsa Sanjaya yang dianggap sebagai pemberontak oleh Maharaja Rakai Garung. Namun disamping itu, ia juga mengemban misi rahasia dari Mahamentri I Halu atau keluarga raja yang berasal dari wangsa Syailendra untuk menemukan mustika yang terletak di Puncak Udarati(Gunung Arjuna saat ini). Mustika ini konon memiliki kesaktian di dalam mengendalikan Chakramandala atau penguasaan atas semesta. Di dalam upayanya mencari mustika itu, Jentra yang ditemani Rukma (anak yang diselamatkannya saat banjir bandang) tidak hanya harus bertempur dengan para Raja yang menginginkan mustika itu. Ia juga dipertemukan kembali dengan Candrakanti, gadis yang pernah sangat dicintainya namun karena dendam yang mendalam atas kematian keluarganya, Jentra berusaha melupakan gadis itu. Namun ternyata ia tidak bisa menghapus gadis itu dari setiap perjalanan hidupnya yang rumit. Perseteruan untuk memperebutkan mustika itu juga menempatkan dirinya dan Candrakanti di dalam posisi yang saling bermusuhan, karena Candrakanti mendapatkan tugas khusus dari Maharaja sendiri.
