Witness Katherine's rise in the uplifting novel "Her Revenge Contract."
The plot in "Her Revenge Contract" concerns Katherine's feud with her brother, Beta John, who wants to oust her with the aid of other pack and family members. The main reason behind this polemic is that Katherine is human and, thus, presumably not fitting to be the pack leader. The main instigator in the "rebellion" is Katherine's aunt in tandem with her uncle.
Katherine was firm in her hesitation to comply with the requests - to wit, to relinquish control of the pack and her father's businesses (under King Group) - so her aunt sought permission from the Elders and the council to put her through various "tests" or "ordeals" in order to ascertain whether she was suitable for the role.
Since her inner wolf had never manifested, everyone thought she was just human, so it was easy for them to deduce that she wouldn't endure the tests. To everyone's surprise, she was stronger than initially thought. In light of this, her aunt pushed her off a cliff. Her pack thought her dead, but she was actually rescued by Alpha Xavier. who immediately felt very attracted to her, even though his wolf wasn't able to connect with hers.
Since that incident, she has taken refuge in Xavier's pack, where she begins to concoct her revenge plans, but also where her romantic relationship with Xavier starts gestating. He eventually asks her to be his Luna, a proposal that she rejects initially because all she can think of is to get vengeance.
Katherine is a young woman born into a very important family within one of the strongest Northern packs. After her father's death, she was assigned as the leader, but there were a couple of problems.
The first problem had to do with her wolf-less state, as she had been unable to shift even after reaching the end of her teenage phase. The second problem was that she had to contend with Beta John, her uncle, who was favored by an important portion of both pack and family.
Physically, she's a knockout, with intense green eyes and lush auburn hair adorning her sweet face. More importantly, she's a very strong and resilient woman with a firm sense of duty. This personality allowed her to undergo the most painful torture practices described in the first chapter of this novel.
Alpha Xavier is, technically speaking, Katherine's competitor, but he's also her mate and protector. His commitment to his pack precedes him, but he tends to restrain himself when it comes to helping outsiders unless the cause is noble enough. When Xavier finds out about Katherine's ulterior motivations behind her revenge plan, he shows a bit more willingness to help her (though still under a very profitable contract, all things considered).
Just like Katherine, Xavier is quite the looker, with one special highlight being his seductive gaze and dark, blue eyes.
The novel starts with a blast! In this opening chapter, we're informed of the events preceding Katherine's attempted murder, as well as the motivations behind the grudge between her and her relatives. She had endured so much torture that she had trouble lifting her head, and she had to block the pain by imagining herself far away, in the company of her now-dead parents. At last, she was thrown down the ravine
Elder Elsa was reciting an old prophecy to Katherine that seemed to foretell her birth and how she would free her people. Katherine brushed off these allegations and rolled her eyes. Meanwhile, Xavier was beside her, apparently ready to steal a kiss from her, but Kate immediately put the brakes on his attempts, emphasizing that she was not ready yet.
Kate thought at that moment that he would shift because he started gazing at the sky, but his eyes soon returned to normal. He then took her by the hand and walked her towards his vehicle. Later on, she overheard a conversation between John and Aunt Rose, in which the latter suggested that Kate should disappear. She was also disheartened because Julia, who used to be on her side, was instructed to keep a close eye on her.
First, Kate was upset because the dress she was going to use for her upcoming party was ruined "accidentally." When she got home, she received an even more unpleasant surprise. As it turns out, her aunt had given away the dress that she inherited from her mother (which she could have worn in lieu of the other one). Unsurprisingly, this filled Kate with even more rage.
Nevertheless, the most impactful news came from her stylist's mouth. He was there at the behest of Alpha Xavier and used to be best friends with Kate's mom before she died. He hinted at the notion that Kate might have been adopted.
"Her Revenge Contract," as the title might give out, touches upon the subject of vengeance. However, this is not the only topic covered and, we would dare say, it's not even the most important one.
In fact, what appears to be a revenge plan is actually more of a "self-defense mechanism," since the avenger (namely, Katherine) is also silently being hunted. Moreover, it's not just self-preservation that's at play, but also that of an entire community. Regardless, at the end of the day, there's still a "love of self" involved, which could potentially hinder Katherine's opportunity to be happy.
Other themes explored in the novel include "second chances" and the idea that you may rise again, no matter how low you have fallen.
Not much is known about Judyyyy since she hasn't disclosed any info on her writer profile. Neither can we find details of other works under that name. Nonetheless, as far as we can tell, she showcases extensive knowledge of the English language and the usual tropes found in the Werewolf genre.
In "Her Revenge Contract," Judyyyy enables the characters to portray the events themselves without relying on a "know-it-all" narrator alien to the story who could give an impartial account. Rather, the characters imprint their own prejudices and thoughts into it.
As we mentioned earlier, Judyyyy seems well-versed in English and has a wide and exquisite vocabulary that allows her to convey everything that transpires in a more compelling and savory way.
As we near the end of this review, we must stress that "Her Revenge Contract" is not necessarily breaking boundaries in the Werewolf genre, yet makes very good use of the usual Werewolf tropes. What's more, the story is well executed and the characters have a profound arc while still maintaining a clear alignment.
In conclusion, "Her Revenge Contract" is definitely a book that you should add to your digital library!
