Brenda’s POV.The shrill beep of the oven timer pierced the air, signaling that the chickens were done. I quickly dropped the vegetables I was chopping and rushed to turn it off, my body heavy with exhaustion from juggling so many tasks at once. I was preparing dinner for the family in honor of my mother-in-law’s return from her business trip abroad, which also happened to coincide with her birthday. Brenda’s POV.The dining room was momentarily silent, my mother-in-law's face still contorted in anger at Desmond's words. Then she broke the silence, her voice nonchalant and cold. "Fine, you want her to go? Then she can."Desmond and I exchanged surprised looks. I knew that even though he stood up for me, he was not expecting his mother to give in that easily. I didn't need to be told twice. Brenda’s POV.Slowly, my eyes fluttered open, taking in my surroundings. I blinked repeatedly when the room didn't seem familiar, and I quickly sat up on the bed wondering how I got there. My head felt heavy as I tried to understand what I was doing in a hotel room, instead of my bedroom in my husband's house. On the next attempt, memories of the previous night came rushing back.
