CHAPTER ONE:

The city lights flashed by as a black Maserati drove past at full speed. Despite it being a really cold day, it was relatively hot and the streets looked too vibrant. Or so it seemed to Robert. Robert was hysterical. Despite the AC blasting in his car, Robert could feel sweat trickling down his spine. Goosebumps were visible on his skin as he gripped the steering wheel tightly. Hitting on the accelerator with his foot, he increased his speed and sped past red lights. “I’ll deal with that later”, he thought. There were pressing issues to address, including the one outlined on the printed paper sitting right next to him on the passenger seat.———-“What does this mean?” Robert said, his tone well-controlled, as he sat across from his father at a desk. His father sat opposite him, his fingers crossed. He couldn’t over react, and he didn’t need to. He knew this was going to come either way. Hell, he had expected as much. But that didn’t diminish the shock he felt after reading the

CHAPTER TWO:

As Kayla walked up the stairs in the huge building where she was, she could feel her feet throbbing in her tight converse shoes. Kayla could vividly remember her burst of excitement when she got a call to deliver sixteen coffee cups to an office building. Feeling tired and sweaty all over, she couldn’t muster any more of that excitement. Finally, she located the floor where she was to deliver the orders, which was the thirteenth floor. She regretted not taking the elevators, which would have saved her the trouble of climbing the seemingly unending staircase. She sent a text to the customer to inform them of her arrival. As she waited, she sipped her own coffee, which gave her the energy boost she needed to start her day. The building she was in was a very modern, skyscraper with the words ‘MOORE GROUP PHARMACEUTICAL’ etched on its front. As she looked around, she found herself standing in a plush and sleek hallway with beige colored walls. A glass door with an ‘employee only si

CHAPTER THREE:

Kayla‘s eyes widened in shock, as she stared at her father, her mind struggling to grasp what he was saying. Her fathers words seemed like foreign language, as her brain tried to process what he said. “Dad, what are you talking about?” she said, her face fixed in a confused look. “Kiddo, listen,” her father said, his voice weak as he held her hands and struggled to find the words. His face was etched with a look of defeat, his eyes sunken and his skin pale. “You are my only source of happiness, Kayla. I am proud of the person you’ve become, more than anything in this world. Unfortunately, my clock is ticking fast.” he finished. “Please, Dad, don’t talk like that,” she said, her voice shaking as she tried to hold back tears. Kayla's father gently squeezed her fingers again before speaking, his voice barely above a whisper. “Kiddo, the doctor says I don’t have much time left, and I can feel it myself. The thought of leaving you alone is tearing me apart, Kayla. I’m ashamed of taki

CHAPTER FOUR:

The loud sound of Kayla’s voice and the door banging shut caught Theo's attention. He tried to push himself up, but Kayla rushed to his side and helped him. “Theo?” A man called out from the entrance. The man's scowl turned back into a look of concern. “Oh, Robert, come on in,” Theo called out weakly, a smile spread across his face. Robert took careful steps as he walked towards Theo and stood beside him, on the opposite side of Kayla. Theo reached out and gently grabbed Robert’s big, firm hands and squeezed. “Robert, this is my daughter, Kayla. I’ve told you about her. Kayla, this is Robert.” Theo said, introducing both of them. Robert felt a shiver run down his spine, as he stared at the despicable, rude woman he had encountered at the parking lot, her behaviour still fresh in his mind. “She is your daughter? The one I am supposed to marry?” He asked, his face twisted in disgust and slight anger. Theo looked confused, noticing the tension between Robert and Kayla. “Is ev

CHAPTER FIVE:

Robert checked his wrist watch, again for what felt like the millionth time. It was now twenty minutes past the agreed meeting time with Kayla, and he was furious. He felt his blood boil as he sat impatiently, staring at the unanswered text he had sent her nine minutes ago. Robert Moore had a strong dislike for poor time management and disregard for his time. The woman he made a deal with had behaviours that drove him crazy. His foot tapped constantly on the well-polished wooden floor in his large office. In front of Robert was a large office table, cluttered with papers. His table was the only cluttered area in the otherwise immaculate office. The expensive chairs, tables and shelves around him were perfectly positioned, with not a speck of dust in sight. As Robert's fingers hovered over his keyboard, his irritation and anger reached a boiling point. Perhaps, he would have to reconsider his options. Suddenly, a light knock sounded, and he raised his head to stare at his g
