CHAPTER 11

After a long night of fake smiles and mingling with the guests at the banquet hall, the party was finally over, and Jasmine and Asher made their way home in his Cadillac Escalade. Jasmine subconsciously fiddled with the ring on her finger as she gazed outside the window. Her thoughts swirled with everything that had happened that evening, especially Jason and Charlotte’s threats, and she sighed quietly, trying to suppress the unease brewing within her. Asher noticed her fidgeting from his peripheral vision.“Penny for your thoughts?” He cocked a brow, his gaze still focused on the road ahead of him. Jasmine blinked and turned to look at him. The little light emanating from the dashboard cast a subtle glow on his stunning side profile and she found herself almost entranced by it. But she caught herself and quickly looked away. “It’s just,” she sighed again as she replied, and leaned her head back against the headrest. “I can’t help but wonder what further tricks Jason and Charlot

CHAPTER 12

Jasmine’s fingers tightened around Asher’s shirt at his suggestion, and her tongue subconsciously flicked out to wet her bottom lip. Asher’s eyes followed the small action and a low rumble emanated from his throat as he pulled her closer. “You’re making it so hard to resist throwing you on my bed and having you screaming under me,” he groaned and dipped his head towards the curve of her neck. Jasmine’s heart raced, but before his lips could graze her skin, she firmed her palms on his chest and pushed him back as much as she could. “Mr. Wayne—” “Call me Asher,” he interrupted her with a low, coaxing voice. “We’re married now, so drop the formalities.” “A-Asher,” Jasmine gulped shakily, his name tasting foreign on her tongue. “We have a rule to keep, remember?” Asher tilted his head and furrowed his brows in feigned confusion. “And what rule is that?” Jasmine rolled her eyes and shook her head as she added more pressure against his chest to prevent him from coming closer.

CHAPTER 13

Jasmine spun around in startlement, and as she tried hiding the picture frame behind her, it slipped from her hand. The sound of shattering glass made her flinch and her eyes widened as she turned to see the shattered pieces of the picture frame on the floor. A gasp escaped her lips and beads of sweat began to form on her forehead as she instantly crouched down and began to pick up the broken pieces. Asher’s brows drew into a deep V as he watched Jasmine fiddle with the glass shards. “Jasmine,” he drawled as he took cautious steps towards her. “What did you break?” Jasmine’s heart pounded in her chest as she scrambled for a reply. But in her distracted state, she grazed her finger against the sharp edge of a broken frame piece. “Ouch,” she hissed in pain as she instinctively jerked her hand back, and inspected the finger that had began to drip blood onto the bodice of her white lace dress. Asher was by her side in a flash, and he gripped her arm gently, pulling her up to her f

CHAPTER 14

Jasmine’s forehead remained puckered in confusion as she waited for Asher to elaborate on the revelation he had just shared. And Asher rubbed a hand down his face before he picked up from where he left off. “Diana had been my girlfriend since high school. And the picture in that frame was one of us in college.” Jasmine tilted her head as she listened intently to him. She could sense the hurt in his voice, and it tugged at her heart strings. “Things between us were good and I was set to marry her after I graduated from business school,” he paused to get ahold of his emotions that were threatening to slip. He had already been vulnerable enough with Jasmine, and didn’t want to show any more. “But then,” he finally continued after getting his emotions in check. “I got into an accident just before I could inherit my father’s company.” “Someone saved me on the night of the accident. At first, I thought it was Diana, but,” his lips twisted into a bitter smile. “Her cold attitude

CHAPTER 15

Jasmine instinctively closed her eyes, and a soft sigh left her lips as Asher’s warm lips caressed hers. The kiss was gentle and feathery, as though Asher was just testing the waters, yet it ignited something deep within her gut. Unsure of what to do with her hands, they rested limply at her sides, while Asher’s grip on her waist tightened as he pulled her closer. Just as he tilted his head to deepen the kiss, Jasmine felt like a bucket of ice water was poured on her, and her eyes flew open as she snapped back to reality. She instantly pulled away from the kiss, and her heart raced a million miles per second as she stared at Asher with wide, bewildered eyes. “W-why did you do that, Asher? You just crossed the line!” Asher slowly licked his lips as though savoring the lingering taste of Jasmine’s lips, and he glanced at her through hooded eyes. “I couldn’t help myself,” he shrugged, and casually slipped his hands into the pockets of his joggers. Asher’s reply made all the he

CHAPTER 16

“Really?” Jasmine squealed at the news, and broke into a brief celebratory dance. “That's amazing! Thank you so much!” “That’s not all,” the lady continued, interrupting Jasmine’s celebration. “I apologize for the short notice, but can you be at the company in the next thirty minutes? The boss has decided to personally interview you, and it’s scheduled for 10am.” Jasmine froze at the request, and all the excitement drained from her face. She momentarily removed her phone from her ear to glance at the time on the screen. It read 9:25 am, and her heart sank to her stomach. Thirty minutes? How on earth was she supposed to be at the company at that time, when she was yet to get ready. “Hello? Are you still there?” The lady’s voice came in from the receiver, making Jasmine remember she was still on a call. “Yes…I’m here,” Jasmine pressed the phone back to her ear with a sigh, and she pinched the bridge of her nostrils as she processed the situation. “So…can you make it in time?”

CHAPTER 17

Jasmine trembled with anger, and her fingers twitched with the urge to claw the smirk off Charlotte’s face, but she held herself back. The little scene had already attracted the attention of some passersby, and reacting harshly would only make things worse. She clenched her fists by her sides, and took one deep exhale to extinguish her anger. Then, not wanting to give Charlotte any more satisfaction, she ignored her and bent to pick up her phone which had fallen. Just as she reached for it, the phone dinged. Before she could grab it, Charlotte kicked the phone aside with her heels, then crouched down to pick it up instead. “I will not be ignored,” she spat as she rose to her feet and waved the phone tauntingly in front of Jasmine’s face. “You need to replace my cup of coffee first and apologize for bumping into me. Otherwise, you’re not getting this back.” Jasmine tightened her jaw as she felt her anger rising to the surface again. “I don’t have time for this, Charlotte. Gi

CHAPTER 18

Jasmine didn’t stop walking until she reached a quiet alleyway that was considerably far away from the coffee shop. Her vision blurred with fresh tears as her emotions came crashing down like a torrent. Her opportunity to secure a job with Ashscape designs was now completely ruined. All because of someone who she had once regarded as a sister. The world around her suddenly faded away, and her chest began to constrict painfully. Clutching her chest, Jasmine propped one hand on the wall of the alley to support herself. Then slowly, she took in calculated deep breaths to avoid slipping into a panic attack. After a few seconds of rhythmic inhales, her breathing slowly returned to normal, and she leaned her head against the wall with closed eyes. “Are you really going to give up so easily?” A voice nudged at the back of her head. “You’ve put so much hard work into getting this interview. Don’t back down now. If you do, you’ll be letting Charlotte win.” The voice served as a pro

CHAPTER 19

Asher walked out of the elevator and was scrolling through his phone when a voice caught his attention. He paused midway, and looking up from the phone, he was greeted with a sight that made his blood sizzle his veins. In the middle of the reception area, a security guard was forcefully gripping Jasmine’s arm, while she struggled to pull away.“Jasmine?” he called out, his voice a mixture of surprise and confusion. Jasmine stopped struggling with the security guard and her head whipped around to Asher’s direction. She wiped her teary eyes, and took in his suit-clad frame. “Asher?” She blurted, confusion and curiosity scattering across her features as she wondered why he was there.Asher’s eyes zeroed in on the security guard’s hand on Jasmine’s arm, and they darkened.“What’s going on here?” He demanded in a voice that made the temperature in the room drop a few degrees. The receptionist quickly straightened up on seeing Asher, and rising from her seat, she rushed towards him.“Mr.

CHAPTER 20

The elevator slid open again a few minutes later, and Asher ushered Jasmine out of it. Jasmine slowed down her steps as she took a moment to admire the entire floor. She wasn’t sure what she was expecting, but the entire place was empty and quiet. Asher’s voice broke through her thoughts. “This floor is strictly mine,” he casually explained before leading her to the transparent glass double doors of his office. Jasmine took in the sight of the doors, and her eyes widened. Not only were they made of glass, but the walls were too. As a matter of fact, Asher’s entire office was visible from outside. Her lips parted open, but no words came out as she admired the marveling beauty of the place. Asher chuckled when he noticed her fascinated expression. “You’d have to get used to seeing things like this. This is an architectural firm, so we always have to be at the top of our game, don't we?” Jasmine nodded absentmindedly, her gaze never swaying from the glass walls as though tryin
