CHAPTER TEN

CHAPTER TENCATHERINE'S POV I have been rolling on my king-sized bed since, thinking of what happened back there in the garden, making me feel embarrassed all over again. "Gosh" I yelled against the pillow, that I had initially buried my face in, I hated the fact that he could do that to me and make me feel like a fool all over again. I faced the ceiling, wondering if I still had feelings for Burke. "No, I hate him," I said aloud, trying to convince myself, even if it was not convincing enough. "Would I have kissed him and cheated on Jaxon?" I asked myself, guilt filled my eyes, and I felt like a bad person for attempting to cheat on Jaxon. Suddenly I heard a knock on the door, distracting me from my thoughts, I stood up from my bed to get the door. I opened the door only to see Burke and Harley, standing and holding hands passionately. "I thought he said he didn't like her," I said to myself in a low tone, which could be audible to only me, or so I thought. They kept

CHAPTER ELEVEN

CHAPTER ELEVEN CATHERINE'S POV Burke's mansion had already gone peaceful, as I could hardly hear the cries of people and the sounds of swords hitting against each other. I barely knew what transpired outside because I was locked in my room and Burke would not allow me out of his sight, because of how worried he would get. Ava was in my bathroom, trying to calm herself down, she hated the sight of blood and Burke was bleeding all over. I had to treat Burke's injury, although he had refused to say anything about the attack from Hoang, our neighboring pack. Burke was sitting on a chair and I stood opposite him, cleaning and nurturing his injury. Hoang and the crescent pack had always been like a pack with two rulers. The possibility they would turn against each other someday was very slim. "What is wrong Burke? If you don't tell me, I will be forced to stop treating your injury, you understand?" I threatened him as I sewed his injury and he continuously flinched in pain.

CHAPTER TWELVE

CHAPTER TWELVECATHERINE'S POV Days have turned into weeks, and I'm still in the pack finding the cure for Ethan's illness. Burke and I had hardly spoken after he poured his heart into me a few days back. I sat on my bed, with a book that helps in curing the affliction in my hands, and three of those kinds of books laid on the bed. I had already tried all the cures in the book but nothing seemed to help, the books were all fake. Burke had sent words to my kids, telling them I was alright, and they sent letters to me saying how they missed me and I missed them too, my only hope is for Jaxon to take good care of them as I was away. I have already tried over fifteen cures for Ethan's illness to no avail, Harley made matters worse as she was always all over my business for no reason. However, she had cooled down because Burke and I had not been in a full conversation as we had been busy. Suddenly I heard a knock on the door, before I could answer it, the door swung open reveal

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

CHAPTER THIRTEENCATHERINE'S POV. "Of course, it will be nice to be your friend," I replied to her kind gesture. I took the blue dress from her and placed it on my bed. Harley stood there smiling at me, and the smile appeared genuine, making me doubt my sanity, probably I was hallucinating. "Thank you, I'll leave you to dress up, the council members are waiting," she said, getting up from the chair she had been sitting on. "And be careful, the council members are pompous men, they hate it when a woman's in charge," she whispered to me, ending her sentence with a light chuckle. I could not find my voice to speak, so I left her silent. Soon Harley was out of my room, leaving me alone and in shock. "I need some air," I said to myself, walking to the windows and opening them, inhaling the fresh breeze made me forget how strange my morning had been. I need to prepare so I can meet the councilmen, and get it over with. I hate the fact that Burke has some power over me, it mak

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

CHAPTER FOURTEENCATHERINE'S POV I opened my eyes and found myself lying in a bed that wasn't mine, with my head pounding. I tried sitting up, but the pain in my head made me glued to the bed. "My head," I said out loud, holding my head with my hands. "You are awake, you gave everybody a heart attack, you know right?" I heard Burke's voice, I had not realized anyone was in the room. Burke was standing in front of his bed, still wearing his suit except that the suit jacket was off and the hand of the shirt was drawn up to his elbow. He was holding a cup filled with wine. He had worry written all over his face making me wonder what had happened because my memory was hazy. "How are you feeling?" Burke asked, coming to sit at the edge of the bed."My head hurts badly" I replied to his question and he immediately handed over some drugs so I could take them, I took them from his hands but I didn't swallow them. I'm skeptical about taking just any kind of drugs, probably becau

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

CHAPTER FIFTEENCATHERINE'S POV I stayed on the bed for hours after Ethan had left the room, trying to make myself believe that it wasn't Harley who planted the poison on my dress because she sounded genuine. "My life is at stake here," I said aloud. Soon the door to Burke's room opened without permission and Harley rushed in, carrying a tray of fruits. "I heard what happened and I think that maid sucks," she said, placing the tray of fruits on the table, and rushing towards the bedside to sit next to me. It was then I realized she was still as surprised as I was, she had not planted the poison there, rather it was the maid who did it. "I hate the fact that she is from my pack, making me lose some of that trust I have gained from Burke. I inhaled deeply before stretching my hand, to get from apples she brought, I was starving already. "Burke can be difficult sometimes but one thing is certain, he will come around" I replied and the smile on her face increased, making her l

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

CHAPTER FIFTEENBURKE'S POV I lay on my bed, tossing uncontrollably on it, my mind still on the fact that I would have lost Catherine a few days back. Getting Catherine back to the pack was not part of my intention, I was happy when she left and hated what I put her through. Every day, I hated myself for giving her such terrible heartbreak, although it wasn't my intention. I remembered my coronation day like it was yesterday, not because it was my coronation but because that was the last time I had seen Catherine, and I avoided her teary eyes. "What are you thinking of boy," My father asked, sitting on the edge of my bed, I had not realized when he entered the room, because I was lost in thoughts. "Knock Ethan, you need to Knock", I said, without any emotion, I was never grown to call my father by his first name, we were once close, but it changed on my coronation day. "I'm still your father Burke," his husky voice came with a sharp pain, he hated that I always addressed

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

CHAPTER SEVENTEENBURKE'S POV I did not know whether to be excited at the news of Catherine finding a cure or whether I should be sad about it. Catherine coming back to the pack was never my intention but regardless, I have always looked forward to forming a bond with her even if we don't end up together because she is with another man. My manner of approach to her might be considered rude but the truth is that I don't know how to tell her that we should let bygones be bygones, So I always end up being rude to her, making her hate me more. "Did you hear me, Burke, this might be the cure for Ethan, I have a strong feeling it would work, I want to get back to my kids," she said, making me feel selfish. To be fair, I am selfish and won't apologize for that, this was the only way to feel Catherine's presence again. Although I also wanted to see her kids as well, I feel there would be a strong connection between us, I don't know the reason. I looked at Catherine and saw how sad h

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

CHAPTER NINETEENBURKE'S POV Everything felt like a shock, and I could not believe my ears, "Is my father truly dead?" I asked myself, while Ava's cries continued and wouldn't end anytime soon. "Is he dead?" I asked, trying to appear brave even though, deep down my heart was tearing itself to shreds, my voice sounded husky, and I'm sure Catherine felt I wasn't bothered about my father dying. "What? No, I mean he isn't breathing on his own, he is still using a support machine and he is unconscious, so we will have to wait for him to wake up," she replied and Ava's cries reduced. I felt my rising heartbeat begin to go back to its normal pace, although I did not show any emotions and just went into my father's room to see him. He was on life support and his injury wasn't healed, that is unlike a wolf, our injuries always heal but because my father has the Affliction, his inner wolf cannot help in healing his injury. I looked at my father from head to toe as he lay on his be

CHAPTER NINETEEN

CHAPTER NINETEENCATHERINE'S POV I felt like the worst when Harley entered the garden and found Burke and I almost kissing. Her eyes were filled with sadness, pain, and betrayal. Harley had refused to speak to me since yesterday when it happened, and I won't blame her though, she felt betrayed and I betrayed her. Harley asked me if I was in love with Burke and I said I wasn't, seeing that we almost kissed made her lose all trust in me. I sat on the dining table, waiting patiently for Harley who had gone to get something. Ava was angry with me as well but that was the least of my problems. Besides that, Burke and I had not spoken about what happened yesterday and I prefer it stays that way, because I don't have anything to say to him at the moment, and would like us to pretend we did not notice the chemistry between us, yesterday. Suddenly the door opened and luckily for me, it was Harley who walked in adorned with a beautiful long dress, and her hair styled in a queen-like m
