Chapter 51

FERRIS' POVI paced back and forth in my study, letting my thoughts get the best of me. I couldn't get her out of my head—Elise. I couldn't stop thinking about that night. Ever since then, I've been thinking about what could have gone wrong for her to come see me by that time of the night. I had, a need to protect her, to keep her safe from the dangers in Jackson's house. I could still see the sadness and blankness in her eyes, the way she stared into space like she was having an out of body experience. She looked so sad... So broken. Damn it, I should’ve asked her more. I should have pressed her until she told me what was really going on. Maybe with that, I would have been able to help her. My fists clenched at my sides I knew Jackson well enough to be certain that his home was not safe for Elise. And yet, she lived there, trapped in a situation that I was slowly realizing might be worse than I initially thought. I had tried to push these feelings down, tried to convince myself

Chapter 52

FERRIS' POVBy the time I got to the place I assumed Elise was, the storm was in full swing. The rain was heavy and so was the wind. On my way here, I shifted into my Lucan form. The ground was slick beneath my paws, making every step slippery, but I refused to slow down. Elise was out here somewhere, and I wasn’t going to let anything stand in my way.I had shifted into my Lycan form as soon as I left Jackson’s house, hoping that my heightened senses would make it easier to track her. But the storm was making it nearly impossible. Her scent was faint, mingling with the wet earth and the rain. The rain was washing away any traces she might have left behind. I couldn't navigate the place quite well. “Damn it, Elise, where are you?” I growled to myself. This was Gina's fault. What the hell was her problem? Why couldn't she send one of the guards to get the flower? Why did it have to be Elise? The image of Elise that night night, the way she looked so broken and lost, haunted me. She

Chapter 53

JACKSON'S POV I stared outside the window as I was driven back to the palace. My inspection of the northern borders had taken longer than expected, and I was more than a little tired. But the pack's safety came first, always. As I approached the entrance of the palace, the guards bowed in respect and so did the other workers. I made my way to the boardroom and saw the lights still on. Good. Jason and Kevin, my head guard were already waiting. There were a few things we needed to discuss, and it was better to get them out of the way tonight than let them wait till morning.I pushed open the door and both men looked up from the papers scattered across the table. Jason leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples like he had a headache. Kevin, sat with his arms crossed, his usual stern expression in place. He never really let down his guard, not even in casual moments."Alpha," they greeted in unison, standing and bowing their heads as I entered."Sit," I said, waving them back down a

Chapter 54

ELISE'S POVI ran. I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, but no matter how far I went, the darkness chased me, getting closer with every step. The forest around me was dark and the trees twisted in front, making it hard to run fast. My lungs burned with each breath and my heart pounded in my chest yet the shadows behind me only grew darkerI didn’t know what I was running from, only that if I stopped, it would grab me. The ground beneath me was uneven, roots and stones tripping me up, but I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t—Suddenly, the ground gave way, and I was falling down a huge hole. A silent scream tore out of my mouth. My arms flailed, grasping at nothing. My body felt weightless and helpless. I kept falling and falling, the darkness swallowing me whole. There was no end. My screams echoed back at me, distorted and twisted. And then, just as suddenly as it began, I hit the ground with a thud. The impact knocked the wind out of me, filling my body with pain, but it wasn’t the pain

Chapter 55

JACKSON'S POVI was deep into the evening’s paperwork. My desk was littered with reports and updates. Even with all the work I had on my table, I couldn't focus. My mind kept drifting to Elise and Ferris. What the hell were they doing in that cave? Ferris seemed so protective of her. It took a lot to get Elise from his grip and bring her back to the pack. What's going on between them? The thought of them together... It... It... I couldn't bear it. Suddenly, the door to my office flew open with a crash. The papers fluttered from the sudden breeze of the door opening. I looked up, instantly irritated, ready to snap at whoever dared to enter without knocking. But it wasn’t just anyone. Ferris stood there. His presence nearly filled the room as he stepped in. The rage in his body was unmistakable. The muscles in his broad shoulders ripppled as if he were barely containing a beast within.I stood up and bowed my head "To what do I owe the honor, your Majesty?" “What the hell do you thi

Chapter 56

JACKSON'S POVI could feel the anger tightening my muscles as I made my way to Gina’s quarters. Elise’s words from earlier echoed in my mind. She had insisted that Gina knew more than she was letting on, and every instinct in my body told me that Elise was right.I clenched my fists as I approached the door. I needed answers. I needed the truth. I pushed the door open, not bothering to knock. Why would I? Gina was standing by the window, her back to me, gazing out as if she hadn’t heard me come in. Her posture was relaxed. “Gina,” I said, trying to keep my anger in check. She turned slowly, her face lighting up in a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “HI honey. You're back,” she greeted “What brings you here? Do we have plans now?”I didn’t have the patience for her games today. “I spoke with Elise,” I began, watching her face carefully for any reaction. “She said you’ve been keeping things from me.”Gina’s smile faltered, but she recovered quickly. Her expression turned into on

Chapter 57

FERRIS' POVI stood on the balcony of my room and stared down at the pack. There was a full moon in the sky tonight but it didn't matter how beautiful the sky was, my mind wasn't focused. My phone was pressed to my ear as I spoke to Alexandra. "Your highness, you need to come back." Alexandra said. "Things are getting out of hand. The council is growing restless, and we’ve had a few incidents with rogue packs near the borders."I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath to calm myself. I knew my pack needed me more than anything. Still, I couldn't... I couldn't leave. Elise needed me as well. Leaving without making things right didn't sit well with me. I had no idea why this woman meant so much to me, why she consumed my every thought. "I’m aware, Alexandra. I’ll be back soon.""Soon?" she spoke, her voice rising slightly. "You’ve been saying that for days. What’s keeping you there? It’s not like you have any reason to stay."That was the moment I snapped."No reason?" My voice came ou

Chapter 58

JACKSON'S POVI woke up to the sound of breaking glass. Instantly, I knew something was wrong. The noise was loud—too loud to be anything but trouble. My heart pounded in my chest and the adrenaline kicked in before I was fully conscious. I threw the blankets off and got up from bed, hastily pulling on some clothes. As I got dressed, I wondered what the cause of the commotion was. Before I could even finish lacing my boots, there was a knock on the door. I opened it to see Kevin already dressed in his battle gear. “Alpha, we’re under attack,” he said. “What’s going on?” I demanded, shrugging into my jacket and grabbing the gun that hung by the door. “Rogues, Alpha,” Kevin replied. “They came out of nowhere, breached the southern border. Jason’s with the guards, organizing our defenses.”I cursed under my breath. Rogues. Of course. The pack had been too quiet, too peaceful for too long. I should’ve known something was coming. Without another word, I followed Kevin out into the corr

Chapter 59

JACKSON'S POVThe smell of blood still lingered in the air as I pushed myself forward. For a while, I stood in the center of the battlefield, breathing heavily. My chest heaved up and down as I took in the damage around me. It pained me that I had lost a lot of my men. My pack had fought greatly, but the cost had been high. Too high. And it was all my fault. I never should have been merciful to those rogues. I thought about Vincent and how he had been one of my trusted men once. His death had been a turning point, making the tide of the battle shift in our favour but it hadn’t brought me the satisfaction I thought it would. Instead, I felt… empty. He was once my friend. That was probably the reason I felt this way.I clenched my fists, forcing myself to push those thoughts aside. There was no time for reflection, not now. My men were still fighting, still bleeding. I needed to be strong for them. “Alpha!” Kevin called, jogging over to me with blood smeared across his face “The rogue

Chapter 60

JACKSON'S POVThe world around me blurred as I sprinted through the corridors of the pack hospital. The sound of my footsteps echoed down the hall as I walked down in anger. I couldn't believe it. Elise was missing. The thought of this disturbed me deeply. How could this happen? How could I let this happen? Who the fuck took her away? I burst through the door to Gina's room without knocking. In that moment, the adrenaline pumped faster in my veins and I knew I wasn't thinking straight. Gina was sitting upright in her bed. She looked sick. Her skin was still pale and her hair was a bit disheveled but even at that, I wasn't bothered. I couldn't care less. I needed answers and I was going to get them. "Where is she, Gina?" I demanded "Where is Elise?"Gina blinked at me as her lips parted in a small gasp. She looked like she was genuinely taken aback by my outburst."Well, hello to you too" she said "What's going on?" "Don't fucking play games with me! Where is she? I asked you a qu
