Chapter 1

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCKI breathed heavily, aware of the manic rising and falling of my chest as I waited for the door to open. My eyes shifted to look behind me from time to time to ensure that I wasn't being followed, but who cared about that when our lives were being ruined by a psychopathic man that I was, unfortunately, related to."Open up!" I yelled, the pounding of the door in sync with the anger in my heart.I heard a click behind the door which made me pace myself for what was to come. As the door opened and a familiar pair of brown eyes stared at me with surprise. I attacked him straight away but he easily overpowered me and pinned me against the wall."Mason? What are you doing here?!"I scoffed and forcefully pushed him off of me so I could fix the collars of my shirt."What am I doing here? Pa, you must be joking!"He sighed in return and hurried to close the door before turning back to me. "You bastard, why the hell did you have to come here?" He grabbed the sleeves of my sh

Chapter 2

The trailer that had hit us lingered for a few more minutes and I chanted, 'Help us' in my head for as long as I knew I could stay awake. But help never came.My last hope was dashed when the trailer retreated and drove past us on the road. I traced the brown trailer with my eyes until it was completely out of view. That was when I realized what the world was about. Cold and distrustful. The man in the trailer didn't even make an attempt to help. He just treated it like we didn't exist. After the trailer zoomed off, my eyes started to tingle due to the blood that was trickling over my eyelids.I looked at my father and with shaky hands, I reached for him. When my right hand finally stopped on his neck, I froze, taken aback by how his movements were… stale. Almost non-existent."Pa," my hands moved over his chest and stopped on his left wrist. As I squeezed it, my stomach dropped. I didn't need a doctor to tell me what had happened, being a med student myself, one of the basic things t

Chapter 3

I stared at the stormy gaze of the woman who had her foot in my blood-soaked shirt. She had a disposition unlike one I'd ever seen before. Her eyes were malicious, vengeful, and wicked. But there was still a symptom of meekness beneath all that mask and that oddly attracted me to her even though I was in this state.I still didn't know who she was, but the way she was looking at me told me the impression she had of me."Ma'am—"She scoffed at my attempt to make a conversation with her and turned to glance at the wrecked car that held my father's body."You killed him, didn't you?" She said, withdrawing her foot from my chest."What?" I turned my neck to look at my father's unmoving figure in the crashed car. "You killed your own father."I didn't know how to respond to her. After all, she had a point. If I hadn't tried to stop my father from driving, we wouldn't have gotten into this accident and he wouldn't have died. But at this moment, it mattered less to me because I worried for

Chapter 4

It was a Thursday, two weeks after the 'accident'. My father had been laid to rest and I had mourned him even though I held some grudges towards him."Mason, what are you thinking about? You must not seem absent-minded when I introduce you to my family, and embarrass me. That is one thing I won't accept." "Yes miss," I said without hesitation.I was walking right by the side of Racheal, the woman that saved me, as well as my future 'wife' To fulfill the contract after begging her to save me, I had to do this. Anyway, this is one of them, and I had to convince myself that it wasn't that big of a deal. I was wearing a fancy suit and expensive, polished shoes that seemed too heavy for my feet to carry. But I did not have a stance to speak. I choosed this. And it was necessary if I wanted to seem worthy of her."Here," she pushed her expensive purse into my chest and I was quick to grab it before it fell."Carry it," She said as she strutted over the entrance of the wide-angle mansion

Chapter 5

"Dad!" Racheal ran to the man that had just entered the room, and I couldn't help but feel like I had just run into a wall I couldn't escape from. This man… with dark brown eyes.I'd seen him before.Very recently. Before I went to find my father, I'd bumped into this man. And I still remembered the words he had spoken to me very vividly."I'll put a chance in front of you. It's up to you if you can take it."Shivers ran down my spine as I realized. This could be a part of his plan."I heard from the Butler downstairs. He said you've gotten yourself a man." He turned his gaze to me and gestured with his hand, a smile seeping from the corner of his lips. "Is this him?"I couldn't tear my gaze from his even though I wanted to. There was just something about him that was eerie, and my guts were screaming at me to get away from him and I didn't know the reason. Then reasons formed in my mind for me to hate him. Such as if he was the one that caused the 'accident' that day. Before I knew i
