...Calyssa POV...My name is Calyssa Raine Maddox, and I am to be the next Alpha of the Crimson Tide pack—one of the four original packs. My family has always held the Alpha role, as my ancestors were among the first alphas. Due to our long history, Crimson Tide has become one of America's largest packs. Though, such an achievement doesn't come without trials. While we may be one of the largest packs, we are not the strongest.Crimson Tide has been at war with the Nightshade Pack for the past five years. The Nightshade pack is a relatively new pack. However, they continually manage to create alliances with other packs in the area, which is why this war has gone on for so long. 2. Torn Hearts

...Three Months Ago......Alpha Cameron POV...Five years. This war lasted five years. I close my eyes, trying not to think about the destruction brought to my pack. The number of deaths we incurred nearly broke me. Whenever a member is killed, I can feel their pack link break. Each link feels like a small heart attack. Knowing that nothing can be done to make you feel complete again. 12,569. The total number of lives taken over the past five years. Nearly seven deaths a day for the past five years. That's nearly the equivalent of two families a day. While our pack may be large, with over one hundred thousand members, I can't help but feel the pain of all those we lost. In all my years as Alpha, I've never heard of so much bloodshed. We have been lucky to avoid all wars for the past thousand years, which is probably why this one hurt so badly. How

3. Hard Decisions

...Two Weeks Ago...Time was crunching. The pack had been on the market for over two months now, and we had yet to hear of a bid. I was growing anxious. I knew this was a last-ditch effort. But as Zavian explained, we had no other options available to us. Even if we combined our pack with another, it would barely make a chip in our financial issues. The problem came down to our pack size, which is why most packs chose to keep their packs smaller. Having a large pack opened itself to more and much greater issues. Right now, it proved just how dire our situation was. Even if all the packs around us chipped in to help, we still wouldn't have enough money to survive. Our only hope was that someone would have enough money to buy our pack. Someone running through the halls caught my attention as I turned my gaze from my window to figure out the cause of the commotion coming from the hallway. My office door slammed open as both my betas rushed into my office, looking out of breath."What's
